Because occupational therapy involvement in transition planning is a relatively new area. little was known about the characteristics of school-based therapists who serve students in this age group. The purpose of this study was to determine their current level of participation in the transition process, the roles that therapists identified for themselves in this process, their attitudes towards best practices for serving students ages 14 - 22, and occupational therapists’ future training needs if they are to participate fully in the national transition initiative. The major purpose of this study was to evaluate the level of satisfaction with training as reported by foster care providers in North Dakota. A secondary purpose of this exploratory study was having foster providers identify their foster child care responsibilities and major benefits of training.

Providers of each of the two major types of foster care in North Dakota, general foster care and therapeutic foster care, evaluated training received. This was done separately due to the different training objectives and procedures of each. Half of the 884 foster care households in North Dakota were randomly included in this study. …

Training Needs Of Educators In Integration Of Students With Physical And Medical Disabilities Into The Regular Classroom., Peggy M. Mohr

The purposes of this study were to: (a) determine training needs of regular educators regarding integration of students with physical or medical disabilities, (b) compare perceived needs of elementary educators with those of secondary educators, and (c) determine characteristics of physical or medical handicapping conditions perceived to influence students' abilities to benefit from educational experiences. A sample of 505 regular educators was surveyed. Resulting data were analyzed utilizing frequency distributions, mean rank tables, percentages, crosstabulations, and chi-square statistics.Educators indicated perceived needs for training regarding integration of students with physical or medical disabilities. The Relationship Between Task Performance And Perceived Quality Of Life Of Families With Adopted Special-Needs Children, Bibhuti Kumar Sar

A correlational approach was utilized in this study to investigate the relationship between adoption related task performance and perceived quality of life of families with an adopted special-needs child. Additionally, a set of contextual variables suggested by the literature to influence family functioning with an adopted special-needs child were also studied. Purposive and availability sampling approaches were employed to identify the sample of special-needs adoptive families (N = 289) to whom a survey questionnaire was sent. Both mothers and fathers were asked to complete the Survey.

Research shows that the identification and subsequent treatment of child sexual abuse victims often rests on the ability of the child to disclose the abuse. However, many victims never disclose sexual abuse, thereby increasing the potential for long-term victimization during childhood. There is a pressing need for information regarding factors which facilitate disclosure and factors which hinder this process, so that strategies can be developed to address the pervasive problem of child sexual abuse.

This descriptive study examined the nursing and health care activities of Mormon women in the pre-depression period of 1914 through 1930 through analysis of the official voice of the Relief Society, the Relief Society Magazine. Entries from the Relief Society Magazine that dealt with any nursing or health care topic were coded according to the themes they addressed. Five themes emerged: Nursing, faith, healing, women's health, children's health, and public health.

Individuals with sensory and multiple physical impairments, which may include the loss of the ability to speak, have very specialized communication needs. Based on the belief that the current technology does not fully meet these needs, a prototype communication aid was developed for an individual who is cortically blind, dysphonic, and motor impaired. Furthermore, the communication device has broader applications beyond the present individual.

The prototype system has a direct selection of "Yes" and "No" responses, scanning access to daily phrases, rate enhancement of all scans, prompted encoding for selection of letters, two letter codes for complete sentences, access to …

This study examines the history of county poor farms in North Dakota and places them within the wider perspective of poor relief in the United States.

North Dakota inherited its system of poor relief from the Elizabethan and American colonial poor laws. Poorhouses were a part of poor relief practices that also included local responsibility, outdoor relief, indenture of paupers, the poor list, expulsion of non-resident paupers, pauper burial, discouragement of vagrancy, and family responsibility for the poor.

The study compared perceptions and use of accreditation among students attending Minnesota technical colleges holding three different types of accreditation.

A total of 777 students from three different academic program areas were surveyed. The students were selected from eight technical colleges. Four colleges were accredited by the NCA Commission on Institutions of Higher Education, two colleges were accredited by NCA Colleges and Schools, and two colleges were accredited by the Minnesota State Board of Technical Colleges.

Students do use and possess some awareness of accreditation. Accreditation was used by 36.5 percent of the students in their choice of colleges and …

This qualitative study focuses on five prospective female teachers' attitudes toward mathematics. The meanings each informant ascribes to her experiences surrounding mathematics are described in this work. Each informant was interviewed weekly during her senior mathematics methods course and observed and interviewed weekly throughout her student teaching experience. Interviews were open-ended and was the central focus of methodology. A field diary was used to record the reflective portions of field notes.
