A Study Of The Structure Of Titanium Diffusion Coatings On Iron And Steel, Pao-Jen Chao
A Study Of The Structure Of Titanium Diffusion Coatings On Iron And Steel, Pao-Jen Chao
Masters Theses
"The Problem of the Thesis: A series of experiments have been made in the Metallurgical. Engineering Department of the Missouri School of Mines and Metallurgy for the investigation of titanium diffusion coatings. The technique of applying the titanium diffusion coatings on iron and steel is still in the experimental stage. A few of the physical properties and chemical compositions of such coatings have been determined, but the structures have not yet been extensively studied. As the correlations of the structures and the desirable properties are valuable for improving the quality or titanium diffusion coatings on iron and steel, an investigation …

Welfare Organizations Offering Assistance To Children Attending The Battle Creek Public Schools, Donald G. Whitmill
Masters Theses
As the concept of public education broadens, and as the importance of all experiences related to the formation of an individual's total self is realized, the public schools are seen in a new perspective. The public schools become one link, albeit an important link, in a complex, tightly interwoven chain of institutions, organizations, and individuals concerned with the education of the whole child.
The purpose of this study, therefore, is to compile a comprehensive listing of all agencies, institutions, and organizations offering assistance to children enrolled in the Battle Creek, Michigan, Public Schools. This study will make a brief statement …

The Problem and Its Background
The Scientific Movement in Education
It is a well-known fact that for several decades educators have been trying to place the educational profession on as scientific a basis as possible.1 One outgrowth of this effort has been the “educational measurement movement.” This movement has involved widespread attempts to use objective techniques in solving educational problems, objective measures in obtaining educational data, and to use the data thus obtained as a basis for organizing educational plans and procedures. The importance attached to this trend has led, in some cases, to an undue, and occasionally, distorted …
Investigation Of Soil Bricks As A Building Material, Ahmet Ilter
Investigation Of Soil Bricks As A Building Material, Ahmet Ilter
Masters Theses
"The need of a cheap construction material for small village farm construction in Turkey makes soil-cement a most desirable material. What is more, as far as the author knows, soil-cement has not found any application in farm house construction in Turkey as yet. So the author, being acquainted with his native country's house construction problem, and seeing the suitable application soil-cement have on such construction, came to the decision that he should investigate this problem thoroughly.
The main objective of the tests run in this investigation will be to find the strength of different samples of soil-cement. The stabilizer used …

The Velocity Of Ultrasonics In Liquids, Mack A. Breazeale
The Velocity Of Ultrasonics In Liquids, Mack A. Breazeale
Masters Theses
"In acoustics the term ultrasonics is used to refer to those frequencies which are above the range of human hearing; that is, frequencies above approximately 20,000 cycles per second. Since the laws of sound which are valid for the audible range are also valid in the ultrasonic range and since the wave length of ultrasonics is much shorter than that of audible sound, ultrasonic has proved very valuable in the calculation of both the velocity and the absorption coefficient of sound in various media. This is especially notable in the case of liquids, where the velocity of sound is much …
Geology Of The South Half Of The Meramec Spring Quadrangle, Missouri, Howard Joseph Yorston
Geology Of The South Half Of The Meramec Spring Quadrangle, Missouri, Howard Joseph Yorston
Masters Theses
"This report is a continuation of the work initiated by Mueller in his mapping of the north half of the Meramec Spring Quadrangle. The completion of this work provides not only a geologic map of the whole quadrangle but also completes the mapping of the geology of a strip of quadrangles extending from Rolla to the Mississippi River. In addition to being a step closer to the goal of complete geologic coverage for the state, this work will be of value to those concerned with the prediction of depths of wells drilled in search for water, which in view of …
A Fundamental Study Of Clay Drying Using Ware Of Large Cross Section, Robert F. Grady Iii
A Fundamental Study Of Clay Drying Using Ware Of Large Cross Section, Robert F. Grady Iii
Masters Theses
"The drying of clay has been studied extensively in the past by many investigators, some of whom attempted to relate this information to the structure of clay and thereby develop a more vivid picture, while others studied the mechanism of drying in its own right in order to present a useable theory that would allow improvements in the drying operation.
At present the literature is unable to present a theory of the mechanism of drying that is sufficiently general to cover the observed aspects of clay drying. Many and varied mechanisms are presented, but correlation is seldom completely evident between …
Testing Of Missouri Shales For Light Weight Aggregate Production, Jerry D. Plunkett
Testing Of Missouri Shales For Light Weight Aggregate Production, Jerry D. Plunkett
Masters Theses
"The original objective of this investigation was to determine by testing those clays, shales, and loesses occuring in Missouri in large deposits (over 15 feet in thickness with little overburden), which would be suitable for the production of light weight aggregate. The second objective was to investigate the mechanism of bloating as related to the physical and chemical properties of the above materials, and by using these relationships cause clays which do not naturally bloat, to bloat using some addition. The use of additives would permit the economical use of material closer to the market in many instances.
After the …

Effect Of Carbon Content In Steels Upon The Deposition Of Titanium From A Fused Salt Bath, Reinhard Paul Abendroth
Effect Of Carbon Content In Steels Upon The Deposition Of Titanium From A Fused Salt Bath, Reinhard Paul Abendroth
Masters Theses
"STATEMENT OF PROBLEM Previous work done at the Missouri School of Mines and Metallurgy on the deposition of titanium upon various metals, especially iron and steel, bas shown that titanium can be deposited upon ingot iron and. low carbon steels with comparitive ease. Difficulty was encountered in attempts to deposit titanium upon steels of higher carbon content and upon cast irons.
For this reason, it was decided to investigate more thoroughly the relationship between the carbon content of various steels and the quality of titanium coatings deposited on these steels. Once this relationship had been established, a suitable theoretical explanation …

Masters Theses
"The type locality of the Archusa marl member of the Wautubbee formation is situated south of Quitman, Clarke County, Mississippi. Stratigraphically, the unit falls within the middle Eocene Claiborne group, being roughly equivalent to the upper part of the Lisbon formation of Alabama and the lower part of the Cook Mountain. The marl falls within the Ostrea sellaefonnis zone and the zone of "Ceratobulimina eximia.” The type section consists of 48 feet of sandy marls, with a thin oyster bed near the middle.
The Archusa foraminifera fauna consists of 87 species and varieties, belonging to 49 genera and …
Mechanism And Measurement Of First Stage Graphitization In White Cast Iron, David S. Gould
Mechanism And Measurement Of First Stage Graphitization In White Cast Iron, David S. Gould
Masters Theses
"The original object of this thesis was to ascertain if coercive force measurements could be used for the determination of degree of malleablization in malleable iron. Since first stage graphitization was involved, it was only natural that an interest in the mechanism of first stage graphitization developed. The investigation which resulted from this interest was done primarily for the edification of the author, however it was subsequently deemed of enough importance to be included in this thesis. For this reason the thesis may appear at times to deviate from the original objective"--Preface, page iii.
