Investigation Of Plastic Deformation In Prestressed Concrete Slabs From Long Time Loading, Joe B. Roberts
Investigation Of Plastic Deformation In Prestressed Concrete Slabs From Long Time Loading, Joe B. Roberts
Masters Theses
"It is the purpose of this research to investigate the creep in a thin concrete slab under a long-time prestress load with the compressive load being applied to the edge of the slab through a bearing plate of small dimensions.
Seven plain concrete slabs, 3' x 4' x 4", approximately one year old, made of normal cement and approved aggregate were subjected to the following loading conditions: (1) Three slabs loaded at the center of the greater dimension with a prestress load or 20,000 pounds applied over an area of eight square inches, (2) Three slabs loaded symmetrically at six …
Separation Of Iron-Tin Alloys Using Gas-Solid Reactions, Carl Richard Bieling
Separation Of Iron-Tin Alloys Using Gas-Solid Reactions, Carl Richard Bieling
Masters Theses
"For years it has been a problem to the tin smelting, plating, and detinning industries to be able to separate iron from tin once they were associated together as described above. Due to the lack of a tin smelter in the United States in the past, and the abundance of tin scrap available, which had little value either for the iron content or the tin content in their untreated state, most interest was concentrated on seeking methods of separating this tin scrap into its two useful components, iron and tin, rather than deal with the problems of smelting tin from …

Geology Of The Northwest Quarter Of The Washington Quadrangle, Missouri, James Anthony Martin
Geology Of The Northwest Quarter Of The Washington Quadrangle, Missouri, James Anthony Martin
Masters Theses
"This report presents the results of detailed mapping of the geology of the northwest quarter of the Washington Quadrangle, Missouri. Extensive mapping and stratigraphic work have been done in St. Louis and St. Charles Counties to the east and in Callaway and Boone Counties to the west. These two well studied areas are separated by approximately 45 miles. This study adds geologic information to the area immediately between the above locations. In this area a gentle regional dip to the north permits a study of sediments ranging in age from lower Ordovician in the south to late Paleozoic and Pleistocene …
Correlation Of Weir Crest Depth, Froude Number, H/P Ratio, Weir Thickness, Paul Harrawood
Correlation Of Weir Crest Depth, Froude Number, H/P Ratio, Weir Thickness, Paul Harrawood
Masters Theses
"1. The Froude number criterion for weir flow was shown to be sound and accurate by experimental verification of the theoretical correlation of Froude number and critical depth. It was proved that sub-critical, critical and super-critical flows are correctly identified by the Froude number.
2. In order to accurately determine the Froude number, the actual flow section at the weir crest must be known. Because of end contractions, it does not have the same dimensions as the weir opening. For the Cipoletti weir, it is the product of the length of the crest and the crest depth, i.e., A= by. …
An Investigation Of The Vocal Phonic Abilities Of Children With Normal Speech And Articulation Disorders, Orville Wilson Wensley
An Investigation Of The Vocal Phonic Abilities Of Children With Normal Speech And Articulation Disorders, Orville Wilson Wensley
Masters Theses
Introduction
Much of the recent literature dealing with the etiology and treatment of functional articulatory defects, has been concerned with perceptual aspects of the problem. Many clinicians feel that it is in the area of perceptual deficiences that most of the causes of articulatory defects occur, even though research does not support that opinion.

The Problem and Its Background
The Place of World History in Secondary Education
The study of world history has great significance in our secondary schools. In an age of persistent world crisis, the importance of the skills, information, and powers of analysis that may be acquired through the study of world history is deemed essential by many educators. The fact of its presence in the curriculum is in itself evidence that world history is considered important. In the most recent survey available from the United States Department of Health, Education, and Welfare
it was noted that world history is "quite …

Mechanical Vibration Of Vacuum Tubes, Jerry Dale Swearingen
Mechanical Vibration Of Vacuum Tubes, Jerry Dale Swearingen
Masters Theses
"Since the beginning of the art of vacuum tube building, vacuum tube engineers have been faced with many mechanical problems as well as electrical problems.
Early mechanical problems were comparatively small because most of the tubes were used in stationary apparatus where little or no vibration was envolved.
As time went on, vacuum tubes were placed in portable equipment and this useage established the need for a tube that was mechanically strong enough to give reliable electrical behavior where the tube was subjected to considerable vibration….
Recently it has been shown that vacuum tubes operating in the instrument cabins of …

Morphology And Systematic Position Of Some Anomalinid Foraminifera, Billy G. Deaver
Masters Theses
"Morphological studies of the following species are the basis for a partial revision of the Family Anomalinadae: Anomalina acuta Plummer, A. midwayensis (Plummer), A. pseudopapillosa Carsey, A. vulgaris (Plummer), Anomalinoides pinguis (Jennings), Cibicides alleni (Plummer), C. beaumontianus (d’Orbigny), c. harperi (Sandidge), Cibicidina danvillensis (Howe and Wallace), Planulina correcta (Carsey), and P. dumblei (Applin); a description of Stensioina americana Cushman and Dorsey, discorbid foraminifer, is included for comparison. The classificatory position and incomplete content of the family are: Superfamily Discorbidea; Family Anomalinidae; Subfamily Anomalininae (revised) -- with ventral supplementary apertures: Anomalina , Planulina ; Subfamily Cibicidinae -- with dorsal supplementary apertures: …
Addition Of Ketene To Ethylene Oxide, John Philip Friedrich
Addition Of Ketene To Ethylene Oxide, John Philip Friedrich
Masters Theses
"The object of this work was to study the reaction between ethylene oxide and ketene, and if possible, to isolate and identify the postulated γ-butyrolactone. Although the results could hardly be described as completely gratifying, they were at least in a sense positive. Many possibilities remain with regard to further modifications of the experimental work on this problem, however it is the author's sincere wish that this investigation will serve some useful purpose in the future"--Introduction, page 4.
The Preparation Of Titanium Tetrachloride From Rutile, Nalin Sen
The Preparation Of Titanium Tetrachloride From Rutile, Nalin Sen
Masters Theses
"In recent years, considerable interest has been shown in the manufacture of titanium metal because of its outstanding properties both physical and chemical. The commercial process for the preparation of metallic titanium, known as the Kroll process, consists essentially of the reduction of titanium tetrachloride with magnesium in an inert atmosphere to produce titanium metal with magnesium chloride as a by-product.
Since, titanium tetrachloride is the basic compound from which to prepare metallic titanium by the Kroll process, much thought has been given to the preparation of titanium tetrachloride from titanium ores such as rutile or ilmenite.
The present work …
