A Petri Net Toolkit For Parallel Program Debugging, Potla Kishore Reddy Jan 1993

A Petri Net Toolkit For Parallel Program Debugging, Potla Kishore Reddy

Theses

An effective debugger must support the language and operating system resource abstractions that are available to the programmer. Earlier debuggers worked at the machine architecture level: they dealt with machine instructions and registers. Current debuggers, designed for single process debugging, permit access to program variables and breakpoints and single-stepping at the level of high-level language statements. Eventhough the current debuggers, are already implemented to be a powerful tool, they still cannot do a job of parallel debugger.

In this thesis, a computer simulation system has been established by Petri Nets execution providing a convenient and friendly interface as it allows …

Networking High-End Cad Systems Based On Pc/Ms-Dos Platforms, Dagmar Antje Brinkmann

Theses

The concept of today's technology has been dropped. Everything is now either oobsolete or experimental. Yesterday's technology is appealing only because it is tried-and-true and prices are reduced for clearance. Tomorrow's technology is exciting, somewhat expensive and not well tested.

In the field of architecture, where most firms are medium or small, having limited resources, the high cost initially required for a CAD installation was generally impossible to meet not too many years ago.

From spreadsheets and CAD graphics to network file systems and distributed database management, the basic systems and application tools have matured to the point that the …

The blood pressure drop and cardiac output decrease were considered in the simulation and the so called "set point temperature" was investigated in the model. Linear decrease …

Prelude To Teambuilding: The Nature Of Modernity, Fred Klein Jan 1993

Prelude To Teambuilding: The Nature Of Modernity, Fred Klein

Theses

Professional management defines itself by the particularistic (dominant) view that shapes the form and conduct of its activities. Modern management theory and practice is primarily the outcome of the greater espoused views of positivistic science. This has permeated a conscription to an attitude that is considered "factually" appropos to conduct research and inquiry. "Reality" has thus become categorized to derivatives of Newtonian science. While there is no disputation that this perspective and its conjointed methodology has a basis in the confluences that interact on materialistic reality (objective world), newer insights dispute its absolutistic form. The principle import of the newer …

Scooping The Kid's Market: Writing For Children In The Nineties, Judith Collins Jan 1993

Scooping The Kid's Market: Writing For Children In The Nineties, Judith Collins

Theses

Many people think writing for kids is simple. After all, what parent, grandparent or teacher has not picked up A Little ABC Book book and thought, "I can do better than this ! "

However, even though writing for kids in the 1990s is possible, exciting and fulfilling it 's not as easy as it looks. In addition to knowing how to write well , writing for kids today takes more commitment, ambition, creativity, sensitivity and expertise because kids are much more sophisticated than they were ten or twenty years ago.

And, because global information systems and mass media have …

A Family Study Of The Patriarchs: Abraham, Isaac, And Jacob, Yvonne A. Rosen

Theses

Outstanding among recurrent, connected themes revolving around the issue of the Blessing for the Patriarchal succession are the complementary rival roles of sons, modeled on the mythical motif of Cain and Abel; the favoring of the younger son; the barrenness of the Matriarchs; and the conflicted nature of marital relationships in a patriarchal system that included matriarchal elements tending to social equality alongside the institution of concubinage with its fundamental psycho-sexual Inequality. Abandonment of primogeniture paralleled separation from polytheistic culture; and the personalities of the Patriarchs constituted !deal types toward which the emergent community moved. Roles were assigned and maintained …

In Search Of A Miracle: A Journey Through Religious Addiction In America, William R. Leonard

Theses

This project examines the power of religious addiction and addiction in general. Statistics show that addiction, in some form, effects over 95% of the population and has silently become one of the largest and most pressing social dilemmas of our time.

The research of modern behavioral specialists like Diane Fassel and Sharon Wegscheider-Cruse supports this conclusion. Anne Wilson Schaef, a leading researcher into addiction and author of When Society Becomes An Addict, argues that the context of our society is the fact that the entire system in which we live is an "Addictive System." Schaef describes this deadly system as …

Retrieval From An Image Knowledge Base, James Janicki Jan 1993

Retrieval From An Image Knowledge Base, James Janicki

Theses

With advances in computer technology, images and image databases are becoming increasingly important. Retrievals of images in current image database systems have been designed using keyword searches. These carefully designed and handcrafted systems are very efficient given the application domain they are built for. Unfortunately, they are not adaptable to other domains, not expandable for other uses of the existing information and are not very forgiving to their users. The appearance of full-text search provides for a more general search given textual documents. However, pictorial images contain a vast amount of information that is difficult to catalog in a general …

Quantitative Assessment Of Myocardial Oxygen Supply And Demand Using A Dynamic Model Of The Cardiovascular System, Badrinath R. Puranic

Theses

A quantitative understanding of the changes in coronary, pulmonary and systemic hemodynamic variables and their effect on myocardial supply and demand is important to the better management of anesthetic care of patients with impaired cardiac function. Animal studies have identified those hemodynamic factors that play an important role in determining the balance between oxygen supply and demand for the myocardium. These include myocardial contractility, left ventricular end-diastolic volume, systemic arterial pressure, systemic vascular resistance, and heart rate. The interactions of these factors are complex and their combined effects on myocardial oxygen supply and demand are difficult to predict a priori. …

The Acoustic Properties Of Human Femoral Bone, Mark Lacianca

Theses

Over the last decade, interest has grown in the use of the scanning acoustic microscope (SAM), with a single lens being used for both transmitting and receiving the acoustic signal. A major objective of this thesis was to determine if the transmission and ultrasonic techniques yield similar "quantitative" results, when measuring the elastic constants of human femoral bone. The transmission technique has been used since 1970 to yield values for the elastic properties of calcified tissue. Previously the SAM has been used as a qualitative tool, where an acoustic impedance map is produced. This map can show areas of bone …
