Relations Between Aggregation State Of Thiacarbocyanine Dyes In Solutions And That Adsorbed On Silver Bromide From There Solutions, Kazuo Kato
Theses
Absorption spectra of two thiacarbocyanine dyes in various solutions which had different aggregation ability of the dyes and reflectance spectra of the dyes adsorbed onto silver bromide grains from those solutions were taken. It could be concluded by comparison of these spectra that there was little or no correlation between state of aggregation of the dye in solution and that on AgBr grains when adsorbed from the solution.
The Effect Of Emulsion Stabilizers On The Rate Of Solution Of Silver Halide Grains, Christopher L. Dumont
The Effect Of Emulsion Stabilizers On The Rate Of Solution Of Silver Halide Grains, Christopher L. Dumont
Theses
The effects of the emulsion stabilizers, 4-hydroxy- 6-methyl-l ,33a,7-tetraazaindene and l-phenyl-2-tetrazoline- 5-thione on the rate of solution-physical development of a monodisperse AgBr emulsion containing Carey-Lea silver sol were measured at a series of concentrations. A study of the effects of the silver halide solvent, sulfite has been stud ied along with a low-solvent surface developer. It was found that the tetraazaindene definitely had an effect on the rate of solution-physical development, while the l-phenyl-2- tetrazoline- 5-thione did not have a significant effect.
Images In Glass, Douglas Anderson
Images In Glass, Douglas Anderson
Theses
The nature of this thesis is to mate creative glass working and imaginative illustration. I intend to use a fictional manuscript and interpret its aesthetic meaning in glass. The glass will take a form similar to painting and drawing creating compositions with emotional intensity- I will use, as needed, all available techniques known to me in glass technology to compose these illustrations. I will present this partnership of glass and illustration in a readable format such as a book.
An Investigation Of A Viscous Lithographic Developer, Thomas Gribb
An Investigation Of A Viscous Lithographic Developer, Thomas Gribb
Theses
The photographic and physical properties of viscous lith developers have been investigated. Developers thickened with hydroxyethylcellulose (Hercules Natrasol 250 HR) afforded the optimum characteristics of ease of mixing and pseudoplastic behavior. Photographically, viscous lith developers demonstrate performance in many ways similar to non-viscous formulas. Characteristically, the developers show great sensitivity to changes in pH, and changes in HQ, bromide, and sulfite concentrations. However, viscous lith developers are inherently 0.2 log H lower in photographic activity than comparable non-viscous developers. Furthermore, viscous developers are characterized by low contrast in highlight (negative) areas of halftone reproduction. Large dot area (90%) images show …
The Determination Of Using The Standard Screening Angles When Printing With 400-Count Anilox Rolls And 100 Line Images Via Flexography, John Ahrens
Theses
From the pioneering efforts of the early 1960 's, flexography has shown steady progress in the development of four color process printing. However, the ability to consistently produce it is limited to an elite group. The vast majority of companies have yet to competitively enter this demanding area of printing. For these companies the time, expense, and expertise required to conduct an indepth study is a major deterrent. Outside information must be made available to aid the companies. The FTA and its members have greatly contributed by publishing an array of information; although, some basic questions have yet to be …
Design And Production Of A Comprehensive Graininess Scale For Use In Electrophotography, Susan B. Mueller
Design And Production Of A Comprehensive Graininess Scale For Use In Electrophotography, Susan B. Mueller
Theses
Methods were investigated and modeled to produce a graininess by density sample matrix. The graininess values were based on a model derived for certain imaging processes that has a high correlation to the subjective impression of graininess for nominally uniform image areas. After modeling several processes, a photographic technique was chosen and a matrix manufactured.
Instituting Management Changes Through Decentralized Budgeting In A Public Mental Health Setting, Wesley E. Wilber
Instituting Management Changes Through Decentralized Budgeting In A Public Mental Health Setting, Wesley E. Wilber
Theses
This study examines the adoption and implementation of a decentralized budgeting model within a public mental‑health institution, focusing on the administrative, financial, and organizational consequences of shifting from a centrally controlled budget framework toward local unit responsibility. Drawing on archival records, budget data, and administrative narratives from the institution’s transition period, the analysis highlights how decentralization altered decision‑making dynamics, cost behaviour, service orientation, and internal accountability structures. The decentralization initiative empowered individual units by giving them budgetary control over expenditures previously managed at the centralized level, thereby increasing their autonomy over staffing, program purchases, and resource reallocation. This shift brought …
Use Of Gadolinium In 13c Nmr Studies, Barbara J. Luke
Use Of Gadolinium In 13c Nmr Studies, Barbara J. Luke
Theses
The addition of the paramagnetic reagents gadolinium(18- crown-6) nitrate, gadolinium(dicyclohexano-18-crown-6) nitrate, and gadolinium nitrate pentahydrate to each of the substrates ethylbenzene, and thymidine has been studied in an attempt to obtain quantitative 13C spectra. These reagents reduce the nuclear Overhauser effect and shorten the spin-lattice relaxation times of the carbons of these substrates.

