An Assessment Of Residential Attitudes And Perceptions Towards Tourism In Ontario County, New York, Edwin Gomez
Theses
This study measured residential attitudes and perceptions in Ontario County, New York. The purpose for the study is to better understand residential concerns so that they may be incorporated into the planning process for future tourism development endeavors. These residential attitudes need to be identified with respect to preferences for more or less tourism. Planners can avoid residential road blocks to development if they know what concerns residents have towards tourism development. A brief history of modern travel was provided for the reader as a framework for understanding what developments led to potentials and problems in tourism today. The shift …

Recursive Soft Morphological Filters, Padmaja Puttagunta
Recursive Soft Morphological Filters, Padmaja Puttagunta
Theses
Mathematical morphology which is based on set-theoretic concept, extracts object features by choosing a suitable structuring shape as a probe. Morphological filters are set operations that transform an image into a quantitative description of its geometrical structure: Appropriately used, they can eliminate noises or irrelevancies while preserv¬ing the details of the original image. The applications of morphological filters in image processing and analysis are numerous, which include shape recognition, industrial parts inspection, nonlinear filtering, and biomedical image processing.
Soft morphological filters are used for smoothing signals with the advantage of being less sensitive to additive noises and to small variations …

The Suitability Of Polyethylene Terephthalate Copolyester For Radiation Sterilized Dry Small Volume Parenterals, Steven M. Drucker
The Suitability Of Polyethylene Terephthalate Copolyester For Radiation Sterilized Dry Small Volume Parenterals, Steven M. Drucker
Theses
Small volume parenterals (SVP) are typically terminally sterilized through autoclaving. This technique works when the containers are filled with a liquid. However, in the case of sterile powders, autoclaving is not a viable method nor is dry heat since most products can not withstand 2 50C for a half hour. Thus gamma irradiation may be an acceptable method to terminally sterilize this class of product. One of the drawbacks of gamma irradiation is that it will discolor glass which is currently the package material of choice due to superior barrier properties and relative inertness. This paper explores the possibility of …

Domestic Hub Airfares: An Analysis Of Domestic U.S. Passanger Airline Fares From The Consumer's Perspective, Robert I. Ward
Theses
Deregulation of the U.S. passenger airline industry has resulted in a few large carriers that have been successful in dominating the market, including dominance of selected routes originating from, or traveling through, key airports that have been designated as hubs. This investigation researched the simplified industry fares that were in place in the summer of 1992 and found that airfares for certain sub categories of industry routings were consistently above average industry fares. The implications of these findings are reducible to simple measures that are meaningful to the flying public.

Costume As Art, Gretchen Lapp Hamlin
Costume As Art, Gretchen Lapp Hamlin
Theses
Any given article of clothing can be seen as falling somewhere along a broad continuum that stretches between the completely functional and the completely decorative. On one end of the spectrum, utility dominates; military clothing, designed to promote uniformity and to maximize human performance, might define this extreme. On the opposite pole, function is totally disregarded in favor of pure adornment, even flamboyance - say, Carmen Miranda's hat.

The Impact Of Organizational Shape On The Intrinsic Job Satisfaction Of White-Collar Workers, Bernie L. Alexander
The Impact Of Organizational Shape On The Intrinsic Job Satisfaction Of White-Collar Workers, Bernie L. Alexander
Theses
This thesis focuses on the study of job satisfaction and the impact of organizational shape on the intrinsic job satisfaction of white-collar workers.
Research has attributed the decline in white-collar job satisfaction to such things as over-complex organizational structures, broad spans-of-control and job specialization.
The purpose of the present study is to investigate the possibility that, within a corporate setting, there is a difference between the intrinsic job satisfaction of white- collar workers who are employed by flat, decentralized organizations and those who work for tall, centralized organizations. Specifically, it is hypothesized that white- collar workers of flat, decentralized organizations …

Efficient Geographic Information Systems: Data Structures, Boolean Operations And Concurrency Control, James Sheng Min
Theses
Geographic Information Systems (GIS) are crucial to the ability of govern mental agencies and business to record, manage and analyze geographic data efficiently. They provide methods of analysis and simulation on geographic data that were previously infeasible using traditional hardcopy maps. Creation of realistic 3-D sceneries by overlaying satellite imagery over digital elevation models (DEM) was not possible using paper maps. Determination of suitable areas for construction that would have the fewest environmental impacts once required manual tracing of different map sets on mylar sheets; now it can be done in real time by GIS. Geographic information processing has significant …

Marketing And Feasibility Study For Launching A City/Regional Magazine In Rochester, New York, John K. Aizstrauts
Theses
A magazine's launch success and long-term survival depends on several key factors, among which are: 1. The presentation of valuable and/or interesting information to its target market audience. 2. Reaching the appropriate audience with that information. 3. Reaching a sufficiently large audience. 4. Attracting advertisers interested in the magazine's target audience. The four primary factors address the critical issues of finding a suitable marketing opportunity in terms of product and audience, as well as providing a viable medium with which advertisers can reach the same audience. Consequently, how well and quickly a magazine satisfies those factors will greatly influence its …
