These aspects of the City of Rochester consisted of Mobil Gas Stations and their owners, closed gas stations, and new businesses in former gas stations; the City Limits and residents, animals, and other noisemakers existing proximal to the City Limits; places where I had to wait in line; the MEN and WOMEN of City Hall; the dotted lines that separate traffic lanes; and a short, dead-end street that was bull dozed over and left for field. Comparison Of Two Mtf Measurement Methods: Sine-Wave Vs Edge Gradient Analysis, John Cadou

A comparison of the sine-wave and edge gradient MTF measurement methods, on a photographic black and white film, was performed. A statistical test, a CMT acutance test, and a graphical comparison showed that there was no significant difference between the two measurement methods. This was true for the film processed to have large adjacency effects, as well as for the film processed to have no adjacency effects; however, the agreement was slightly better for the latter process. This thesis incorporates the technique developed by Benoit Mandelbrot to describe recursive fractals into an interactive graphics package based on the Core Graphics System (Core) produced by an ACM SIGGRAPH Committee (1977, 1979). The graphics package encompasses simple standard geometric shapes as well as the recursive fractals. To draw those fractals requires knowing both the basic shape or generator, and the points of recursion. These two pieces are acquired through the using of two windows which allow the generator and the points of recursion to be built. Image Reconstruction Using Wiener Filtering And Unsharp Masking: A Computer Model, Jay Berman

Research was conducted to computer model and compare the image reconstruction obtainable using Wiener filtering and unsharp masking. Wiener filtering and unsharp masking are techniques used to improve image quality and interpretation. It was demonstrated that far greater image restoration is obtained by Wiener filter than by unsharp masking because unsharp masking, unlike Wiener filtering, enhanced image noise along with the edges. A user friendly computer model, that may be used as a tutorial aid for Image Science students, incorporating Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) techniques was designed. Graphics allow the user to follow each stage of the image processing.

Although students may receive appropriate activity lessons early in the school year, by the end of the year they are expected to master weekly lists of high frequency Dolch words in isolation . The survey 's population was randomly selected from St. Louis County secondary schools. The study documented the need for control of solid waste through recycling and t he need to educate to improve recycling. It provided an extensive review of the literature on recycling instruction as well as classroom recycling activities and lesson plans.

Synthesis of methyl substituted phenols (via various diazonium salts), to be used as a monomer in the synthesis of ordered polyesters and to study the liquid crystal continuum from monomer-to-oligomer-to-polymer, was attempted. Deblocking of di(methoxyphenyl) terephthalates with sodium ethanethiolate in dimethylformamide resulted in the preferential cleavage of the ester linkage over the alkyl -aromatic ether linkage. A number of cleavage products resulted, depending upon the reaction conditions. 4,4'[sulfonyl bis(ρ-phenylene ether)] dianisole was prepared as a model compound to be used in the ordered poly(ester-sulfone) study. A computer system has been designed to acquire EEG data from monkeys and to perform the spectral and statistical analysis. The system is capable of processing two channels simultaneously, acquire 64 Kbytes of EEG data for each channel on floppy disk, do the spectrums and averages of the spectrums, and calculate the histogram amplitudes of 13 frequency bands in a range of 0-71.1 Hz.

New data on coal tar oils and data from the literature on pure compounds and oils derived from coal were used for testing the predictions by the correlation of Maxwell—Bonnell. Based on the observation that the discrepancies between the predicted values and the data are systematic, recommendations were deduced on needed modifications to the correlation. A proposal for modification to the Maxwell and Bonnell correlation to improve prediction of vapor pressures of highly aromatic fuel fractions with characterization factors of8 UOPK 10.5 was made.

The biological degradation of phenol, O-chlorophenol, and 2,6-dichlorophenol was studied at room temperature in aerated 5 liter batch reactors using mixed liquor from Passaic Valley Sewerage Commissioners Plant (Newark, New Jersey). From the concentration versus time data, kinetic rate constants were determined for phenol (at 100 ppm), 2'-chlorophenol (at 20 ppm), and 2,6-dichlorophenol (at 10 ppm). Air stripping and adsorption were determined to be insignificant removal mechanisms for the three compounds studied.

It was noted that the biodegradation rates increased after the organisms were acclimated to 100 ppm phenol. In addition, on substrate exposure, the degradation rate increased from the …

Male Sprague Dawley rats (250g) were exposed to benzyl chloride vapor at a concentration of 220 ppm for 6 hours. During inhalation, the blood benzyl chloride concentration increased to reach a steady state level of 9-10 ug/ml between 4 and 6 hours of exposure. A small concentration of benzyl chloride (0.86 ug/ml) was present in the blood four hours after the termination of exposure. The absorption half life was 0.53 hours (0.39-0.81) and the elimination half life was l.12 hour (0.93-l.40).

The absorbed benzyl chloride was largely retained in the blood and some of it (0.22 ug/g) was sequestered into …

Jets issued from an array of five nozzles 6.35 mm (0.25 in.) in diameter. The ratio of nozzle center-to-center distance to the nozzle diameter, given by C_n/D, of 2, 3 and 4 were considered. The special feature of the system is the computer controlled digitizing rate and coordinated subject pitch prompting. Tokens of steady state laryngeal vibration are obtained from an electroglottograph when the subject intones a series of computer prompted pitchs in a musically scalar sequence. This thesis comprises an overall review of general methods of training used by two New Jersey oil refineries of similar circumstances to Ecuador's Esmeraldas oil refinery.

The method of research was a survey in the form of a questionnaire. It was sent to the five existing oil refineries across New Jersey. Statewide telephone conversations, and with Ecuadorian personnel executives were made to request pertinent information. Research from current journals, training books, and first hand data from refineries, support the recommendations and the study in general.
