Personality And Mysticism: An Experimental Design, Deborah Marie Ellison-Rogers Jan 1982

Personality And Mysticism: An Experimental Design, Deborah Marie Ellison-Rogers

Theses

This research investigates the relationship between personality as measured by the Singer-Loomis Inventory of Personality and the quantity of mystical experiences as measured by the Mysticism Scale. A review of the literature shows that introverts have more awareness of the archetypes and the archetypes often appear in mystical experiences. Awareness of mystical experiences is precisely what the Mysticism Scale measures.

The results were largely insignificant . However, there was a definite skew toward introversion in samples for both the pilot project and the research project . It is felt that this skew is a function of the choice of populations …

Following this, an evaluation of the pediatric clinic's geographic and financial accessibility, as perceived by the users, was done one year after starting the pediatric service. Analysis of demographic data obtained for the profile showed no significant differences between mothers …

Obstetrical Anesthesia Curriculum Project, Margaret A. Wittman Jan 1982

Obstetrical Anesthesia Curriculum Project, Margaret A. Wittman

Theses

The project idea stems from my work as a clinical instructor in nurse anesthesia. I have noticed that there is a great disparity between the didactic work done in the classroom and the clinical work done in the operating rooms. Instead of applying the classroom material to the actual case work, thereby making it important and meaningful to the student, the link between the two areas is virtually ignored. The aim in developing my project is to remedy this situation. In designing a curriculum for obstetrical anesthesia, I will attempt to utilize teaching methodologies which will not encourage rote memorization …

The Law And The Nurse Anesthetist, Beverly Ann Krause

Theses

Should the surgeon, as "captain of the ship", be liable for the negligent acts of the Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist? The Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist is a highly skilled and educated nurse and is far more informed about anesthesia than the surgeon . The surgeons resent this needless liability , and because of this, the use of Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists to administer anesthetics might decrease.

To prove that the hypothesis was correct, several methods of research were done . A content analysis showed that the courts are divided on their decisions. There have been many decisions absolving the surgeon …

"A Case for Family Therapy for Low-Income Families" explores the challenges faced by low-income families in accessing mental health services, particularly family therapy, and presents a model for addressing these challenges. The thesis begins by examining the relationship between social class and mental illness, noting that lower-income individuals face greater barriers to mental health care while also experiencing higher rates of mental illness. These barriers include logistical issues such as transportation, financial constraints, and scheduling conflicts, as well as systemic biases in the mental health delivery system that make it difficult for low-income families to access appropriate care.

Adoptees' Perception Of Their Biological Parents' Characteristics, Jo Anne C. Rocklage Sep 1981

Adoptees' Perception Of Their Biological Parents' Characteristics, Jo Anne C. Rocklage

Theses

The thesis, Adoptees' Perception of Their Biological Parents' Characteristics by Jo Anne C. Rocklage, explores how adoptees perceive and project attributes onto their biological parents in the absence of direct knowledge. The study acknowledges the complex emotional and psychological experiences of adoptees, including issues of identity, self-concept, and the desire to search for their origins. It reviews adoption literature, including the "Adoption Triangle" framework, which examines the relationships among adoptees, biological parents, and adoptive parents. The thesis also discusses psychological concepts such as the "family romance game," in which adoptees construct imagined narratives about their origins.

To investigate these perceptions, …

United States V. Western Europe : A Comparative Study Of Safeguarding Practice Against Hazards At The Point Of Operation In Metal Forming Systems, Jeffrey Joseph Schwalje

Theses

The problem of assuring safety for the worker at the point of operation of a metal stamping system is complex by virtue of the multiplicity of combinations possible between all conceivable dies and a press of suitable capacity.

The means of providing safeguarding prescriptions is further compounded by maintaining a viable means to enforce the safety regulations as demanded by law.

A comparative study of the approach to this problem was made between the practices in the United States with that of Great Britain, France and West Germany.

This was accomplished through the study of the available standards, codes and …

Control Of Construction Costs During Construction, David H. Foo May 1981

Control Of Construction Costs During Construction, David H. Foo

Theses

The construction of a major project requires a vast amount of time, money, material and human resources. Proper coordination of these elements into an array of activities is crutial to the success of the project if it is to be built on time and within budget. Art Therapy As A Means Of Ego Enhancement For Severely And Profoundly Mentally Retardedk, Kimberly Riemer

Theses

Kimberly Riemer’s thesis, Art Therapy as a Means of Ego Enhancement for the Severely and Profoundly Mentally Retarded (1981), explores the impact of art therapy on individuals with severe and profound mental retardation. The study was conducted as part of a six-month practicum, during which Riemer worked with both children and adults in a specialized educational and vocational setting.

Drawing from psychological theories, particularly those of Erik Erikson, Riemer argues that ego development is crucial for mentally retarded individuals. She hypothesizes that if art therapy can aid emotionally disturbed individuals, it should also benefit those with cognitive impairments. Through structured …

The Effects Of Training Parents In Divergent Questioning On The Creativity Of The Pre-School Child, Judith E. Brown May 1981

The Effects Of Training Parents In Divergent Questioning On The Creativity Of The Pre-School Child, Judith E. Brown

Theses

This study was designed to investigate whether teaching mothers to ask divergent questions would have a direct effect on their four year old child 's creativity. It was hypothesized that children whose mothers received the training in divergent questioning techniques would do better on a test of creativity than children whose mothers, did not receive the training.

Twenty mother and child groups were included in the study. The twenty were divided randomly into two groups, ten groups to receive the treatment and ten to receive no treatment. Six treatment sheets were then administered in the homes to the experimental group …

A Humanistic/Existential Approach To A Universal Symbol, Linda Sweeney May 1981

A Humanistic/Existential Approach To A Universal Symbol, Linda Sweeney

Theses

This paper explores the therapeutic potential of the universal heart symbol in the context of humanistic–existential art therapy. The author situates the work within a tradition that emphasizes creativity, spirituality, and the search for meaning, presenting the heart as a transcultural and archetypal image capable of guiding clients toward self-discovery. Unlike symptom-focused or diagnostic approaches, this perspective underscores the transformative role of symbols and imagery in facilitating psychological growth and healing.

The heart, as both biological organ and cultural metaphor, is shown to occupy a central place in human imagination and artistic expression. Across history and across cultures, it has …

Bibliotherapy To Help Young Children Cope With Their Problems, Marjorie J. Semon Apr 1981

Bibliotherapy To Help Young Children Cope With Their Problems, Marjorie J. Semon

Theses

Since children are facing many stresses both from within and without, it is felt that bibliotherapy may be a way of helping them face and cope with their problems. After a search to see if a curriculum guide had been developed to help kindergarten children through bibliotherapy, none was discovered. An extensive review of existing literature was then made to learn about children and stress at the pre-operational level, as well as an in-depth study of bibliotherapy from its history, research on bibliotherapy pertaining to young children, the qualifications of the bibliotherapist, how one determines whether the need exists, and …
