Determining Spectral Sensitivity Of Kodak Micro Positive Resist 820, Matthew L. Huck
Determining Spectral Sensitivity Of Kodak Micro Positive Resist 820, Matthew L. Huck
Theses
The spectral sensitivity of KODAK Micro Positive Resist 820 has been determined for the spectral range of 300nm to 500nm. A xenon-source monochrometer was used in a hard contact exposing system. Se/isitivity is defined as the inverse of the exposure (mj/cm ) needed to produce an image in a photoresist coated plate having walls of 70 normal slope. Low intensity reciprocity law failure has been conclusively shown to exist in this resist with exposure intensities of 100 mw/cm and below. Guide lines have been drawn up, based on the procedures and results of the experimentation, to assist photoresist users in …
Evaluation Of The Photographic Characteristics Of Emulsions With Different Iodide Percentages, Joseph M. Sharp
Evaluation Of The Photographic Characteristics Of Emulsions With Different Iodide Percentages, Joseph M. Sharp
Theses
Ammonia-converted iodobromide emulsions with 0, 1, and 5 mole% iodide were prepared with a single-jet precipitation procedure to the same grain-size distribution. After development to gamma-infinity with high-solvent and low-solvent type developers, photographic characteristics were determined and are reported here. Iodide affects absorption of light in an emulsion, but when corrections are made for this change in absorption, iodide does not change the basic sensitivity of sulfur-sensitized emulsions.
The Effects Of Agitation In Positive Photoresist Image Quality When Using A Bubble Development System, Keith D. Mogerley
The Effects Of Agitation In Positive Photoresist Image Quality When Using A Bubble Development System, Keith D. Mogerley
Theses
An important goal of the microelectronics industry is to make new technological advances while keeping the cost of the fabrication process down. To achieve this goal, the microelectronics industry are presently placing more active devices on each chip, while at the same time trying to increase the number of successful chips per wafer. In order for the industry to successfully do this, they must reduce all of the dimensions in the circuit while trying to maintain its physical, chemical, and functional properties. These demands have made all steps of the fabrication process more critical. The scope of this project will …
Variations In Image Magnification Due To Mask Repositioning In A 1:1 Projection Printer, Sarah M. Dolan
Variations In Image Magnification Due To Mask Repositioning In A 1:1 Projection Printer, Sarah M. Dolan
Theses
A Perkin-Elmer Micralign 230 Exposure Tool was used in an analysis of magnification variation. In the analvsis, all elements were kept constant except for the repositioning of the mask between sets of wafers that were exposed. Repositioning was initiated by removal and replacement of the mask from the exposure tool and the mask holder. Overlay measurements were then taken from the exposed wafers. These measurements were used to calculate the amount of magnification error of the images found on the wafers. These magnification values verified the hypothesis that repositioning of the mask has a significant effect on magnification values.
Derivation Of The Transformation Relationship Of Pseudo-Invariant Features Of Two Landsat Images, Jeffrey R. Sefl
Derivation Of The Transformation Relationship Of Pseudo-Invariant Features Of Two Landsat Images, Jeffrey R. Sefl
Theses
The purpose of this effort was to determine the relationships of the spectral radiance distributions of pseudo-invariant features for a selected pair of Landsat images. The relationships for the four bands (band 4 through band 7) were determined to be linearly related. The transformation equations will map one images brightness values on to a second images brightness values.
A Decision Theory Approach To Tone Reproduction, Kevin E. Spaulding
A Decision Theory Approach To Tone Reproduction, Kevin E. Spaulding
Theses
The concepts of statistical decision theory were applied to the photographic tone reproduction system to develop an objective measurement of tone reproduction accuracy called the "expected loss" of the system. Reproductions were made of four scenes using systems with a wide range of tone reproduction characteristics. The expected loss for each system/scene combination was calculated, and the perceived tone reproduction accuracy was determined using the psychophysical scaling method of magnitude estimation. A statistically significant correlation was found between the subjectively determined accuracy, and system expected loss, but the degree of correlation was not high enough for the merit function to …
Perception Of Graininess In Complex Photographic Images Through Objective And Subjective Comparison, Glenn E. Mcneill
Perception Of Graininess In Complex Photographic Images Through Objective And Subjective Comparison, Glenn E. Mcneill
Theses
A model previously used for the perception of graininess in uniform-density images that exist in electrophotography, has been verified for use in silver-halide photography. In addition, a model has been developed which estimates the sensation of graininess in photographic images of non -uniform density. Given the relationship between graininess and density in uniform-density images, the graininess in a complex image is weighted by the frequency of occurrence of each measured density in the image. Such an analysis is compared to subjective evaluations. It is shown that the graininess model is useful in predicting the sensation of graininess in photographs.
The Effect Of Microscope Scale Reticle Design On Variance Of Measurement, David D. Rockafellow
The Effect Of Microscope Scale Reticle Design On Variance Of Measurement, David D. Rockafellow
Theses
Little work has been documented regarding the design of optical instrument scale reticles. Reticle is the word used to describe both scales and crosshairs used in the eyepiece of an optical instrument. An ergonomic (the relation of man to his working environment) experiment was performed in which thirteen different scale reticles were designed, manufactured and tested. The design parameters tested were scale spacing, line height, and line thickness. The testing consisted of thirty observers measuring a circular test object through a microscope with each scale reticles. The results, taking into consideration both variance in measurement and observer comments, showed the …
Industrial Art Materials, Frank S. Defrancis
Industrial Art Materials, Frank S. Defrancis
Theses
Anyone, who has ever tried to paint has become well acquainted with the fact that huge sums of money too often buy the meagerest amounts of supplies. Faced with the possibility of either breaking into art supply stores at night or learning to vent my hostilities elsewhere I traded my studio supplies for their industrial counterparts and gratefully have never looked back. The following report will document the advantages as well as the disadvantages that I have encountered in working exclusively with industrial art materials. The first half will deal the materials themselves while the second half will offer a …
Determining Techniques And Alternatives For Pupil Recruitment For Enrollment In The Head Start Program, Nancy Vanzant
Determining Techniques And Alternatives For Pupil Recruitment For Enrollment In The Head Start Program, Nancy Vanzant
Theses
This report examines strategies for improving recruitment and enrollment in Head Start programs serving low-income families in St. Louis. Head Start is a federally funded initiative designed to provide early childhood education, health services, and family support to children from disadvantaged backgrounds. Despite the program’s benefits, many eligible families remain unenrolled, highlighting a persistent gap between available resources and community participation.
The study identifies multiple barriers to enrollment, including limited awareness of Head Start, transportation difficulties, and misconceptions about eligibility. Families often perceive Head Start as a program for others rather than as an opportunity for their own children, while …

