This collection, along with research I will undertake in Quito, will eventually aid me in the presentations of my thesis. Pending financial considerations I plan to leave for Ecuador in the beginning of June and establish contacts in Quito with Ministerio de Asuntos Indigenas, sociologists, and photographers who advocate in interest in Indian culture, and Peace Corps volunteers working in the highland area. I intend to explore the importance of object and image as symbols that visually express emotion. I am interested in the human condition and the influences and impressions that cause us to see things the way we do. Through the transformation of feelings and forms, I hope to relate emotional responses to situations we find ourselves in. I plan to use holloware techniques within a sculptural format, possibly combined with clay and other materials to achieve these images.

The artist is not simply a passive reflector of his or her world, but a dynamic creator of it. I have tried to expand and enrich my experience rather than merely duplicate it. The world I create is of planes, volumes, spatial sequences, and some familiar architectural elements such as stairs and boxes. By using the above mentioned elements, a number of interlocking and highly ordered spatial relation ships have resulted. Archivists, conservators and librarians are concerned with paper permanence. Tests have shown that paper permanence is affected by light (especially ultra violet), temperature and humidity changes, acidity, in sects and rodents, and by general use. Environmental damages are often insidious. The objective of this study is to find whether ultraviolet curing and evaporative drying as experienced in the printing industry would affect paper permanence. Glen G. Gray's procedure for finding the reaction rate (the rate at which chemical reactions are completed) of paper is followed. Four different types of surfaces of aluminum plates; 1) brush grained, 2) chemically grained, 3) brush grained and anodized, and 4) electrochemical ly grained and anodized substrates coated with polyvinyl oxazol, an organic photoconductor were studied. The experiments were divided into two parts. The first part concerned with the photoelectric characteristics of the various surfaces, and the second part was involved with image quality relative to photoelectric properties of different substrates. This proposed study addresses the question: Will a daily exercise and nutrition program help increase the level of fitness for children determined to be obese?

A plan of classifying students as being obese is included as well as a recommended program of exercise and nutrition. The program consists of student participation for 24 weeks for 30 minutes daily in addition to their regular physical education class.

Obese students would be divided into two groups. One group would continue their normal daily schedule and the second group would participate in the exercise and nutrition program.

A syntax-directed editor for Pascal is created by using an ALOE (A Language Oriented Editor) implementation tool running under the UNIX* Operating System. An ALOE supports the construction and manipulation of language structures while guaranteeing syntactic correctness. Instantiations of an ALOE for Pascal are generated from a grammatical description of a language. Trees are represented internally by ALOE as an abstract syntax trees that the user manipulates directly, and then maps this internal representation to a concrete representation for display to the user.

Synthesis Of 1-Aryl-3-Pyrazolidinones Through 3-(2'-Arylaminoethyl)-1,4,2-Dioxide-5-One Intermediates, David G. Lincoln

A new preparation of 1-arylpyrazolidinones, not involving the prior preparation of arylhydrazines , is reported. The reaction of 3-arylaminopropiono hydroxamic acids with chloroformates gives the title compounds. This transformation is discussed in terms of the intermediacy of the corresponding l,4,2-dioxazol-5-one ring system. These intermediates undergo mild nitrogen-atom induced decomposition with simultaneous N-N bond formation. The effects of chloroformates and aryl substitution is discussed.

An Application Of Multi-Dimensional Scaling To The Re-Examination Of Preferred Tone Reproduction, David J. Porter

Black and white prints were produced of several scenes that varied in both negative contrast and negative exposure. Subjects rated the various prints by categories based on their own personal understanding of what an excellent print was. The boundaries of the categories were found and used to determine the preferred tone reproduction characteristics. Individual differences were also scaled with the use of a proximity measure determined from the categorical data. The preferred contrast (1.46 +0.24) was significantly higher than the contrast that has been found to be preferred in earlier studies. The application of this study to more general situations …

Micro-Circuit Reticle Fabrication: An Investigation Of A Silver Halide Emulsion As A Portable Conformable Mask, Patrick St. Cin

Theses

An investigation of the possibility of spin-coating a silver halide emusion similar to that used on Kodak HRP plates onto a positive resist coating reticle blank was made. By changing the cating weight and temperature of the emulsion it was found that the emulsion could be coated onto the reticle without harm to the positive resist material. A five micron width line was imaged successfully and measured in the final chrome sub-layer of the reticle.

The body of work in this thesis embodies an exploration on form. My interpretation has primarily dealt with form as it relates to hollowware, both functional and non-functional in nature. The hollowware pieces maintain relatively simple shapes with smooth contours, linear dimensions and movement. The linear elements have opened different interpretations so that the work may extend and expand the forms beyond the geometric shapes to allow new contours and directions . Various transitory lines, subtle curves and gradual taperings all work to enhance gentle flow, movement and elegance within each piece.
