Sample Preparation And Electron Microprobe Analysis Of Lignite And Deposits, Thomas D. Wilhelm Jun 1968

Sample Preparation And Electron Microprobe Analysis Of Lignite And Deposits, Thomas D. Wilhelm

Theses and Dissertations

A suitable technique for preparation of lignite ash deposits for electron microprobe analyses was developed. Six samples were prepared and systematically analyzed on the microprobe for chemical concentrations and distribution relationships at four separate positions on the tube deposit. The six samples were collected on air cooled tubes placed in the combustion gas stream during combustion of four high sodium lignites and two low sodium lignites in the Bureau of Mines pilot plant combustor.

Sodium-sulfur compounds were found in a layer completely surrounding the tube. The thickness of this layer was reduced when covered by the bulk of the deposit. …

An Analysis Of The Marketing Practices Of North Dakota Motels, Kenneth L. Mellem

Theses and Dissertations

This thesis describes and analyzes the marketing practices of North Dakota motels. The data were obtained principally from a survey of selected North Dakota motels. A Design Study In Costume For Projected Dramatic Productions Prescribing A Book Of Mormon Setting Identified Herein As Late Preclassic Mesoamerican Culture, Amanda J. Brown

Theses and Dissertations

The purpose of this thesis was to design costumes for twelve characters, selected from the Book of Mormon, suitable for projected dramatic productions. Selection of the characters was determined by the following criteria:
(1) Sufficient dramatic potential for projected dramatic productions must be inherent in the period from which characters are drawn.
(2) Characters should represent various levels within their society.

The problem of creating the costume designs presumed an investigation of environmental factors which would influence the clothing styles worn by a typical cross section of Late Preclassic Mesoamerican society. Origins of the American Indian are briefly discussed and …

An Evaluation Of Lds And Non-Lds Reactions Toward A Byu Produced (Non-Member Oriented) Film, James H. Wilson

Theses and Dissertations

In recent years the Brigham Young University Motion Picture Studio has been producing films with the specific purpose of appealing to the non-member or non-LDS (an abbreviation for Latter-Day Saint or Mormon) person.
As a part of the Church's missionary program, these films are designed to persuade, convince and bring about conversion to the teachings of the Mormon Church. Consequently, in many phases of film production there is a bias factor. Members of the Church (employees of the Brigham Young University Motion Picture Studio) are endeavoring to determine the most effective themes and techniques to utilize in communicating to a …

Mechanical Effects Of Acoustic Transients On Tobacco Mosaic Virus, Philip Edward Hamrick Jan 1968

Mechanical Effects Of Acoustic Transients On Tobacco Mosaic Virus, Philip Edward Hamrick

Theses and Dissertations

The mechanical breakage of tobacco mosaic virus (TMV) due to the action of acoustic transients has been investigated. The acoustic transients were produced by transient heating of a Prussian blue dye solution (attenuation coefficient of 1000 per cm) when a ruby laser light (20 x 106 watts) was incident on the dye surface. A quartz piezoelectric transducer was used to determine the amplitude and form of the acoustic wave. The production of acoustic waves by transient heating is discussed, and the theoretical form of the acoustic wave determined for various boundary and initial conditions are compared to the experimentally …
