Buchwald and Yamaguchi (1955) used a reversal learning situation to test the hypothesis that increasing drive will impair performance when the strength of the correct response is relatively weak. Thirty-six rats on 1 1/2 and 20 1/2 hours water deprivation were trained in a single unit T maze with 4 trials per day. The Ss were randomly assigned to 4 groups: high-high, high-low, low-low, and low-high, "low" and "high" referring to drive level for origin l and reversal learning. Radioisotope tracer techniques were used to determine the self-diffusion coefficients of the ions of sodium, potassium, cesium, chloride, bromide, and iodide in 3% agar gel, and the self-diffusion coefficient of the sodium ion in gelatin-agar gels at differing pH values of the gel.

The coefficients in agar gels were found to be in agreement with the Nernst equation for the diffusion coefficients of ions in aqueous solution. 'l'he diffusion coefficients in gelatin-agar gels were found to be higher in the presence of non-active NaCl than in its absence. The value of the coefficient was lower at the isoelectric point of …

The primary objective of this study is to ascertain what part, if any, the prominent industrialists of Virginia, in the postwar-pretwentieth century period, played in the economic rejuvenation of a state that was ravaged for four years by invaders and defenders alike. Cognizant of the fact that Virginia industry after 1865 was attending a degree of diversification, nonetheless, this study will be limited to three primary industries, namely tobacco, flour and textiles.
