Psychophysics Of The Measurement Of The Distance Between Two Negative Ticks, Two Positive Ticks, And Two Edges, Alan Coble
Theses
The research that has been done deals with the increase in the precision of measurement under low magnification. There were four factors used in the field of view of a microscope to attempt an increase in precision. The factors were 10X and 20X magnifications, light intensities, and Kodak Wratten filters Nos. 58 and 45A. The precision of measurement was increased in the positive ticks and edges with factors other than high magnification.
Increased Image Resolution And Film Efficiency Via Vacuum Platens And Other Mechanical Devices, James A. Ruffing
Increased Image Resolution And Film Efficiency Via Vacuum Platens And Other Mechanical Devices, James A. Ruffing
Theses
With an appropriate lens, focusing arrangement, film and processing, motor driven 35mm cameras will attain resolutions of hundreds of line pairs per millimeter. The combination of a narrow depth of focus, unusually thin films, a relatively large film gate and rapidly advancing films can produce imagery with less than optimum resolution across or within individual frames. A vacuum platen and an additional styrene pressure plate were fitted to a motorized 35mm camera in an effort to insure the film lies flat. Continuous vacuum pulling mechanisms, suction and induction, were evaluated. Each system's simplicity, portability and statistically analyzed imagery were assessed. …

Halftone Dot Method For Image Evaluation Of High-Resolution Films Applied To Vesicular Film, Mark Gulden
Halftone Dot Method For Image Evaluation Of High-Resolution Films Applied To Vesicular Film, Mark Gulden
Theses
A feasible technique for deriving the spread function and modulation transfer function of a vesicular film has been determined. This technique is based on a method described by R. Byer which does not require the use of a microdensitometer, but only that of a "macro" densitometer. The method utilizes the fact that a halftone dot will change in size as a function of exposure. The spread function of the vesicular film was approximated with a mathematical model. The results, although favorable in many ways, are not conclusive. Some of the advantages and disadvantages associated with this technique as applied to …
Effect Of Iodide On Absorption Spectra For Dyes Adsorbed To Silver Halide Substrates, Mark Hinz
Effect Of Iodide On Absorption Spectra For Dyes Adsorbed To Silver Halide Substrates, Mark Hinz
Theses
The effects due to iodide in a silver bromide octahedral crystal on the absorption spectra of adsorbed 3,3'-Diethyl-9- Methylthiacarbocyanine and 5,5'-Dichloro-3,3',9- Triethylthiacarbocyanine were investigated. It was found that iodide encouraged Ja-band aggragation for 5,5'-Dichloro-3,3;9-Triethylthiacarbocyanine but not for 3,3’-Diethyl-9-Methylthiacarbocyanine. The suggestion is made that iodide is acting as nucleation centers for 5,5'-Dichloro-3,3',9-Triethylthiacarbocyanine.

Design, Construction, And Verification Of A Photographic Color Paper Sensitometer, Daniel Marc Denkin
Design, Construction, And Verification Of A Photographic Color Paper Sensitometer, Daniel Marc Denkin
Theses
The thesis problem is to produce a sensitometer to expose photographic color paper to be used as control strips in a photographic color paper process. This problem involves designing, constructing, and verifying the sensitometer. Designing the sensitometer is done by looking at different methods of exposing each dye layer of a photographic color paper. These methods include: fiber optics or light guides, light integrating devices, and projection systems. The method which was chosen for this experiment is the projection system. After the method had been decided upon, a lamp model will be calculated using the spectral sensitivity curve of a …

A Microprocessor Based Control System For An Electric Vehicle, Ronald C. Moffatt
Theses
The control system described in this thesis is a low cost system designed to control the speed of an electric vehicle by adjusting the speed of a compound wound DC motor. The speed control method developed in this system is a combination of battery tapping, for control of the armature voltage, and pulse width modulation for field control; both generated by a microprocessor. Using a microprocessor, the control system is readily adaptable to a variety of motor voltages and motor control techniques by modifying the internal firmware of the processor. Overcurrent protection is included to prolong battery and motor life. …