Paired Comparisons And Personal Compensation: A Computer-Aided Approach, H. D. Simpkin
Theses
H.D. Simpkin's Paired Comparisons and Personnel Compensation: A Computer-Aided Approach explores the use of the paired comparison method in employee performance evaluation and salary determination. The study examines the challenges human resource managers face in linking salary increases with performance assessments, emphasizing the limitations of traditional ranking and rating systems. The paired comparison method, which systematically compares employees against each other in pairs, is proposed as a more reliable and objective alternative.
The thesis details a study conducted with laboratory technicians, where supervisors used both conventional ranking methods and a computerized paired comparison system. Statistical analysis demonstrated a high correlation …

A Mathematical Model Of Halftone Reproduction Including The Effects Of Optical And Chemical Spreading, Cort Demmert
Theses
A system which predicts halftone reproduction curves for film-developer combinations, based on the combined optical and chemical modulation transfer function for that combination, has been tested using a 100 cycle/inch contact line screen. Density in fine detail is predicted and used to determine fractional area data. Predicted fractional area data was found to lie within 95 percent confidence intervals of experimental fractional area data.
Design Of A High Ratio Gear Reduction Unit, Jean Xydias
Design Of A High Ratio Gear Reduction Unit, Jean Xydias
Theses
This is a right angle gear drive design where helical and spiral bevel gears are being used. Because of the high speed ratio (1800/18 , input/output), three reductions were applied. Two helical gear sets were used in the first and second reductions (one each), and a spiral bevel set was used at the final reduction. The gears were mounted on four shafts, with the first and last shafts (output and input shafts) carrying one gear each straddle mounted, and the second and third shafts carrying two gears each, overhung mounted. The design was based on a criterion that was set …

