This study was undertaken to determine if there were osteological variations in the skulls of young summer flounders, Paralichthys dentatus (Linaeus), southern flounders, Paralichthys lethostigma Jordan and Gilbert and - gulf flounders, Paralichthys albigutta Jordan and Gilbert that could be used as bases of species separation. As two of the species (dentatus and lethostigma) are of considerable economic importance, it would be of substantial value to establish skeletal characters that would help identify the young and. subsequently aid in determining their particular habitats where they occur in the same area.The three are closely related and difficult to recognize unless the …

In this study the author baa presented not only opinions of educators throughout the country, but also re­sults of research data compiled by those public school divisions in the State of Virginia that have experimented with this intermediate school theory and have reached validated conclusions . Since the end of World War II, there has been a measurable tendency for new manufacturing plants to be built in rural areas in the South. The predominantly rural and agricultural counties of Virginia have a considerably higher proportion of the new plants than they had of the total number of manufacturing plants in 1950.1 In Virginia, this trend has been aided by the Division of Industrial Development and Planning, and industrial departments of railroads and electric utilities, which have used their influence to encourage the building of new manufacturing plants in low-income rural areas when economically feasible.

While most investigations have been limited to the study of pigment cells in the epidermis and hair follicles, this work embraces pigmentation of the leg muscles and dermis as well. To this end, PET mice were used which have an abundance of pigment cells in the leg muscles, but which show restriction of integumentary melanocytes to the dermis and hair. This characteristic provided the unique opportunity of comparing isolated systems of pigment cells in their response to identical stimuli of x-rays. Volunteer subjects are utilized in a large portion of experiments concerned with human behavior. Yet the use of volunteers is a form of systematic sampling bias which may well distort research findings. This study was undertaken to explore some of the factors related to volunteering for psychological experiments at Richmond College in the hope of providing future researchers with insight into reasons why the use of volunteer subjects may bias their research results and of stimulating them to use more representative, albeit less convenient sampling procedures.

By 1641 John Milton had prepared a rather detailed outline for a tragic drama, Adam Unparadised. The design was to take form and grow, not as a religious drama, but as a magnificent epic poem which would "assert Eternal Providence,/And justify the ways of God to men" (I.25-26). In the original design for the drama the character and person of Satan did not constitute a basis for sustained interest. The two-fold insight that derives from this study is, on the one hand, the increased understanding of Marvell's use of language in both early and late poems and, on the other, the increased understanding of the rhetorical movements. The reader of Marvell's poems is possessed of a sensitivity to his poetry that is based on an awareness of his rhetoric as idiosyncratic and as reflective of the habits of the age.

The present study was designed to overcome, at least to some extent, the problems by using older, experimentally naive subjects am shorter programs. A comparison is made between successive performances by a group of college students on a series of three programs. The null hypothesis is that there will be no significant differences between performances on the three programs. This was partly because there was no definite need for any governmental reform in this area until the twentieth century brought about an expansion of the powers and responsibilities of governments.
