Future Meteorological Droughts In The Southeastern Us, Kunal Bhardwaj, C. Prakash Khedun, Abdul A. Khan
Journal of South Carolina Water Resources
The Southeastern U.S., despite its humid climate, experiences recurrent meteorological droughts which impact agricultural, water resources, ecological systems, and the economy and society. Knowledge of future drought conditions can guide adaptation efforts. Here, we evaluate historical and projected droughts using the Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI) and the Standardized Precipitation-Evapotranspiration Index (SPEI) computed from an ensemble of eight bias-corrected Global Climate Models (GCMs) from the Climate Model Intercomparison Phase-6 (CMIP6). The historical performance (1950–2014) of the GCM’s mean was benchmarked against gridded observations from the Climate Research Unit (CRU). Future changes were assessed under 1.5°C, 2.0°C, and 3.0°C global warming levels. We …

The central design principle is that NFTDVE must be capable of …
Physiologically Derived, Per-Control Input Debouncing For Tremor-Affected Touch And Key Input, Gerard Ziemski
Physiologically Derived, Per-Control Input Debouncing For Tremor-Affected Touch And Key Input, Gerard Ziemski
Defensive Publications Series
This disclosure describes an accessibility technique, making no health claim: filtering the unintended repeated activations caused by hand tremor from discrete user input, deriving the rejection window from the physiology of the tremor rather than choosing it by feel or exposing it as a user setting.
A tremor at frequency f spaces its repeats approximately 1/f apart. The method sets the debounce window to one full tremor period, W = 1/f, and makes explicit the rule that follows: a window W rejects every repeat sooner than W, and so suppresses every tremor faster than 1/W. The uncovered edge is therefore …

Journal of Food and Drug Analysis
Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic inflammatory disease characterized by recurrent bacterial infections that cause pruritus, erythema, xerosis and thickening. Cajanus cajan root extract prepared with 95% ethanol (EECR95) has been shown to possess antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antibacterial properties in previous studies. This study aimed to evaluate EECR95’s ability to improve AD by inhibiting methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) growth and reducing inflammation. This study found EECR95 effectively inhibits MRSA growth (IC50 = 103.74 μg/mL) and reduces pro-inflammatory cytokine production in an MRSA-keratinocyte-macrophage model. LC/MS/MS analysis revealed the presence of active compounds- flavonoids, isoflavones, and flavonoid glycosides, highlighting EECR95's potential …

Midsouth Entomologist
The systematic study of the mosquitoes of the world did not begin until the early years of the 20th century. Among the early entomologists to specialize in the field was Clara S. Ludlow, who graduated from Mississippi Agricultural and Mechanical College. Her research began in the Philippines in 1901, while American troops were still fighting in the Philippine-American War, and for over 20 years she researched mosquitoes in connection with the U.S. Army. This article explores Ludlow’s scientific career and the legacy of her research.

Family Religious Socialization Index: Development And Preliminary Validation, Kaelie Rene Crockett
Theses and Dissertations
A key area of interest for religious scholars is how religious beliefs are passed across generations, or religious socialization. To expand this field of study, a theoretically grounded, validated measure of this construct is needed. This article describes the development and validation of the Family Religious Socialization Index (FRSI), a multi-informant, multidimensional assessment of the processes through which parents socialize religion and faith in their children. Based on Social Cognitive Theory and through a rigorous development and validation process, three subscales were developed to represent the primary processes of religious socialization. The FRSI consists of two parallel scales, a parent …

Transient Activation Of Potent Progenitor Cells Is Required For Spinal Cord Regeneration, Chase Alexander Weinholtz
Transient Activation Of Potent Progenitor Cells Is Required For Spinal Cord Regeneration, Chase Alexander Weinholtz
Arts & Sciences Graduate Student Theses and Dissertations
Mammalian spinal cord injury is an intractable biomedical problem driven by interlocking maladaptive cellular responses that prioritize acute stabilization over long-term recovery. However, this deficient regenerative capacity is not an inherent limitation. The zebrafish, for example, capably regenerates and regains motor function with 2 months of a full transection injury. This ability is thought to rely on the transient expansion of stem cell-like progenitors marked by sox2 expression. Yet our understanding of the identities and contributions of this crucial population remains limited. Here, we determine the molecular identities and cellular contributions of sox2+ progenitors during innate spinal cord repair in …

