In 1974 Congress consolidated several existing educational programs into the Elementary and Secondary Education Act Title IV. Part B of that bill was designed to provide instructional materials for schools. A majority of Title IV-B money nationwide was used to purchase library books, audiovisual hardware, and audiovisual software.

This study was designed to examine the possible benefits Title IV-B funding had on St. Charles j County school libraries. The relationship between second order stochastic processes and coherent power spectra are explored for developed grain size frequency distributions of silver halide emulsion/developer combinations. Although Wiener spectra represent incoherent power spectra, the coherent case has been unresolved due to the difficulty of filtering the optical system effect. The emulsion plates were exposed with a uniform irradiance distribution from an incoherent tungsten source to create a series of uniform density samples. This thesis is a presentation of four grid designs. They are woven on a multi-harness loom and utilize a strip-weaving technique. The designs are based on a series of colors, and consist of three grid elements; the line, the square and the rectangle. Through the variation of colors and the repeated arrangement of patterns consisting of the aforementioned grid elements, my intention is to have a form of geometric abstraction result from my designs.

A prototype design for a human powered automatic transmission intended for use on an ordinary touring bicycle is presented. The transmission is intended to automatically adjust the gearing of the bicycle to maintain an optimum pedal force, regardless of the current riding conditions. Therefore, the transmission eliminates the need for the cyclist to manually adjust the bicycle gearing. The entire transmission is a self-contained unit designed to bolt onto the rear wheel of an otherwise unmodified 27-inch bicycle. Over the period of December 1982 to May 1983, a software prototype to support the IBM 4975 model 01 A printer was developed. The host computer was the IBM Series/1 minicomputer. The printer controller used was the Feature Programmable Multi-Line Adapter. Both the controller and printer contain one or more microprocessors that do some processing for the Series/1. With the RS232C electrical interface, the printer has remote capabilities. The electrical interface performs data transmission that is serial, asynchronous, and full duplex. This thesis serves as an application showing how intelligent printers and controllers can be utilized effectively on the Series/1.

The primary hypothetical question for this study was: Would a formal ESL program make a decided difference in terms of reducing English phonological and syntactic problems for Thai speakers learning English? The linguistic data was collected from a limited sample (22) of native Thai speakers in the St. Louis area. The subjects were divided into two groups: those with ESL training (Group 1) and those without ESL training (Group 2). A series of identical selected sentences were recorded from both groups. A study was made of the variation in the reflectance of a concrete sample as the sun-object-image angular relationship was varied. The research work was performed in the controlled conditions of a laboratory so that atmospheric effects could be neglected. Reflectance measurements were taken from a. concrete sample whose surface roughness had been measured. Both specular and diffuse illumination in the red (630 - 680nm) wavelength region of the visible spectrum were measured. Bulk constituent elements contained in coal fly ash were measured by X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy in eight samples. Four samples were used as calibration standards for the spectrometer since their compositions were previously determined by atomic absorption spectrometry. Calibration coefficients of the standards were calculated with computer assisted regression analysis of the fluorescence spectra, and used to determine the composition of the remaining four samples. The compositions of the latter four samples, as predicted by X-ray fluorescence, were then compared to atomic absorption results. X-ray fluorescence and atomic absorption results agree best when the concentrations of elements in the standards are …

The specimens were tested under horizontal position with 60 ton hydrolic jack. Pin end was used for both ends to obtain higher accuracy of plotting curves.
