Adult Sibling Loss: Family Dynamics And Individual Adult Sibling Loss: Family Dynamics And Individual Characteristics, Stephen D. Stahlman

Theses and Dissertations

The current study investigated family, individual and sibling relationship variables of adult sibling loss, using a cross-sectional survey design. A purposive sampling procedure was used to recruit adult subjects that had experienced the death of an adult sibling within the last five years. Ninety-four subjects responded to the initial request with 84 subjects returning questionnaires for an 89% response rate. Family variables of communication, cohesion, and adaptability and individual variables of individuation, self esteem as well as level of grief were operationalized using standardized instruments through a mailed questionnaire.

Nursing roles in school health programs differ within various school settings. These roles range from traditional nursing activities to nurse practitioner and mental health nurse roles. Literature specific to the roles of nurses in a school health program is limited; however, studies indicate that the school nurse role is multidimensional. Role theory was the framework used for this study. The purpose of this study was to determine school administrators' perceptions of the role of the nurse in a school health program.

Little is known about the seventy-two women who served in the North Dakota legislature between 1923, when women first took seats, and 1989, the state's Centennial year. Their collective story has been absent from major scholarly works about the history of North Dakota, a state which prizes its unique and colorful political heritage. The purpose of this study is to remedy this lack of information.

A variety of published and unpublished sources were consulted, including the records of proposed bills and resolutions. A survey was developed and used to obtain additional biographical and other information about current and former women …

Professionalism And Job Satisfaction Of Registered Nurses In The Commonwealth Of Virginia, Elisabeth B. Hutton

The purpose of this study was to investigate current views of professionalism and job satisfaction of registered nurses practicing a variety of health care settings in the State of Virginia. Five research questions were investigated in this analytical-descriptive study. A two percent stratified random sample of 427 registered nurses, female and actively employed, represented all nurses from five regions in the state of Virginia. The demographic findings indicated that the majority of nurses were diploma graduates, staff nurses, employed in hospital settings, and working full-time.

Parent-child caregiving is the most basic caregiving situation. However, parents who continue to provide care to an adult mentally retarded child have been an unexamined group of caregivers. This study compared stress levels and social support constellations among these caregivers and two other groups of parents.

The study tested two major hypotheses. Parents who were caregivers for an adult child with mental retardation were predicted to report higher stress levels and smaller social support constellations than the other groups. This study was designed to examine the perceptions of students training to be counselors, clinical psychologists, and social workers, regarding the professional titles of counseling psychologist, psychiatrist, clinical psychologist, and social worker. A videotaped counseling session of a therapist and a client, a client description, and a therapist description served as the stimuli. The professional title of the therapist varied in the therapist description and served as the independent variable. The purpose of this study was to explore the relationships that may exist among certain cognitive attributes of the counselor-in-training and the formation of his or her clinical conceptualization of a client. Specifically, the study examined the relationships that exist among the counselor's learning style, cognitive mode, conceptual level, theoretical orientation, and particular aspects of the counselor's case conceptualization.Fifty-nine Masters level graduate students in counseling participated in the study. Subjects viewed a videotaped simulation of a client presentation after which they provided their clinical impressions and conceptualization. Problem. The study identified and compared beliefs of accounting faculty, accounting chairpersons, and deans of business at small colleges and universities concerning the perceived appropriateness of the 1985-86 AACSB personnel and curriculum accreditation standards for undergraduate business administration programs in relation to undergraduate accounting education.

Procedures. A total of 1,008 accounting faculty, accounting chairpersons, and deans of business were sent a survey depicting components of the above-mentioned accreditation standards. They were asked to express their beliefs concerning the appropriateness of these components in relation to undergraduate accounting education. There was a response rate of 57 percent with 575 questionnaires returned. …

The Problem: This study was designed to develop profiles of Minnesota teachers who did and did not engage in supplementary income activities, profiles of teachers engaged in one, two, or three or more supplementary income activities, and to compare the differences. The study also investigated the perceived need to engage in supplementary income activities, the perceived reasons for being engaged in supplementary income activities, and the perceived impact of being engaged in supplementary income activities.
