An instrumentation system has been designed to monitor feeding behavioral experiments on rats. This instrumentation system is capable of performing these experiments in an automated manner without any human intervention. It is capable of monitoring these experiments concurrently in six cages. It exhibits several features that make it more versatile than previous feeding & monitoring systems. It is also capable of storing the data generated on to a floppy disk and later printing out the data for analysis.

In the history of type design, two methods have been used to scale type-- to produce enlarged or reduced letterforms from a reference size. With original handcut fonts, designers performed optical scaling (scaling by eye) that varied the proportions of letterform features over a range of sizes in a nonlinear manner. That is, letterform feature proportions were size dependent. This was an entirely manual and intuitive process. This thesis deals with the development of a Visual Densitometer, for measuring transmission density, called a "Null-Balance Visual Densitometer". This is a simple instrument made using a calibrated continuous tone negative step wedge. It was used for measuring continuous tone reference patches as used for process control of color separations, in place of an electronic densitometer. The measurements were made by a comparison between the control step wedge and the samples in close proximity over a light table. It has been theorized that the less formal and penetrating a youngster's contact with the Juvenile Justice System, the smaller his or her likelihood of continued delinquency. Based on this premise, known as labeling theory, the Juvenile Court of St. Charles County established several "diversion " programs to curb delinquent conduct among juvenile offenders.

This thesis was an in-depth study of these programs' effects on recidivism rates among juvenile delinquents. A brief description of statistical and syntactic pattern matching techniques is presented with an emphasis on statistical techniques. The characteristics of the Telugu script are described. A subset of 16 characters, which are both easy and hard to recognize, is selected for the dictionary of standard characters. A weighted linear difference polynomial of features is used to recognize Telugu characters. The features were Fourier descriptors of projection profiles and cross sections taken in various directions. This research project consisted of seven case studies of obese women who sought treatment for their weight problems at a hospital weight loss clinic and fitness center. The purpose of these studies was to consider the extent to which heredity and /or environmental factors contributed to these subjects being overweight. The case studies suggested that six of the subjects' overweight. problems were mainly caused by environmental factors. It was determined that one subject was overweight largely due to genetic predisposition, but that environmental factors also played a role. The exhibition in the Hendren Gallery, March 22- April 3, 1987, presented thirty-two works of art completed during the course of my graduate studies, which represented the full spectrum of my body of work.
