Locus Of Control And Levels Of Moral Reasoning Related To Changes In Moral Reasoning Under Coercion, Jane K. Carey
Locus Of Control And Levels Of Moral Reasoning Related To Changes In Moral Reasoning Under Coercion, Jane K. Carey
Open Access Dissertations
The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship of levels of moral reasoning and of locus of control to changes in moral reasoning in a situation where external pressure is present. It was hypothesized that changes in moral reasoning would be toward higher levels of reasoning. A second hypothesis was that a person's locus of control related to that person's resistance to change moral reasoning in a situation where pressure to change that reasoning was exerted.
Subjects in the study were 88 students at a large New England community college. At pre-test sessions an original large sample of …

The Relationship Between Children’S Observation Of Marital Discord And Play Behavior In A Non-Clinical Sample, Dorothy Bohn Clement
The Relationship Between Children’S Observation Of Marital Discord And Play Behavior In A Non-Clinical Sample, Dorothy Bohn Clement
Open Access Dissertations
The present investigation examined the relationship between children's exposure to low to moderate rates of marital discord in the familial environment and their behavior in settings external to the home as assessed by adult raters and direct observations. Sixty children (36 males, 24 females) between the ages of 6 and 13 years were estudied over the course of 3 months. Results of a multi-step analysis indicated that there was a highly significant relationship among females of low SES status between exposure to marital discord at home and being the object of peer aggression during free play activity. A significant relationship …

A Comparison Of Several Component Matching Indices: A Simulation Study, Edward Guadagnoli
A Comparison Of Several Component Matching Indices: A Simulation Study, Edward Guadagnoli
Open Access Dissertations
Researchers who employ multivariate techniques often wish to compare solutions obtained from two independent studies. When factor analysis or component analysis procedures are employed, pattern matrices are compared, In the present study, the matching performance of several component matching indices, coefficient of congruence(c), s – statistic (i), Pearson r (r), and kappa (k), were compared under a variety of experimental conditions. Independent variables manipulated were (1) component saturation or size of component loadings, (2) sample size, (3) the number of variables, and (4) the number of components. Five sample component patterns were computer generated and matched, …

Rehabilitation And Psychological Evaluations Of Claimants Of Portuguese And Puerto Rican Background, Rui R. Rodrigues
Rehabilitation And Psychological Evaluations Of Claimants Of Portuguese And Puerto Rican Background, Rui R. Rodrigues
Open Access Dissertations
This study outlines specific steps for guiding bilingual psychologists in the administration of psychological testing instruments. The study delineates the discrimination of subtle behavioral responses, the identification of various forms of low motivation, evasiveness, and malingering during the assessment procedure.
One hundred disability immigrant claimants of Portuguese and Puerto Rican background took part in this study. Data on file from their psychological reports was analyzed and two hypotheses were tested. The findings indicate that there is a strong relationship between the subjects' cognitive functioning, their adaptive behavior, and academic achievement in their native countries. There was also a significant relationship …
Biological And Environmental Influences On The Cognitive Development Of Children With Developmental Disabilities, Ruth H. Schennum
Biological And Environmental Influences On The Cognitive Development Of Children With Developmental Disabilities, Ruth H. Schennum
Open Access Dissertations
The biological and environmental influences on sensorimotor/cognitive development were studied. Participants were 100 children with developmental disabilities between the ages of 2 and 28 months and their families. Scores from the Rochester Research Obstetric Scale (ROS), Pediatric Complications Scale (PdCS), and Home Observation for the Measurement of the Environment (HOME) were used as independent variables in a multiple regression analysis. The dependent variable was the Mental Development Index (MDI) from the Bayley Scales of Infant Development. Results indicate there is a significant, but moderate relationship between the independent and dependent variables. Very little overlap was found among the independent variables. …
The Relative Contribution Of Social/Cognitive Processes To Social Competence, Diane Marques
The Relative Contribution Of Social/Cognitive Processes To Social Competence, Diane Marques
Open Access Dissertations
In the present study, the relationship of linguistic achievement, social problem-solving and empathy to social competence as validated by teachers, peers and self was explored. It was hypothesized that these three developmental processes would be significant predictors of social competence, and that their relative orders of contribution would differ across competence indicators. The subjects in this study were 102 third grade students. After parental consents were obtained, five pencil and paper measures were administered to the students using a group testing format in two sessions. These measures examined language achievement, social problem-solving, empathy, a peer rating of other classmates and …

Five computer programs that perform Box and Jenkins (1970) ARIMA model interrupted time series analysis, i.e., TSX, GENTS, SAS, BMDP, and ITSE, were evaluated both qualitatively and quantitatively. The qualitative evaluation reviewed their documentation and computational features. The quantitative evaluation was performed by comparing analysis results (estimates of the minimum residual error variance and the intervention parameters) for 10 replications each of 44 simulated time series. The 44 series include 11 different ARIMA models and degrees of dependency; by two forms of intervention, i.e., 1) level (L) and change in level (DL) alone, and 2) …
Familial And Behavioral Correlates Of Late Adolescent Individuation, George D. Bozicas
Familial And Behavioral Correlates Of Late Adolescent Individuation, George D. Bozicas
Open Access Dissertations
The purpose of the present study was to develop and evaluate a model of the late adolescent individuation process. The model developed and subsequently tested incorporated familial, environmental and behavioral variables. Specifically, the family system's level of differentiation, the degree of triangulation between the late adolescent and his or her parents, and the late adolescent's year in college were examined as predictor variables in relation to the late adolescent's degree of individuation, degree of psychological distress, and achievement of relationship intimacy. In addition, the relationships between several specific family processes (e.g., family communication and family conflicts) and the achievement of …
Effect Of The Content Of Moral Dilemmas Upon Responses On The Defining Issues Test, Gail M. Lawson
Effect Of The Content Of Moral Dilemmas Upon Responses On The Defining Issues Test, Gail M. Lawson
Open Access Dissertations
This study investigates the "structured whole" hypothesis of cognitive-moral developmental theory which suggests that there is a general factor of moral stage crosscutting responses to all moral dilemmas which results in a stage-consistent pattern of responses on instruments assessing moral development. In order to assess the effect of the content of moral dilemmas the Defining Issues Test (DIT) was administered to 300 undergraduate students at a mid-sized state university. Results suggest that dilemmas differentially "pull for" or exclude certain levels of moral reasoning providing no support for the "structured whole" hypothesis of cognitive moral development theory. Additional research in the …
