Since children are facing many stresses both from within and without, it is felt that bibliotherapy may be a way of helping them face and cope with their problems. This paper presents the development and application of the Ongoing Art Therapy Interview (OATI), a structured approach designed to assess and support patients in a psychiatric day hospital setting. The OATI combines the therapeutic and diagnostic dimensions of art therapy by integrating artwork with guided interpersonal dialogue. It is informed by Harry Stack Sullivan’s interpersonal theory of psychiatry, particularly his diagnostic framework for understanding patient experience, communication, and relational patterns.

A method of mathematically modeling the response of a system in which color reflection prints are made from a negative was investigated. Data was generated by making a series of prints with different yellow and magenta filtrations at a series of exposures. First, second and third order regression curves were fit to the filtration versus reflection density curves and the exposure versus density curves that were thus generated. The predictions of the sets of equations were compared to the data and it was found that the filtration could be predicted more accurately than the exposure time, because, the response curves …

Image restoration by short space spectral subtraction has been applied recursively to a photographic system in an attempt to increase the signal to noise ratio proportionally to the amount of optical density present. The image is smoothed in the frequency domain a small space at a time based on the power spectrum at a given density level. The method is a variable filter that is a function of photographic density.

Direct transfer cylinders are usually imaged from positives created off of the camera back. In this thesis a method was proposed to create positives from a dot-generating laser scanner that would fit the requirements of direct transfer cylinders. A test gray scale was scanned and a positive produced which contained square dots as opposed to round dots. This positive was used to etch a cylinder and then the cylinder was run on the Champlaln rotogravure press, located in the school of printing. Two hundred seven measurements of camera motion, made while operators took photographs, were used to calculate the average Modulation Transfer Function (MTF) and Subjective Quality Factor (SQF) due to the motion. Eight experiments were performed with a 35mm camera at weights of 300 and 600 grams. The camera displacement path was sampled at intervals ranging from 0.5 milliseconds to 15.6 milliseconds. The MTF and SQF were calculated, at several shutter times, from the measured displacement paths using the model of a perfectly efficient shutter. SQF was a linear function of shutter time. An attempt was made to obtain a set of spatial transfer functions which would allow the prediction of output effective exposure distributions for a nonlinear lithographic film system. Slit exposures were used as one-dimensional system inputs. It was proposed that the use of slits would allow the calculation of a general system transfer function to be simplified. This thesis is to study the four main factors which affect cell depth in copper cylinder etching in direct transfer gravure, and using ferric chloride as an etchant. The multivariate regression method was used to analyze the sample responses (cell depth) of nine different treatments of an etched-screened-tone scale . The regression equations for predicting cell depths from the four variable factors were calculated and the optimum condition which would give the best tonal gradation was predicted. Also the factors which cause uneven cell depth were detected.

Densitometric and gravimetric methods are employed to measure the percent of ink trapped in a wet-on-wet transfer. This study seeks to discover the relationship of the two methods and if there is a significant difference between the percent gravimetric and percent apparent trapping. An IGT Printability tester (Model-A2) with two printing discs is used to apply ink onto paper. When using the gravimetric method the amount of ink on the disc and ink transferred onto paper are weighed with an analytical balance. The author then calculates the percent ink trapping. This thesis is concerned with an investigation carried out to establish a new correlation for the prediction of the heat transfer coefficient during flow boiling through tubes, vertical and horizontal flows, for water and organic fluids (including refrigerants). An additive mechanism of convective and boiling heat transfer has been formulated to give the net heat transfer during flow boiling. The correlation employs three dimensionless parameters: the Convection number, the Boiling number and the Froude number.
