Traditionally, most spelling curricula includes the routine of introduction, practice, and testing of a weekly spelling lesson. This mundane repetition need not become a nemesis. The following spelling curriculum is a utilitarian approach to a spelling curriculum for the future. With this utilitarian approach, it can be made to enhance other work being performed in the classroom, making all experiences valuable in meaning other than learning a group of predetermined words chosen at random.

A study has been completed which quantifies the amount of misregistration allowable on a continuous tone multi-color image. By the use of color separation filters and a misregistration device, the actual threshold limits of registration have been derived for each individual color. The correlation between the subjective, visual impression, and the actual numerical quantity have been examined. As a result the specific threshold limits have been determined and can be used for any continuous tone imaging application.

A magnetically rotating electric arc of coaxial design was produced in argon with and without zinc at 1 atm. The arc was characterized in terms of temperature by varying the source conditions. The axial temperatures decreased with distance from the cathode tip and the distribution was mathematically described by T = m * log (x) + b. The radial temperature distribution between the cathode and anode was determined by spectral analysis. The most homogeneous conditions with an argon/zinc plasma varied by approximately 4 % and could be applied in spectrochemical analysis. A steady state condition in terms of the frequency …

Vector quantization (VQ) has recently emerged as a powerful and efficient technique for digital speech and image coding. The goal of such a process is data compression: to minimize communication channel capacity or digital storage memory requirements while maintaining an acceptable fidelity level of the data. A review of various VQ algorithms and their respective design considerations as applied to color images is given. Fidelity measurements and signal-to-noise ratio calculations are discussed. The Chor-Rivest cryptosystem is a public key cryptosystem first proposed by MIT cryptographers Ben Zion Chor and Ronald Rivest [Chor84]. More recently Chor has imple mented the cryptosystem as part of his doctoral thesis [Chor85]. Derived from the knapsack problem, this cryptosystem differs from earlier knapsack public key systems in that computa tions to create the knapsack are done over finite algebraic fields. Toxic metals are present in the environment and are known to be present in food. Selenium, which is considered an essential micronutrient, is recognized as a toxic metal at slightly higher concentrations. Arsenic is also recognized as a toxic metal. Selenium and Arsenic tend to accumulate in food, specifically fish and seafood.

Fifteen brands and types of tuna fish were analyzed for selenium using differential pulse cathodic stripping voltammetry. The cans with the high and low concentrations of selenium were analyzed for arsenic using differential pulse polarography. This study investigated the use of advisement programs in Missouri middle schools. A questionnaire was mailed to principals of 102 middle schools in Missouri. Of the 73 responses, 19 were from schools with an advisement program, five from schools which once had an advisement program, but no longer did, and 49 from schools which never had an advisement program.
