Group Cohesiveness and Group Productivity

Cartwright and Zander (1953) distinguished at least three different meanings in their intuitive and operational descriptions of group cohesiveness: (a) attraction to the group, (b) morale, and (c) coordination of efforts of group members. Others have attempted to classify meanings of cohesiveness into two general categories. One category of definitions centers chiefly on particular aspects of group behavior or group process. Here, the meaning of cohesiveness refers to "sticking togetherness," productivity, task involvement and good team work. A common observation is that members of a cohesive group display a feeling of "we-ness" or "togetherness," meaning …

When the Revolutionary War began, the colonist were ill-prepared to meet the growing burden of financial stress in the newly formed Confederation. On Sunday morning, January 22, 1905, a crowd of workers marched through the streets of St. Petersburg, Russia. They were led by a Russian Orthodox priest, Father George Gapon, who had a petition to grievances to present to Czar Nicholas II. As they converged on the square in front of the Winter Palace, they were fired upon by the Imperial troops. The result was a complete military victory for the autocracy and a casualty rate among the petitioners that has caused the incident to go down in history as "Bloody Sunday."

The inside surface was heated by steam passing through the tube while the outer surface was cooled by water. Two temperature compensated strain gages were used to measure strains in the tangential and axial directions respectively. Genevieve Formation were studied megascopically in four quarries--Cave in Rock, Franklin, Three Rivers, and Fredonia Valley--within a small area of the Illinois-Kentucky fluorspar district and in a drill-core from the Cave in Rock Quarry. The rocks were studied microscopically in seventy-four thin sections prepared from samples from the quarries and the drill-core. The Ste. Genevieve Formation is typically an extremely oolitic, fragmentally fossiliferous limestone which is very light gray to white. "The Anderson Ridge quadrangle is comprised of folded and faulted schist intruded by granitic, pegmatitic and basic igneous bodies. A ground magnetic survey was conducted using a torsion balance Radar Magnetometer of 15.5 gammas sensitivity to measure the vertical intensity variations. The results are presented on eleven profiles with accompanying generalized geologic cross-sections, two magnetic contour maps of 50 gamma interval, one with traverse line geologic control, and the second controlled by a geologic map of the area. A clear relationship exists between the vertical magnetic intensity distribution pattern and the known areal geology.

The company detected what they believed to be a beta current when the ZrCl was bombarded with neutrons from a slightly enriched uranium source. Investigation using higher powered neutron sources revealed that such a current was highly improbable and the company incorrectly interpeted the phenomena. "The thermal conductivity of granular materials can be determined by the Thomas method. This method was used here to determine the effects of granular size on the thermal conductivity of sand. A river sand was secured and screened. The sand retained between the Tyler Standard Screen Scale, mesh 10 and 14, 14 and 28, 28 and 40, 40 and 48, 48 and 60, and below mesh 60, was used for tests.

The method is an extension of the application of the combining methods previously derived for viscosity predictions. Altogether, the published thermal conductivities of 683 binary non-polar mixtures at various temperature levels were compared with the corresponding calculated thermal conductivities resulting from the prediction method.