Influence Of First Developer Solvent Levels On The Information Storage Capacity Of Negative And Reversal Images, Wendy R. Harrison
Influence Of First Developer Solvent Levels On The Information Storage Capacity Of Negative And Reversal Images, Wendy R. Harrison
Theses
Silver halide solvents are commonly used in the first developer of a reversal process to obtain brighter highlights and a higher effective speed. An investigation was carried out to determine the effect of a low and high level of solvent on the sensitometric char acteristics as well as the covering power, granularity, modulation transfer function (MTF) and the information storage capacity of Plus-X reversal film 7276. The investigation was designed such that the only variable in the systems studied was the first developer. D-67, i.e., D-19 containing two grams liter^-1 of potassium thiocyanate, was chosen as the high solvent first …

Impingement Of An Axi-Symmetric Jet On A Flat Surface, Amir J. Daibes
Impingement Of An Axi-Symmetric Jet On A Flat Surface, Amir J. Daibes
Theses
An incompressible, inviscid irrotational flow model was used to represent the normal impingement of a circular axisymmetric jet upon a flat plate. An analytical investigation was conducted to determine the free surface of the jet and the solution of the potential flow problem was obtained using finite difference techniques for jet height-to-nozzle radius ratio of 2.4.
The velocity and pressure distributions at the plate surface and along the jet centerline were obtained.
The results from the finite difference solution are in close agreement with other most recent results from available experimental, and approximate solutions to the potential flow problem.
A Microprocessor Based Digital Logic Simulator, Kevin Dresher
A Microprocessor Based Digital Logic Simulator, Kevin Dresher
Theses
It is the intent of this thesis to acquaint the reader with a tool which is available for use in the digital circuit design field. The reader is now able to totally simulate via DLS the digital logic design he creates on paper before it ever takes a hardware form. The computer program accepts a detailed description of the schematic and creates timing diagrams, loading statistics, cross references, and various lists for future documentation.
The user needs no programming knowledge and will find the requirements to run a simulation with DLS extremely user oriented. The simulation descriptions and command language …
The Characterization Of The Oxygen Transfer Capabilities Of Fermentors, Joseph Stephen Adamca
The Characterization Of The Oxygen Transfer Capabilities Of Fermentors, Joseph Stephen Adamca
Theses
A method of characterizing the oxygen mass transfer capabilities of fermentors was developed where volumetric oxygen mass transfer coefficients are obtained using a modified sulfite oxidation method in conjunction with on line digital data processing. Carboxymethylcellulose is used in the reaction media to simulate the viscosity of typical non-Newtonian fermentation broths. Using this method, instantaneous values of volumetric oxygen mass transfer coefficients can be obtained for various combinations of agitation and airflow rates in different fermentor configurations. This data is useful in the scale up or scale down of fermentors.
Data obtained using this method have revealed that for a …
Analysis Of Unsteady-State Heat Conduction In A Cylinder With The Finite Element Method, Richard F. Bernard
Analysis Of Unsteady-State Heat Conduction In A Cylinder With The Finite Element Method, Richard F. Bernard
Theses
Unsteady-state heat conduction in a cylinder of finite dimensions with constant physical and thermal properties was analyzed with the finite element method. Symmetry of the cylinder and application of Newman's method reduced the problem to two independent one-dimensional problems. Finite element equations for the axial and radial dimensions were developed utilizing Galerkin's method of weighted residuals. Crank-Nicholson approximations were used for time derivatives. A computer program was written for solution of the finite element equations.
