The transfer of the image to the substrate in lithographic printing relies very much on the characteristics of the fountain solution. The quality or desensitization potential of the solution has always been determined by measurements of pH ; and by the more "recently" proposed method of electrochemical conductivity. This paper is a study of a means of improving the instruction of composition. It is a comparison of the Bay Area Writing Project Method to the Traditional Writing Method. An experiment was conducted using a treatment group that was taught composition through the Bay Area Writing Project Method and a control group that was taught composition through the Traditional Writing Method. The results were two-fold. This study was designed to investigate the library education of teachers in the Lutheran elementary schools in the Saint Louis area. It vas hypothesized that teachers were not prepared to use the library as it should be used, partly because they had not been taught to do so, and that their feelings of how adequately trained they were would depend on when and where they had received their education. Elementary teachers, a total of 244 teachers, in twenty-nine schools were surveyed. A linewidth measurement system has been developed which incorporates a coherent laser microspot with a piezo flexure-pivot translational stage. A line is scanned beneath the microspot and reflected energy collected with an on axis geometry normal to the wafer. The technique of unsharp masking is described and its use as an image enhancement technique discussed. A mathematical model for the masking process is developed; experimental testing and MTF measurements of the masked and sharpened images are made to test the validity of the mathematical model as a predictor of the mask and final image characteristics. The effect of contrast, mask unsharpness, and source spread function size on the resulting MTF are presented. Subjective evaluations are used to determine the visually optimum image. The use of Fourier and modulation transfer techniques implies the ability to characterize an optical system and predict the output resulting from various inputs. In this study, the optical system is defined as a projection system, rear projection screen, and the human eye. A determination of modulation thresholds of visibility for a series of sinusoidal (in transmittance) test objects results after some manipulation in the modulation transfer function of the complete system. Determining the shear strength behaviour of a very stiff calcareous clay in the Direct-Simple Shear tests is the purpose of this thesis. The clay tested is the MLK Arderten Clay from West Germany.

For the Direct-Simple Shear tests, a trimming device was prepared to get the required size of the samples. Porous stones with nails were used to prevent the slippage of the samples.

The heterogeneous catalytic decomposition of isopropyl alcohol vapor over 0.5% platinum on (4-8 mesh) charcoal support catalyst was studied at bench-top in a fixed-bed tubular micro-reactor of about 1 cm ID, six inches long containing one or two grams of catalyst. Reactor feed and exit gas analysis was obtained by gas chromatography.

This unique system controls the pAg concentration by adjusting the flow rate of the halide solution. A complaint often made against the process is that boundaries between the composited images are often 'harder,’ i.e., there is a sharper transition between the image and their surround. A set of software tools for the Motorola M68000 microprocessor was developed to run under the UNIX* operating system. A C language cross compiler was created by modifying the UNIX ‘C’ compiler for the PDP-11. A macro cross assembler was designed and implemented to produce relocatable object modules for the M68000 in the a.out format of PDP-11 UNIX object modules.