A Study On The Improvement Of Rop Newspaper Color Through Modification Of The Reproductive Curve To Lighten The Overall Reproduction, Ronald Assoian
A Study On The Improvement Of Rop Newspaper Color Through Modification Of The Reproductive Curve To Lighten The Overall Reproduction, Ronald Assoian
Theses
Most run on paper offset newspapers have not shown the capability of producing color reproductions without having the prints subject to a darkening or a muddy look. This problem is basically caused by the absorbency of the newsprint. Since the newsprint is so absorbent, the ink can only be printed to a low solid ink density and coarse screens must be used so the dots do not fill-in. To eliminate this problem, it is believed that if the midtones are reduced on the gray scale during the separation process, and then the wanted colors' dot areas are restored to their …
A Colorimetric Investigation Of Color Tolerances, Scott Stamm
A Colorimetric Investigation Of Color Tolerances, Scott Stamm
Theses
The study was conducted to determine the relationships between a standard color and its visually chosen limits. Commonly, limits or tolerances are communicated to printers using an Allen Tolerance Chart. The Allen Chart, used extensively by package printers, provides a standard of the color to be reproduced along with corresponding light and dark limits. A second form of tolerance chart, used by printers of U. S. Department of Transportation hazardous materials warning labels, provides limits for colors three dimensionally. Both types of tolerance charts were used in this study. Three Department of Transportation tolerance charts were measured spectrophotometrically producing a …

Therapeutic Use Of The Mandala, Laura Rienè
Therapeutic Use Of The Mandala, Laura Rienè
Theses
The thesis "Therapeutic Use of the Mandala" explores the application of mandalas in art therapy, hypnosis, and counseling psychology. It examines the mandala’s historical and cross-cultural significance, tracing its use in meditation, healing, and self-integration across Buddhist, Jungian, and indigenous traditions. The study outlines a structured therapeutic process, which includes relaxation, guided visualization, and spontaneous drawing to access subconscious emotions and promote psychological healing.
A central theme of the research is the mandala’s role as a visual tool for emotional release and self-discovery. The thesis argues that creating mandalas allows individuals to externalize unresolved emotions, providing insight into …
The Missouri Public Service Commission Public Relations Program, Magnolia Wilkinson
The Missouri Public Service Commission Public Relations Program, Magnolia Wilkinson
Theses
This thesis presents a comprehensive study of the Missouri Public Service Commission (PSC) and proposes a targeted public relations program to enhance its public image and communication effectiveness. The author, Magnolia Wilkinson—serving as Director of the St. Louis Consumer Service Office—draws on firsthand experience, interviews, and research to analyze the dual-role conflict within the PSC: protecting consumers from unfair utility practices while ensuring fair profits for utility companies.
The study explores how public misconceptions and political influences have shaped the PSC’s public profile, especially during periods of rising utility costs and rate hikes. Detailed historical analysis from the inception of …

Image Deblurring Using Lensless Fourier Transform Holography, Gregory Mccoy
Image Deblurring Using Lensless Fourier Transform Holography, Gregory Mccoy
Theses
Using lensless Fourier transform holography the problem of deblurring an out-of-focus image on a photographic transparency was studied. First a lensless Fourier transform hologram of an out-of-focus image was taken using a point reference source. By replacing this hologram into the recording plane and re-illuminating it with coherent light, the imaging wave transmitted through the hologram immediately gives, by Fourier transformation, the restored, deblurred image. A bar target was photographed out-of-focus, and using this method, with subjective analysis at 95% confidence, the deblurred image was judged better than the original. This method of image deblurring does indeed work, but the …
Design Considerations For A General Purpose Sensitometer, Robert Goldy
Design Considerations For A General Purpose Sensitometer, Robert Goldy
Theses
A Kodak model 101 sensitometer has been improved from the original design and is now able to follow A. N.S.I, standards for exposure of almost all sensitized products. Improvements made on the machine include the addition of an electromagnetic actuated shutter that is timed by an accurate integrated circuit timer that has the capability of six exposure times ranging from 1/100 sec. to 1 sec. This replaces a sector shutter that was motor driven and timed by a mechanical method. Simplicity of use has been maintained since the only new controls are a set of pushbutton switches to select the …

The Measurement Of Rms Granularity Of Black And White Photographic Materials Using A Visual Comparison Technique, Jack C. Smith
The Measurement Of Rms Granularity Of Black And White Photographic Materials Using A Visual Comparison Technique, Jack C. Smith
Theses
A method is described for measuring the RMS granularity of black and white photographic materials at a diffuse density of 1.0 using a visual comparison technique. A set of standard granularity patches was prepared for use with a comparison microscope. Samples with known values of RMS granularity were evaluated by observers and it was found that the observer -measured values of granularity correlated well with the actual values of granularity. Some discrepancies from the expected relationship between observer-measured values and actual values are discussed.
