Non-Equilibrium Parametric Pumps For Separating Liquids Or Gases, Anil Krishna Rastogi
Non-Equilibrium Parametric Pumps For Separating Liquids Or Gases, Anil Krishna Rastogi
Theses
An experimental and theoretical study has been done of Non-Equilibrium parametric pumps. Mathematical models and computer programmes are developed for both thermal and heatless parametric pumps based on non-equilibrium conditions and linear isotherms. A mathematical study was done for thermal parametric pumps whereas both experimental and theoretical studies were made for a heatless parametric pump. The effect of different operating conditions has been investigated on the separation of NaCl-H2O via a thermal parametric pump and He-CO2 and He-C3H6 gas mixtures via a heatless parametric pump.
The experimental study of heatless parametric pumps was extended …
An Approach To Energy Conservation In A Manufacturing Industry, William Polignano
An Approach To Energy Conservation In A Manufacturing Industry, William Polignano
Theses
The approach attacks the problem of control and planning of energy usage via three major categories. These areas are: detection, forecasting and reporting of energy usage.
To initiate any energy program the first step, is the identification of the areas that use the most energy, thus allowing detailed studies to be concentrated in these energy-intensive areas. The author has attempted to show which areas are energy-intensive in his employer's plants.
The second step is the accurate forecasting of energy usage. The author has attempted this via an econometric forecasting model that accurately predicts energy usage based on direct labor hours …
Air Control In A Newark City Subway Station, Robert H. Burch
Air Control In A Newark City Subway Station, Robert H. Burch
Theses
During the period from June, 1974 to January, 1976, 103 24-hr samples of the air at the Broad Street station of the Newark City Subway were collected by cascade impactor. The size distributions (based on Stoke's equivalent diameters) of the total suspended particulate matter were determined gravimetrically. Samples were also analyzed by atomic absorption spectrometry to obtain information on the concentration of iron, manganese, lead, copper, zinc, and cadmium in each size fraction. The geometric mean particulate level was found to be more than twice the Federal Ambient Air Quality Standard and triple that of ambient Newark air sampled nearby. …
Point Of Operation Safeguarding - A Metal Forming System Approach, William Baker Eaton
Point Of Operation Safeguarding - A Metal Forming System Approach, William Baker Eaton
Theses
The mechanical power press in its application in the metal stamping and forming industry has been misinterpreted as a selfcontained metal forming system. Examination of the production routines involving the press show that this machine is actually only one elemental component of the metal forming system and not the total production unit.
Authoritative codes and standards pertinent to the mechanical power press have reflected this misinterpretation by not including system considerations in their contents. These omissions have resulted in the providing of safeguards which do not properly reflect the particular characteristics of the metal forming system to which they are …
Sparsity And Decoupling In Load Power Flow Analysis, Kenneth Nazimek
Sparsity And Decoupling In Load Power Flow Analysis, Kenneth Nazimek
Theses
This paper presents some recent ideas on and methods created by power engineers for the solution of the Load Flow Problem. Beginning with an analysis of the solution of large systems of linear equations, techniques employing elementary matrix operations are discussed to reduce the amount of calculations necessary to achieve repeated solutions. Recent interest in taking advantage of the characteristic sparsity of the admittance matrix is also examined. The problems of operating on and computer storage of large sparse matrices are investigated. Methods to efficiently order, store and work with large sparse matrices are discussed and demonstrated. The general acceptance …
Analysis Of Combustion Products Of Kynol And Nomex, Abdul Halim Hassan Housny
Analysis Of Combustion Products Of Kynol And Nomex, Abdul Halim Hassan Housny
Theses
The gaseous products generated by flaming combustion of Kynol and Nomex fibers under the same conditions (temperature 300-700°C, natural air) were quantitatively analyzed by infrared spectrophotometry, gas chromatography, mass spectrometry and a colorimetric tube method. The four techniques were chosen to examine the wide range of volatile and condensable products expected due to their different capabilities and sensitivities.
The main gases generated were carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, methane and benzene.
The mass spectrometer was used to identify the condensed vapors. These were mainly phenol, methyl phenol and dimethyl phenol from the Kynol fiber and benzene, aniline, diaminobenzene, benzoic acid, benzonitrile, …

