OBJECTIVE: To document the frequency of the ABO and Rhesus blood groups in Saudi male donors, and to compare our results with the results of other studies in the Kingdom and elsewhere. METHODS: This study included a total of 57396 male potential blood donors; 19496 blood donors between the years 1985-1989 (referred to as first period of study) and 37700 blood donors between the years 1995-1999 (2nd period). The aim of this study is to determine the prevalence of this infection among patients undergoing endoscopy in Northern Jordan. OBJECTIVE: This research was aimed at describing the pattern of malignancies among 1,491 patients during 1996 through to 2000 and to explore association with age, sex and site of cancers. METHODS: A research was carried out at a Histopathology Center in Sana9a, Republic of Yemen between the period August 1996 through to August 2000. All specimens were diagnosed by one pathologist based on the International Classification of Disease for Oncology. OBJECTIVE: To study the serotype distribution of non-typhoidal salmonella isolated from clinical specimens and to evaluate their susceptibility patterns to the most commonly prescribed antimicrobial agents used in this region. METHODS: A retrospective study during the period 1993–1999 was carried out at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex Microbiology Laboratory, a teaching hospital in the northwestern part of Trinidad. Strains of non-typhoidal salmonella were serogrouped with polyvalent Salmonella O antiserum and sent to the local Public Health Laboratory for confirmation and further serotyping. A major debate is currently taking place on the world diabetes scene on the merits of fasting versus 2-hour postprandial glucose concentrations as a reference point for the diagnosis of diabetes. Other time points of the oral glucose tolerance test on the other hand, seem to attract little attention. In Saudi Arabia however, we have been intrigued by the scale and severity of hyperglycemia observed at one-hour following glucose load. OBJECTIVE: To study the susceptibility pattern of candida species isolated from various clinical specimens to common usable antifungals in Libya. METHODS: Two hundred and four candida species were isolated from patients complaining of fungal infections gathered from vaginal swabs, nails, throat, hair and ear. Yeast isolates were identified to the species level by API 20C AUX Commercial system. The in vitro susceptibility to amphotericin B, nystatin, ketoconazole, miconazole, clotrimazole and econazole was determined using the macrodilution in broth method. OBJECTIVE: To study the frequency of teenage pregnancy and its complications as compared to controls. METHODS: A retrospective case record analysis of 2522 pregnancies, aged below 25 years was carried out, in the Department of Obstetrics, Riyadh Armed Forces Hospital during the period 1 January 1999 to 31st December 1999. RESULTS: The incidence of teenage pregnancy for 1999 was 6%. Three hundred and eighty five (76%) were carrying their first pregnancy while 42 (8%) mothers had 2 or more previous pregnancies and deliveries. OBJECTIVE: To provide normative data on maximal cardiorespiratory function for healthy Saudi boys between the ages of 7-15 years. METHODS: One hundred and thirty-seven Saudi boys from nearby schools in Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, participated in this study. Cardiorespiratory measurements were obtained during graded treadmill running until exhaustion. Gas exchange variables were assessed continuously throughout the test using open circuit spirometry. RESULTS: Normative values in the forms of means, standard deviation and percentiles were presented for 4 age groups. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the prevalence and pattern of antituberculous drug resistance and patients with pulmonary tuberculosis in the Eastern Province and its impact on the tuberculosis control program. METHODS: Patients with pulmonary tuberculosis, proven by culture, admitted to Dammam Chest Hospital from November 1993 through May 1996 were reviewed. OBJECTIVE: To assess the patterns and determinants of physical activity among Saudi adult males living in Riyadh. METHODS: Self-administered questionnaires were filled out by 1333 randomly selected Saudi males 19 years and older, during the Fall of 1996. RESULTS: Over 53% of Saudi males were totally physically inactive, and another 27.5% were irregularly active. Only 19% of the entire sample were active on a regular basis. A curvilinear relationship was found between age and inactivity, with the middle age group the least active. An Omani infant boy with severe physical and psychomotor retardation, facial dysmorphism, and anomalies of the cardiovascular and genito-urinary systems is described. The chromosomal analysis revealed a 46, XY, r (13) (p11;q34) karyotype. The cytogenetic basis of this rare abnormality is outlined and phenotypic features are compared with published reports.

Although attention deficit hyperactivity disorder is a common child psychiatric disorder, the epidemiology and pathophysiology of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder is variable in different studies. Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and comorbid disorders in children aided both by attention deficit hyperactivity disorder diagnostic criteria and assessment scales entails a comprehensive neuropsychiatric interview plus collection of information from different sources. Although psychosocial and behavioral therapies are of great therapeutic values, the psychopharmacological drugs are often used in the treatment of patients with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.
