Mechanical Properties Of Polymeric Packaging Films After Radiation Sterilization, Viriya Pungthong Jan 1990

Mechanical Properties Of Polymeric Packaging Films After Radiation Sterilization, Viriya Pungthong

Theses

The use of radiation as a sterilization process is increasing. The well-developed technology of the radiation sterilization as applied to medical devices has assured the food industry that the process is reliable. Due to the food industry's possibility of widespread use, it is especially crucial that an appropriate packaging material be chosen so that its integrity is maintained after irradiation. This is because the commercial food packaging process carries products through more rigorous paths and channels than medical supplies. Many polymers used in the medical field show various degrees of degradation after radiation exposure, which can be determined either by …

Employer Supported Childcare, Mark James Winstel Dec 1989

Employer Supported Childcare, Mark James Winstel

Theses

One of the more progressive types of employee benefits a company can offer to its work force is that consisting of child care.

While more and more businesses are getting into the concern, still only 10% to 15% of all firms have such a package to give their employees. There appear to be many advantages to having a benefits offering. Studies have determined there would be a reduction in absenteeism and turnover, improved hiring and recruitment, and even better productivity, to name a few.

Today, the typical family of the male wage earner with spouse and kids at home has …

It was found that the conversion of chlorobenzene in hydrogen and oxygen mixtures increased with both temperature and residence time. The oxidation of chlorobenzene also occurred more rapidly when oxygen concentraction was …

Self-Efficacy And Motivation : An Unexplored Relationship, Elizabeth Angela Dixon Sep 1989

Self-Efficacy And Motivation : An Unexplored Relationship, Elizabeth Angela Dixon

Theses

There is a need for models of motivation which emphasize individual differences. Many studies cited in the literature indicate that differences in personality influence work performance, and the way individuals react to various job stimuli. As such, research efforts should be directed towards examining the interaction between specific personality traits such as self-efficacy and motivation. When studies of this nature are conducted, motivational strategies aimed at improving performance, can be designed with more attention to individual differences.

Liberation: Design That Liberates Rather Than Handicaps Us, M. Amelia Kennedy Jul 1989

Liberation: Design That Liberates Rather Than Handicaps Us, M. Amelia Kennedy

Theses

In my studies to become an industrial designer I have placed the strongest emphasis on two specific concerns: the design of products that support safe human activity (ergonomics), and the design of products that are accessible to physically impaired people. During this time I have been struck by the fact that these two concerns are always discussed separately, as if they had distinct applications in design that never related. The underlying assumption is that the general population and the the physically impaired are mutually exclusive groups. For this thesis project I set out to challenge that assumption by finding design …