Image Intensification By Superimposed Vesicular Images Generated By Decomposition Of Hydrogen Peroxide, William Grabenstetter
Image Intensification By Superimposed Vesicular Images Generated By Decomposition Of Hydrogen Peroxide, William Grabenstetter
Theses
In the late 1960's, Weyde discovered that treating conventionally processed silver halide films with hydrogen peroxide led to intensified densities by the superimposition of vesicles at the silver image sites. This project attempted to reproduce the results of 5° - 10°DIN speed increase and excellent sharpness mentioned in the patents issued to Weyde. Using the patents as a reference, a paste of urea hydrogen peroxide and PEG was examined as an image intensifier, with no success. Alternate binders suggested in the patents were then examined, Triton X-405 proving to be the best. A paste of 4g. urea hydrogen peroxide in …

Mtf And Adjacency Effects Of Vesicular Film, Timothy Sewell, Paul Willig
Theses
The Modulation Transfer Function and adjacency effects are important measurements of a photographic material. For vesicular film it is of interest to investigate the MTF and adjacency effects with relation to the three variable parameters, development temperature, exposure and development time. This investigation clearly shows that adjacency effects do occur in vesicular film, and that exposure and development temperature are important factors in determinating the film MTF.
Copper Physical Development Of Copper Latent Images, Gregg Tashker, Peter Schreiber
Copper Physical Development Of Copper Latent Images, Gregg Tashker, Peter Schreiber
Theses
Copper physical development of copper latent images was researched. The proposed method for producing copper latent images was to soak a titanium dioxide in a copper (II) sulfate nucleating bath and expose to UV radiation below 4l0nm. The exposures were to produce the copper latent image. Three physical developers were used to try to intensify the latent images. The developers utilize an iron (II)/iron (III) redox system to reduce copper (II) sulfate to copper metal. The developers also contain carboxylic acids as complexing agents for iron (III) ions and cationic surfactants for stability. The printout achieved was not stable and …
A Study Of The Effect On Direct Stencil Edge Definition Of Emulsion Thickness, Screen Mesh Count, Fabric Thread Thickness And Coater Blade Thickness, George Bedirian
A Study Of The Effect On Direct Stencil Edge Definition Of Emulsion Thickness, Screen Mesh Count, Fabric Thread Thickness And Coater Blade Thickness, George Bedirian
Theses
The present study arose out of a desire to test the assumption that in order to obtain direct stencils with good edge definition, one either had to use fine screens or. If using a relatively coarse screen, apply multiple coatings of emulsion to the screen before making the stencil. Neither alternative seemed satisfactory, since the first did not allow optimal use of the scope of screens available, and the second entailed an expenditure of time and supplies that could possibly be shown to be unnecessary. It was therefore determined to carry on an experiment that would show whether direct stencils …

Bioenergy And Emotions, Vickie C. Walter
Bioenergy And Emotions, Vickie C. Walter
Theses
This thesis explores the concept of bioenergy as an integral force underlying both human physiology and emotional experience. Drawing on a wide range of historical, cultural, and scientific perspectives, the work examines how different traditions and researchers have conceptualized and attempted to measure or influence this subtle energy. The discussion begins with Wilhelm Reich’s notion of “orgone energy,” a vital force he linked to psychological health and emotional regulation. Reich’s controversial theories and experimental devices are considered in the broader context of psychoanalysis and somatic therapy.
The study then traces parallels between Reich’s work and ancient energy systems such as …

Frederic W. Goudy Correspondence 1935-1946, Anne Thomen
Frederic W. Goudy Correspondence 1935-1946, Anne Thomen
Theses
American printing of the late nineteenth century was crude and commercial in the worst sense. The ideals and vitality that William Morris, Emery Walker, C. H. St. John Hornby, Charles Ricketts, T.J. Cobden-Sanderson and others injected into English printing during the last decades of the nineteenth century and into the twentieth were known to relatively few Americans. One of those few Americans was Frederic W. Goudy, March 8, 1865--May 11, 1947. Paul Johnston in an article for the Fleuron (No. VII, 1930, p. 191A) wrote, "It was the part of Frederic W. Goudy to help the general printer in America …
Quality Aspects Of Holographic Image Deblurring, Robert Kalita, Lawrence White
Quality Aspects Of Holographic Image Deblurring, Robert Kalita, Lawrence White
Theses
The process of holographic image enhancement was investigated with respect to image quality. A maximum improvement in MTF of 60% was achieved. The process itself was found difficult due to the critical natures of many of its steps. The theory of image enhancement by optical processing is explained in detail and the reasons for using a holographic filter are discussed.