Solutions obtained were conditionally stable; dependent on the value of the ratio KΔt/ρCpl2. For values of the ratio less than 1/3, errors in …
The Removal And Recovery Of Fluoborate From Plating Rinse Waters, Terrence A. Hunter
The Removal And Recovery Of Fluoborate From Plating Rinse Waters, Terrence A. Hunter
Theses
Fluoborate poses a problem to electroplaters when discharged in their wastestreams. Therefore, a method for removing fluoborate from rinse waters is necessary. An ion floatation technique using a surfactant was developed at N.J.I.T. to perform this job. However, this technique requires long time periods therefore other methods were investigated.
Ultrafiltration was investigated as a replacement for the ion floatation technique. It would cut down the time required for the fluoborate removal. Also, electrolysis and the addition of excess acetic acid were tried in an attempt to separate the fluoborate and the surfactant in the ultrafiltration retentate. This system was evaluated …
An Experimental Study Of Photopolymerization In A Continuous Stirred Tank Reactor, Songvit Setthachayanon
An Experimental Study Of Photopolymerization In A Continuous Stirred Tank Reactor, Songvit Setthachayanon
Theses
An experimental study was carried out on the control of CSTR by on-off regulation of light intensity for the photo-sensitized polymerization of styrene. The controllability of the reaction temperature, the advantages of operating at metastable states, and the molecular weights of the polymer formed were discussed. The influence of feed temperatures, sensitizer concentrations, and residence times on the reactor performance characteristics were also discussed. Experimental results showed that polymer formed at the metastable state had a higher average chain length and narrower molecular weight distribution than that formed at the low stable state. While increasing the residence time shifted the …

Transient Phenomena Of Polymer : Aniline-Formaldehyde Fiber And Copolymer Aniline-Phenol-Formaldehyde Fiber, Ing-On Vibulbhan-Watts
Theses
The rotational viscometer which had a uniform stress, designed by Dr. W. Philippoff was used for measuring the viscosities of 6% L-200 in PRIMOL 355 and Lekutherm x-30. Viscosities of 6% L-200 in PRIMOL 355 (polyisobutylene) was measured to check the change of material that was left in the visometer for almost two years. The result showed that the new viscosities are higher than the older results.
Temperature Dependency Of The Group Interaction Parameters In The Agsm And Unifac Models For The Prediction Of Heats Of Mixing, Ignatius Okoronkwo Ojini
Temperature Dependency Of The Group Interaction Parameters In The Agsm And Unifac Models For The Prediction Of Heats Of Mixing, Ignatius Okoronkwo Ojini
Theses
A four-parameter group-contribution model (UNIFAC) has been developed for the prediction of heats of mixing of non-electrolyte mixtures. Both the UNIFAC and AGSM models are evaluated over a wide range of temperature dependencies of the group interaction parameters. The UNIFAC model has been chosen over the AGSM model and an optimum parameter-temperature relationship has been established.
Adopting the optimum temperature dependency, group inter-action parameters have been calculated using UNIFAC for the prediction of four types of mixtures: n-Alcohols/n-Alkanes; Benzene/n-Alkanes; Nitriles/n-Alkanes; Amines/n-Alkanes.
The Effects Of Concurrent Photon Amplification Utilizing An Infrared Latensification Source, Mitchell D. Feather
The Effects Of Concurrent Photon Amplification Utilizing An Infrared Latensification Source, Mitchell D. Feather
Theses
An investigation was conducted regarding the effects of varying supplementary exposure on High eSpeed Infrared Film. In addition, CPA was evaluated in comparison to Hypersensitization and Latensification. The results were that CPA is superadditive with respect to both density and exposure, the maximum effect being noted in the toe of the characteristic curve. Furthermore, Hypersensitization and Latensification , with dark intervals up to five seconds, displayed efficiency that was not significantly different from CPA. It was also determined that the spectral distribution of the imaging source does not affect the efficiency of CPA. Corroboration of C&C Research's speed increase claims …

Plate Stability In Screenless Printing, Stephen E. Martin
Plate Stability In Screenless Printing, Stephen E. Martin
Theses
Lithography in the minds of most people is a method of reproducing a photograph or artwork by means of a halftone screen. The screen, usually no finer than 400 lines per inch reproduces the image by varying degrees of density through control of the dot size. With screenless printing the image is reproduced without the screen, resulting in much better detail. The purpose of this thesis is to determine what type of plate material will work best with the "Association Product Coating", since the ST Sumner Williams plate that worked well with this coating is no longer produced. The criterion …
