Theses and Dissertations
The design and performance evaluation of in-duct, isokinetic samplers capable of testing flat sheet, nuclear-grade High Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) filters simultaneously with a radial filter testing system is discussed in this study. Evaluations within this study utilize challenge aerosols of varying particle diameters and masses such as hydrated alumina, Arizona test dust, and flame-generated acetylene soot. Accumulated mass and pressure drop for each in-duct sampler is correlated to the full-scale radial filter accumulated mass from initial to 10 in w. c. of loading. SEM imaging of samples at 25%, 50%, 75% and 100% loading verifies particle sizes with instrumentation …
A Comprehensive Study Of Phenolics And Peptides From Three Legume Varieties, Yan Zhang
A Comprehensive Study Of Phenolics And Peptides From Three Legume Varieties, Yan Zhang
Theses and Dissertations
Lentil, black soybean and black turtle have been proved to be phenolic-rich legume varieties and possess higher antioxidant activity. In this study, the three legume varieties were subjected to broad range of processing conditions, and the effects on phenolic contents, antioxidant capacity and individual phenolic acid were investigated. The results showed all processing methods could decrease the total phenolic content, and steaming processing could preserve more phenolics and antioxidant activity than boiling processing. Phenolic acids mainly existed in nonree form and the content of individual free phenolic acids was dependent on the thermal process applied. When in vitro gastrointestinal simulation …
Differentiating Single And Multiple Suicide Attempters: What Nightmares Can Tell Us, Katrina Joy Speed
Differentiating Single And Multiple Suicide Attempters: What Nightmares Can Tell Us, Katrina Joy Speed
Theses and Dissertations
Suicide is a leading cause of death in the United States, despite a wealth of research investigating suicide risk factors. Sleep disturbances are also rising, and continue to be an often undetected and untreated source of increased suicide risk. A growing body of literature has looked for connections between sleep disturbances and increased suicidality, but few studies have looked at differentiating between single and multiple suicide attempters. Further, when assessing nightmares, literature varies widely on defining and measuring symptoms of nightmares, and no known studies have compared frequency, distress/severity, and duration. Participants (n =225) were recruited via an online study …
Digital Holographic Microscopy Of Microparticles, Satam Fahad Alotibi
Digital Holographic Microscopy Of Microparticles, Satam Fahad Alotibi
Theses and Dissertations
Digital holography is a method for recording holograms through the use of an optoelectronic sensor, which serves as a replacement for the use of film [1]. Through the use of coherent light, the microparticles’s characterization can be observed with this method. Yet even using partially coherent light, images of particles can be formed revealing particle shape and size at scales larger than 10 micrometers. For example, ragweed pollen sporeclusters and glass microspheres are investigated here. The holographic images results are compared with conventional optical microscope images for validation.

Transmission Of Religiosity From Parent To Child: Moderation By Perceived Parental Psychopathology, Melanie Stearns
Theses and Dissertations
Parents influence their children’s religiosity through many factors including parenting practices, parental religiosity, and parental psychopathology. Little research, however, has been conducted on how different parental psychopathologies, such as anxiety, depressive, and antisocial problems, affect the transmission of religiosity from parent to child. Participants reported the psychopathological behaviors of their parents via the Adult Behavior Checklist as well as personal and parental religiosity using a new religious scale. Structural equation modeling was used to measure whether parental psychopathology, parent gender, and participant gender would moderate the relationship between perceived parental and emerging adult religiosity. Results indicated that maternal interactions were …
Development And Application Of Polyclonal Antibody Based Proximity Ligation Assays In Detecting Antigenic Variants Of Influenza A Viruses, Brigitte Elizabeth Martin
Development And Application Of Polyclonal Antibody Based Proximity Ligation Assays In Detecting Antigenic Variants Of Influenza A Viruses, Brigitte Elizabeth Martin
Theses and Dissertations
Influenza A virus (IAV) is a zoonotic pathogen which consists of a large genetically and antigenically diverse viral population. Swine IAVs not only cause disease outbreaks among swine, but can also be transmitted to humans, causing sporadic infections and even pandemic outbreaks apart from human seasonal IAV. Antigenic variant identification is fundamental for an effective vaccination program. Red blood cell based immunological tests have been used to identify antigenic variants among circulating IAV strains. Because these assays require viral isolation, they are time consuming and labor intensive. Thus only limited numbers of virus isolates are subjected to antigenic characterization in …

Genetic Diversity Among And Between Rivercane, Arundinaria Gigantea, Canebrakes Assessed By Microsatellite Analysis, Jeremi Scott Wright
Theses and Dissertations
Arundinaria gigantea, a North American bamboo that historically grew in vast canebrakes, is now considered a critical component of an endangered ecosystem. Expressing self-incompatibility, restoration efforts must ensure genetic diversity within canebrakes for viable seed production. DNA fingerprinting methods were developed using 20 simple sequence repeat (SSR) markers and two sequence-characterized amplified region (SCAR) markers. Among 18 markers able to amplify rivercane DNA via polymerase chain reaction (PCR), 10 were demonstrated to be polymorphic within rivercane. Markers could distinguish rivercane among and between canebrakes and could discern full-sibling seedlings. The mostly-infertile Mississippi canebrakes of rivercane were determined to contain 46% …

Kinetic Analysis Of Rat Blood And Tissue And Human Blood Acetylcholinesterase And Butyrylcholinesterase After Inhibition With Novel Nerve Agent Surrogates And Reactivation With Novel Oximes, Steven Archie Dezell
Theses and Dissertations
Organophosphates (OPs) are used in agriculture via pesticides, and warfare and terrorism via nerve agents. OPs can inhibit acetylcholinesterase (AChE) activity in the nervous system, leading to the buildup of acetylcholine (ACh), and overstimulation of the nervous system and eventual asphyxiation and death. The development of novel blood-brain barrier () penetrating pyridinium oxime reactivators have previously demonstrated efficacy towards treatment of OP poisoning after exposure of rats to a sarin or a VX surrogate, nitrophenyl isopropyl methylphosphonate (NIMP) and nitrophenyl ethyl methylphosphonate (NEMP), respectively. An effective oxime antidote capable of penetrating the and restoring nervous system activity after exposure to …

Investigating The Influence Of Image Resolution On Longleaf Pine Identification In Multispectral Satellite Data, Casey Aaron Johnston
Investigating The Influence Of Image Resolution On Longleaf Pine Identification In Multispectral Satellite Data, Casey Aaron Johnston
Theses and Dissertations
In previous research, longleaf pine was shown to be spectrally separable from loblolly pine when using high-resolution multispectral data from the WorldView-2 imaging satellite. However, analysis of such high-resolution datasets would be computationally inefficient over a large landscape such as the southeastern United States. Therefore, the objective of this thesis was to approximate the minimum spatial resolution required to separate these two southern pine species. A pan-sharpened, spectrally subset (NIR bands only) WorldView-2 dataset was spatially resampled from 0.46m to 0.5m, 1.0m, 2.0m, 4.0m, 8.0m, and 16.0m. Supervised classification was performed on each of these resampled resolutions. The results of …
