Distinctive Personality And Discipline Characteristics Of Child-Neglecting Mothers, Robert J. Loveland

The present study was designed to investigate distinctive personality and discipline characteristics of mothers who physically neglect but do not physically abuse their children. An attempt was made to acceptably define the concept, to meet the need for information regarding a representative sample of child-neglecting mothers, and to test hypotheses of a psychological nature suggested by the literature.

There were ten mothers in the neglect group and ten in the reference group. Each of the neglectful mothers had been accused of failing to provide basic physical care for their children, and the group consisted of the ten most recent referrals …

Effects Of Emotional Inoculation And Supportive Therapy On Stress Incurred From Nursing Home Placement, Mary B. Carman

Research indicates that relocation of an elderly person to a nursing home constitutes a major stress to the individual which can be life threatening. The present study was designed to assess the efficacy of two different treatment approaches in attenuating that stress.

Thirty-six elderly persons being placed in nursing homes for the first time were randomly assigned to one of three groups. The purpose of this study was to develop a course outline to begin the teaching of the American Sign Language at the Language Training Mission in Provo, Utah. Presently there is no program offered to train missionaries to teach the eight discussions to the hearing impaired who use sign language and fingerspelling to communicate. This study attempts to provide such a course outline that can later be developed into a complete training program.

Manual arts and industrial therapy programs have been historically an important segment of the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Service in Veterans Administration hospitals. It has been regarded as a significant form of patient· treatment. The increasing emphasis during the past fifteen years on vocational factors in the rehabilitation treatment process has necessitated and included the training of personnel as therapists. Therapist who have been chosen from the profession of Industrial Arts have worked so successfully in federal, state, local, and rehabilitation centers that the demand has become far greater than the supply.

1. Are there significant differences in the counseling role of the seminary teacher as seen by members of stake presidencies and bishops, and as seen by seminary teachers themselves?
2. Is there a consensus among teachers and Church leaders concerning the counseling role of the seminary teacher?

This research study is a descriptive study of the effectiveness of the psychiatric staffing as determined by a follow-up study of fifty-two Richmond Public School Pupils given such staffing during the l966-67 school year. The review of pertinent literature reveals what others have contributed to the knowledge of the nature and function of the school helping team. The teamwork approach, which involves the efforts of several professions and disciplines working closely together, is seen as the best present method to meet the complex, overlapping needs which have been found to affect students' learning.

The purpose of this research was to give an account of the 1940 senatorial election in North Dakota, which launched William Langer's career as a United States Senator. The study focused on the candidates and issues that were prevalent during the pre-primary conventions, the primary election campaign, the realignment of candidates after the primary, and the general election campaign.

This research is directed to a rough and beginning evaluation of the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964 as evidenced through one Community Action Program, the Neighborhood Development Program, in Baltimore, Maryland during the late fall of 1966. In this study the implementation of the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964 is evaluated according to the perceptions of the Neighborhood Development Assistants who are the indigenous workers in the program. The purposes of the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964 and each Community Action Program were taken directly from the Act itself, and then various phrases were operationally defined.

This Thesis was an examination of those persons receiving that form of vrolfc.ro assistanco known as general assistance in terms of the concepts of anomie and social participation. Tho act of receiving general assistanco was presented as a behavioral response contrary to the normative expectations of tho American society. It was hypothesized that general assistanco recipients are more anomic and participate less in society than those low income person not seeking or receiving welfare assistance. A Study Of Moral Development In Mormon Culture, Steve Foster Gilliland

Previous studies have indicated that the moral development of the child may follow a "developmental" process. That is, the child progresses through an invariant series of stages, each characterized by certain modes of thought. As the child passes from one stage to another, he integrates the old stage into the new one. Kohlberg proposed a hierarchy of six stages through which the child would progress on his way to moral maturity. His hypothesis has been supported by empirical evidence.