Deregulation Of The Telecommunications Industry And The Bell System Divestiture - Impact On The Universal Service Concept, Edward H. Hancock
Deregulation Of The Telecommunications Industry And The Bell System Divestiture - Impact On The Universal Service Concept, Edward H. Hancock
Theses
The Communications Act of 1934 established the principle that our nation' s future telecommunications policy was to be structured on the concept of "Universal Service", i.e. that telephone service is essential, and as such , should be made available and affordable for all . Deregulation of the telecornmunications industry and the soon to be accomplished Bell System divestiture will have a significant adverse impact on the universal service concept. The rationale for this premise is presented as follows . First, a theoretical analysis is made of the changes in the regulated utility revenue requirement which will result from deregulation and …
The Effect Of Developer Composition On Adjacency Effects In Black And White Photography: Metol Vsl Phenidone, Paul L. Zengerle
The Effect Of Developer Composition On Adjacency Effects In Black And White Photography: Metol Vsl Phenidone, Paul L. Zengerle
Theses
Increased chemical adjacency effects in black and white photography can be obtained using certain Metol and Phenidone developers. Four different effects are described: 1) development inhibition by iodide ion 2) development inhibition by bromide ion 3) exhaustion of Metol 4) development inhibition by oxidized Phenidone Edge effects produced by Metol exhaustion and by Phenidone development are enhanced by moderate increases in pH. They are reduced by: the addition of hydroquinone, high levels of sodium sulfite, and high fog levels. Developers designed to increase adjacency effects also increase granularity. The trade-off betv/een acutance and granularity is approximately linear for the film-developer …

Bending Vibrations Of A Cantilever Beam On An Eccentric Rotating Disc, Yousry S. Aboelnaga
Bending Vibrations Of A Cantilever Beam On An Eccentric Rotating Disc, Yousry S. Aboelnaga
Theses
The differential equation of motion for the C.G. line of a vibrating cantilever beam which is mounted on an eccentric rotating disc is derived. Exact solutions in terms of hypergeometric functions of this fourth order differential equation with variable coefficients are obtained by making several mild assumptions. These solutions include a large class of vibrational modes.
The primary idea leading to the exact solutions is the factorization of the fourth order differential operator into a pair of commuting second order operators.
Moment Method Solution Of The Time-Dependent Transport Equation To Describe The Scattering Of Gaussian Plane Wave Pulses By A Forest, Nack Yang Cho
Moment Method Solution Of The Time-Dependent Transport Equation To Describe The Scattering Of Gaussian Plane Wave Pulses By A Forest, Nack Yang Cho
Theses
The time dependent transport equation is used to study the transmission of periodic pulses through a forest. The forest is assumed to occupy a half-space region, to be statistically homogeneous and to scatter energy isotropically A periodic sequence of Gaussian plane wave pulses is assumed to enter the forest normally from free space. The transport equation is solved by the moment method using triangular expansion functions. Numerical results indicate the dependence of the incoherent intensity on penetration depth, observation angle, albedo and pulse repetition rate.

Numerical Solution Of Navier-Stokes Equation By Finite Element Method, Kuan-Tzong Lee
Theses
A finite element method for solving the entrance flow in a parallel-plate channal at low Reynolds number has been studied. Two methods of formulation for both incompressible viscous and inviscid fluid flows were developed. The first uses stream function and potential function as field variables while the second uses velocity and pressure. Both formulations presented here ultilized variational principle and weighted residual method. The numerical example was solved by constrained variational principle with penalty functions in conjunction with the Newton-Raphson method. A 9-node quadratic quadrilateral element was used in this example. Numerical results for entrance flow problem were obtained for …

Computer Aided Analysis Of Electroencephalographic Waveforms, Edward Tadeusz Polkowski
Theses
An approach to analysis of EEG waveforms is described. The procedure utilizes a PDP -11 computer to perform a Fast Fourier Transform on four channels of data simultaneously. The transforms are done in real time and. the results are plotted in a manner which allows the operator to easily determine the major background activity and to check for left-right symmetries in brain waves. Patient data is used to verify the computer output against actual clinical diagnoses.
Steady State Heat Transfer From Two Concentric Rings Of Spheres, Kevin J. Fitzpatrick
Steady State Heat Transfer From Two Concentric Rings Of Spheres, Kevin J. Fitzpatrick
Theses
The method of reflections was used to solve the steady state heat transfer problem for two concentric rings of spheres, all at equal surface temperature. The method results in a mathematical model for the three dimensional temperature profiles around the array of spheres. This model is used to develop an expression for heat transfer rate from the array. This work has resulted in a solution for dilute systems since no ring to ring interaction term was found.
On The Analysis And Design Of Clamped Rectangular Plate With Partial Load, Yacin Saaid Jaboury
On The Analysis And Design Of Clamped Rectangular Plate With Partial Load, Yacin Saaid Jaboury
Theses
In this Thesis, maximum deflection and bending moments of a partially loaded clamped rectangular plate are studied. The loading is uniformly applied to a retangular area proportional to the shape.
Navier's Solutions on partially loaded simply supported rectangular plate is superimposed with edge moments to give the clamped boundry condition.
Solutions of maximum deflection and bending moments are derived in Double Series form. A Fortran program is employed in obtaining the numerical results. When the partially loaded area approaches zero it becomes a centrally loaded case; and when loading area to plate area ratio approaches unity it becomes a uniformly …