Staff Education To Address Verbal De-Escalation Skills In Correctional Mental Healthcare, Mary L. Goodman
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
This staff education project evaluated the effects of a structured verbal de-escalation training program on self-efficacy among staff in a federal correctional mental health unit. Staff at the site often reported uncertainty managing escalating behaviors, leading to frequent use of restrictive interventions like restraints and seclusion—practices that can compromise safety, quality of care, and raise ethical concerns. To address this gap, an evidence-based curriculum was implemented for 41 multidisciplinary staff, including nurses, certified nursing assistants, and correctional officers. The curriculum included a PowerPoint presentation, role play, and group discussion. A pre–post design measured changes in staff confidence using a modified …
Influence Of National Policies In Addressing Intimate Partner Violence In Sierra Leone, Yatta Matilda Musa
Influence Of National Policies In Addressing Intimate Partner Violence In Sierra Leone, Yatta Matilda Musa
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Intimate partner violence (IPV) has been shown to be a critical public health and human rights crisis in Sierra Leone driven by patriarchal sociocultural norms. However, despite legislative frameworks like the Domestic Violence Act of 2007, IPV incidents continue to rise, revealing a gap in policy implementation and real-world enforcement. Past research has documented IPV prevalence, yet an empirical evaluation assessing how stakeholders viewed the impact of national policies on prevention and response had not been conducted. The purpose of this study was to explore frontline stakeholders' perceptions regarding the operational influence of existing IPV policies. Grounded in the narrative …

Implementation Of A Nightshift Sleep Promotion Bundle To Support Delirium Prevention In A Neurosurgical Intensive Care Unit, Pamella Simpson
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
This Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) quality improvement project aimed to identify the need for a consistent sleep-promotion protocol in an adult neurosurgical intensive care unit (NSICU). Disrupted sleep is a frequent problem for patients who are seriously ill and can lead to delirium, longer hospital stays, higher health care expenses, diminished cognitive function, and death. While there was evidence supporting nonpharmacological sleep-promotion and delirium-risk-reduction interventions, they were not consistently implemented at the project site, creating a gap between evidence and clinical practice. The purpose of this project was to implement and evaluate an evidence-based night-shift sleep-promotion bundle. The practice-focused …

Belonging And Whole Person Formation In Graduate Education: A Conceptual Framework For Student Flourishing, Cynthia Hickman
Belonging And Whole Person Formation In Graduate Education: A Conceptual Framework For Student Flourishing, Cynthia Hickman
Papers
Graduate students experience substantial academic, personal, and professional demands that can negatively affect well-being and persistence. For students enrolled in professional programs, belonging may develop within two overlapping communities: the academic institution and the emerging profession. Institutional and professional belonging can provide connection, support, engagement, and opportunities for identity and professional development. This paper synthesizes literature on these two forms of belonging and proposes a conceptual framework describing their potential relationship with whole-person formation and flourishing. Whole-person formation extends graduate education beyond knowledge acquisition and professional competence to include development across interconnected dimensions of the person. Within the proposed framework, …

Identifying The Brain Circuits Involved In Religious Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, Kiana Bunnell
Theses and Dissertations
Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is an often-debilitating psychiatric disorder involving a pattern of obsessive thoughts and compensatory compulsions. Symptoms tend to be chronic, leading to substantial emotional burden and significant impairment across multiple domains of daily functioning. Previous research has identified some consistency in the brain regions implicated in OCD. In particular, cortico-striato-thalamo-cortical (CSTC) circuitry has been linked to behavioral features commonly observed in OCD. Moreover, some studies suggest that distinct patterns of brain activation and functional connectivity may be associated with different OCD symptom dimensions, though findings have not been consistent. One symptom dimension of OCD (scrupulosity) is characterized by …

Is “No Change” Really No Change?: A Qualitative Analysis Of Clients With “No Change” On Routine Outcome Monitoring Who Report Improving In Therapy, Audrey Louise Stewart Parker
Theses and Dissertations
Routine outcome monitoring (ROM), the practice of tracking client progress in therapy by administering regular questionnaires to assess functioning, has demonstrated a significant positive effect on psychotherapy outcomes, especially for clients are who not improving as expected. However, some researchers argue the symptom-based measures and outcome classification criteria commonly used in ROM may not represent a complete picture of client change. A recent body of mixed-methods research has investigated these ROM-determined outcome categories to gain insight into client experiences and whether the category and client perception of therapy outcome align. In this investigation, researchers have found significant variety within outcome …

Staff Education To Enhance Phq-9 Depression Screening Compliance, Chibugo Chukwu
Staff Education To Enhance Phq-9 Depression Screening Compliance, Chibugo Chukwu
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
This staff education quality improvement project at Clinic P targeted the clinical problem of depression under-diagnosis, evidenced by less than 60% of patients completing the patient health questionnaire (PHQ-9) before the initiative. Depression under-diagnosis, significantly caused by provider PHQ-9 screening competency deficits that need to be addressed through staff education, is associated with adverse patient health outcomes, in turn generating negative implications for providers and wider society. The problem compromises the quality of nursing care because it limits nurses' ability to intervene and deliver timely and effective care to patients with depression. Thus, at Clinic P, this initiative asked how …
