Prediction Of Vapor-Liquid Equilibrium From Ternary Liquid-Liquid Equilibrium Data, David Kim Yee
Prediction Of Vapor-Liquid Equilibrium From Ternary Liquid-Liquid Equilibrium Data, David Kim Yee
Theses
Reasonable estimates of ternary vapor-liquid equilibrium can be obtained by using the corresponding liquid-liquid equilibrium (LLE) data with the NRTL, LEMF and UNIQUAC models. The overall average absolute deviation in vapor phase concentration for seven such systems is 0.028.: Use of the UNIFAC method gives erratic predictions suggesting caution when applied to such systems. Combination, however, of the LLE data and the UNIFAC method gives the best results with a deviation of 0.020 Prediction of binary VLE behavior from LLE data yields also reasonably good results.

Prediction Of Cut-Off Frequency From The Maximum Slope Of A Transmittance Scan Of An Ideal Edge, Dale E. Ewbank
Prediction Of Cut-Off Frequency From The Maximum Slope Of A Transmittance Scan Of An Ideal Edge, Dale E. Ewbank
Theses
This study has empirically shown that the maximum slope of an ideal edge scan in transmittance versus position is an excellent indicator of the cut-off frequency at which a microdensitometer system's modulation transfer function goes to zero. It was found that numerical aperture of collection objective, scanning slit width and alignment, system focus, and sampling interval are parameters which must be carefully chosen and set-up when implementing or using this slope technique to check system performance.

Generation Of Software To Produce A Landsat Scene Comprised Only Of Pseudo Invariant Features, Martha C. Leahy
Theses
The purpose of this thesis work was to provide soft ware in Fortran programming language that will read, print and process data contained on Landsat computer compatible tapes. The programming was done on the Xerox Sigma 9 computer at the Rochester Institute of Technology. The processing involved reading and re-registering fractions of files and performing simple numeric operations on the digital spectral radiance values of individual picture elements. The result was a fraction of a Landsat scene containing pixels that are classified as vegetation, water, mixed elements or invariant features.

Bedouin Textiles Of Saudi Arabia, Celia Wright
Bedouin Textiles Of Saudi Arabia, Celia Wright
Theses
During the past year I have had the opportunity of working closely with a collection of Saudi Arabian woven textiles and other crafts. These textiles are characterized by the combination of a great variety of techniques, indicating a diffusion of techniques between the Arabian Peninsula and adjacent cultures. The frequent combination of both warp-faced and weft-faced structures within a single woven piece is particularly fascinating, as it rarely occurs in other cultures. This thesis will research the techniques and designs used in Saudi weaving and in the weaving of adjacent and related cultures in Africa and the Middle East which …
The Printing Industry In Sub-Sahara Africa: An Exploratory Study, H. Richard Harmsen
The Printing Industry In Sub-Sahara Africa: An Exploratory Study, H. Richard Harmsen
Theses
The printing industry in Sub-Sahara Africa faces numerous problems inhibiting further growth and development. Because of a scarcity of published information regarding these problems, and regarding the nature of the industry in general, this study hoped to establish a beginning and baseline for researchers, printing managers, suppliers, development planners, and anyone else interested in the development of the African printing industry. Specifically, the objectives of this study were to identify: 1) the general characteristics of the printing industry in Sub-Sahara Africa; and 2) the primary constraints inhibiting its further growth and development. Information was gathered by several means, including a …
The Effect Of Ink/Fountain Solution Emulsion Of Paper Permanence, Thomas H. Spotts
The Effect Of Ink/Fountain Solution Emulsion Of Paper Permanence, Thomas H. Spotts
Theses
The permanence of printed documents and books appears to be primarily dependent on paper stability. Other researchers implicate pH as a major factor in the deterioration rate of paper and acidity as major the cause of this deterioration. During the lithographic printing process, ink is in direct contact with fountain solution, which can be acidic or alkaline. Fountain solution is a mixture of water and chemicals used to keep the non-image areas of a lithographic plate moist. On press the intimate contact of ink with fountain solution creates a fountain solution-in-ink emulsion. The emulsion used here is a stable suspension …

Opinions Of Hollenbeck Junior High Students Regarding The Year-Round Schedule, Teri Timmons
Opinions Of Hollenbeck Junior High Students Regarding The Year-Round Schedule, Teri Timmons
Theses
This study, conducted by Teri Timmons in partial fulfillment of a Master of Arts in Education degree at The Lindenwood Colleges (1982), explores the opinions of junior high students at Hollenbeck Junior High School in the Francis Howell School District regarding Year-Round Schooling (YRS) versus the Traditional School Schedule (TSS). Amid growing interest in alternative academic calendars due to rising student populations and limited funding for new educational facilities, this research sought to evaluate student attitudes toward these two scheduling models.
A random sample of 35 students who had experienced both YRS and TSS during their elementary years was surveyed …
Teacher Judgment, Teacher Rating And Reading Readiness As Predictors Of First Grade Reading Achievement, Linda White
Teacher Judgment, Teacher Rating And Reading Readiness As Predictors Of First Grade Reading Achievement, Linda White
Theses
This study concentrates on the efficiency of three predictive measures used at the end of kindergarten to predict how kindergarten students will perform in reading in relation to three ability groupings of high, average, or low for first grade. Through research this writer attempted to find out if a teacher's own prediction for future academic achievement in reading will be as efficient as a prediction of a rating scale or a reading readiness test.
Included in this paper the researcher has a review of the problem of prediction in education and a review of the factors that researchers have considered …

Factors Influencing Flexographic Tone Reproduction Including Types Of Printing Plate Materials Used, Bruce Capriotti
Factors Influencing Flexographic Tone Reproduction Including Types Of Printing Plate Materials Used, Bruce Capriotti
Theses
During the past three years, a number of photopolymer plates for flexographic printing have appeared on the market. The use of such a plate greatly simplifies flexographic platemaking by reducing the process to a level similar to that of a presensitized plate for offset lithography. A series of experiments were conducted to determine whether or not there were significant differences in the areas of half tone dots in different areas of the tonal scale on different types of flexographic plate materials all made from a single negative with a specially designed test object on it. Assuming significant differences were found …
