From Words To Form: Disability In Contemporary Italian And Italian American Literature, Arianna Salomon
From Words To Form: Disability In Contemporary Italian And Italian American Literature, Arianna Salomon
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
This dissertation traces nearly fifty years of representations of disability, understood as a cultural category, from the late 1970s to the early 2020s, in two interconnected traditions: Italian and Italian American literature. In particular, it explores how disability reshapes the act and aesthetics of writing in contemporary Italian and Italian American novels and memoirs. Given the field’s relative newness, the substantial groundwork still required, and the many connections between literature and disability, this dissertation uses nine case studies with a balanced pairing of Italian and Italian American works in each chapter: Carmelo Samonà’s Fratelli (1978) and Tina De Rosa’s Paper …

Purpose of review: This review critically evaluates the claim that etiology is not relevant to cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) for obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). Research on the clinical presentation and treatment outcomes associated with traumatic/stressor and biological etiologies is presented.
Recent findings: The extant literature demonstrates varying clinical utility across the reviewed etiologies. Traumatic/stressor etiologies show the most consistent and robust evidence of clinical utility, demonstrating compelling associations with clinical presentation and treatment outcomes, while also being amenable to existing evidence-based approaches. Medical conditions (e.g., Pediatric Acute onset Neuropsychiatric Syndrome) and neurobiological factors also demonstrate considerable associations with OCD presentation, yet …

Journal of Environmental Science and Sustainable Development
Agricultural land conversion (ALC) creates a dual sustainability challenge: the loss of productive farmland to urban expansion and the conversion of forested land into new agricultural areas. Farmland loss may reduce food production capacity, while forest conversion for agriculture may increase environmental degradation. These facts create a structural policy dilemma for Indonesia: safeguarding food security while simultaneously preventing deforestation. This study examines the patterns and drivers of land conversion in Indonesia over the past decade, with a focus on its implications for food security and deforestation. Using Indonesian Farmers Income Survey (Survei Pendapatan Petani, SPP) from 2004 (n …

Governance, Culture, And Law: The Expanding Scope Of Environmental Science And Sustainable Development Research, Ahyaudin Sodri, Herdis Herdiansyah
Journal of Environmental Science and Sustainable Development
Environmental science emerged as a discipline based on physical measurements, such as soil pollutant levels (Ailijiang et al., 2022), ecological restoration (Yue et al., 2026), city surface temperature (Shafizadeh-Moghadam et al., 2025), and microbial density in air samples (Hayleeyesus & Manaye, 2014). However, its objects of study increasingly extend beyond the confines of the laboratory. Questions that were once sufficiently answered with measurement data now require answers through draft laws, Constitutional Court decisions, financial reports of mining companies, and even traditional ritual discourses governing community access to forests. In other words, environmental …

Background: Schizophrenia is associated with an elevated cardiovascular disease burden and mortality. However, outcomes for patients with schizophrenia undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) remain poorly characterized. We investigated perioperative outcomes, resource utilization, and discharge disposition in this vulnerable population.
Methods: Using the National Inpatient Sample (2017-2020), we identified 773 925 adult CABG admissions, including 2250 patients with schizophrenia and 771 675 without. The primary outcome was in-hospital mortality. Secondary outcomes included length of stay, hospital charges, post-operative complications, and discharge disposition. Multivariable logistic and linear regression models were adjusted for demographics, comorbidities, and hospital characteristics.
Results: Patients with schizophrenia …

Background: Pharmacogenetic (PGx) testing could identify actionable drug-gene interactions, reducing the risks of inappropriate prescribing of certain medications in some patients. An area of growing public health concern is rising global rates of depression and antidepressant use over the last two decades. Prior research has elucidated perspectives of healthcare providers who prescribe antidepressants regarding the clinical utility of genetic information, including PGx testing, but there is a gap in understanding how individual perspectives and systemic contextual factors may combine to influence PGx testing adoption. Objective: The objective of this study was to elucidate combinations of individual and contextual …

The health and well-being of children are critical factors in their academic success and overall development. In our state, a significant percentage of families face barriers to accessing essential healthcare services, particularly among uninsured families, low-income populations, and migrants. North Carolina law mandates that children receive a health assessment, including hearing and vision screening, along with required immunizations, within twelve months before entering public school, or they may face expulsion. Many children, especially those from underserved communities, struggle to meet this requirement, jeopardizing their education and health. Recognizing these challenges, our School of Nursing Mobile Health Clinic worked with community …

Icu Nurses Knowledge, Attitudes, And Involvement In Clinical Research In Australia–A National Survey, Joanne Mcintyre, Frances Fengzhi Lin, Anne Mette Nørby Adams
International Nursing Research Congress (INRC)
Introduction: Clinical research is vital in critical care settings to support evidence-based care for patients. Studies have shown that hospitals involved in research have better outcomes, but the quality of the study is dependent on the multi-disciplinary team involvement, often including the engagement of nurses in clinical research protocol development and delivery. A recent literature review highlighted variable levels of nurses’ clinical research engagement with the need for targeted education, improved communication, and institutional backing, to ensure nurses better engage. However, despite international recognition of the issue, little is known about how Australian ICU nurses engage with clinical research.

The Need To Please: People-Pleasing Tendencies In Prelicensure Nursing Students, Alexa Grace Carnahan, Mary Kathryn Gaffney, Christian Blötner
International Nursing Research Congress (INRC)
Background: People-pleasing (PP) is a behavioral tendency characterized by an excessive desire to be liked, avoid conflict, or meet others' needs, often at the expense of one's own well-being. PP is linked with societal expectations of female-dominated professions like nursing, leading to normalization of self-sacrifice (Kaylor et al., 2025). PP is under-explored in prelicensure nursing students despite evidence linking similar behavioral patterns to negative outcomes including diminished resilience and burnout (Zhou et al., 2022); and emotional exhaustion, anxiety, and low self-worth (Georgescu & Bodislav, 2025). High performance expectations in prelicensure education likely reinforce PP behaviors (Li et al., 2025). The …

Jurnal Geografi Lingkungan Tropik (Journal of Geography of Tropical Environments)
Coastal cities in Southeast Asia face dual challenges of rapid urbanization and increasing climate pressures, demanding robust integration of risk assessment into spatial planning. This study assesses the vulnerability of Bandar Lampung City's coastal area to extreme waves and abrasion, analyzing implications for its spatial plan. Using a standard hazard index and a spatial overlay against the city's Regional Spatial Plan (RTRW), the research identifies a 'Medium' hazard classification across all four studied sub-districts. Crucially, this classification is not driven by significant hydrodynamic forces but is substantially amplified by anthropogenic vulnerabilities. A development-centric spatial policy has led to the dominance …

Through The Arena: A Marxist Strategic-Relational Perspective On East Asian Regional Trade Architecture, John H. Limaldi
Through The Arena: A Marxist Strategic-Relational Perspective On East Asian Regional Trade Architecture, John H. Limaldi
Journal of Critical Global Issues
This paper critically assesses the dominant regional trade architecture that impacts East Asia, focusing on the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) and its U.S.-bastardized version, the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP). Using a strategic-relational approach grounded in Marxist theory, the paper examines how these agreements impact the relationship between the Capitalist State and Capital. It argues that international economic architecture in the neoliberal era produces state effects that weaken national sovereignty to the benefit of capital and the detriment of labor. The paper concludes with recommendations for a new regional trade architecture that prioritizes labor rights, democratic accountability, and …
