Similarly, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (2021) estimated that 58.7% of individuals over the age of 12 have used a substance in the last month. Despite the identification of both of these experiences as relatively common societal concerns, the impact of parental substance use on children and families has primarily been evaluated in a …

Advanced Statistical Methodology For The Modern Probability Of Detection, Christine E. Knott Sep 2023

Advanced Statistical Methodology For The Modern Probability Of Detection, Christine E. Knott

Theses and Dissertations

Probability of detection (POD) is an invaluable part of the calculations used by the USAF to validate the capabilities of nondestructive inspection systems for detecting defects in critical structural components on aircraft. A POD study consists of a designed experiment, linear modeling, and a probability of detection verses defect size curve. This curve is useful for determining how often an aircraft should be re-inspected. Some POD studies are unsuccessful in creating realistic POD curves because the statistical modeling used has two common limitations: (1) a lack of convergence leading to no solution and, (2) violated assumptions leading to incorrect solutions. …

Analysis Of Multi-Agent Routing Solution Methodologies Exploring A Mosaic Warfare Strategy, Stephen D. Donnel Sep 2023

Analysis Of Multi-Agent Routing Solution Methodologies Exploring A Mosaic Warfare Strategy, Stephen D. Donnel

Theses and Dissertations

Recognizing that communication between assets may be possible locally but not globally (e.g., due to disruptions to a communication network), Mosaic Warfare requires the movement and operation of multiple, dispersed assets in smaller groups (i.e., tiles), within which exist hierarchical, functional relationships between assets. This research first evaluates a heuristic for an enterprise of aerial assets comprised of airborne sensors, command and control, and strike aircraft seeking to move towards and destroy stationary targets. Next, we examine routing multiple assets of different types over a network to service demands in a collaborative manner, in that, when servicing a demand, …

Parental support roles in K-12 online learning differ from traditional schools. Since K-12 students typically have not developed the self-regulation skills necessary for academic engagement, parents partner with schools to provide the affective, behavioral, and cognitive engagement support necessary for academic success. Through 21 semistructured interviews with parents supporting K-12 students in varied online contexts, this study delineates how parents provided support in each of these dimensions of engagement. The participants felt that in online education, parents should take the primary responsibility for behavioral engagement support, and that teachers were primarily responsible for cognitive support. Parents believed they shared affective …

Phosphorus Sorption And Kinetics Across The Sediment-Water Interface Of Utah Lake, A Shallow Eutrophic Lake, Forrest Fielding Stretch Jarvis Jarvis Aug 2023

Phosphorus Sorption And Kinetics Across The Sediment-Water Interface Of Utah Lake, A Shallow Eutrophic Lake, Forrest Fielding Stretch Jarvis Jarvis

Theses and Dissertations

Internal sediment phosphorus (P) cycling may regulate harmful algal blooms (HABs) in shallow eutrophic lakes. Utah Lake frequently experiences HABs despite its high alkalinity and P-rich sediment. Phosphorus cycling between the lakebed and the water column is dependent upon stable P-sorption with organic matter (OM) and mineral species, which can vary with substrate availability, P-concentrations, temperature, redox, pH, and microbial activity. A full biogeochemical analysis of the water and sediment across seven sites shows Utah Lake to be spatially well-mixed in terms of composition and sorption, with few exceptions. Sediment P-concentrations (avg. 677 mg-P kg-1) primarily correlate with redox-sensitive iron …
