Wearable Personal Data Information Capture System, Jiangpeng Shi

LSU New Orleans Theses and Dissertations

This thesis is motivated by development of The Wearable Personal Data Information Capture System (WPDICS), which is used to support the "physical" data stream requirement on a person as they experience daily life, including visual and audio information. To fit the acquirement of "wearable", the system should be very tiny in size and very low cost. Our purpose is to conduct a feasibility analysis for WPDICS using commercially available components (Sharp Zaurus SL 5600 Linux PDA) and evaluate the acquisition of "physical" data streams grabbed by this component. In the thesis, we also develop some software test the data acquisition, …

Employee Satisfaction And Performance: A Study Of The Rc Hotel Company Kitchen Environment, Melissa Bradberry Sims Dec 2004

Employee Satisfaction And Performance: A Study Of The Rc Hotel Company Kitchen Environment, Melissa Bradberry Sims

LSU New Orleans Theses and Dissertations

Employee satisfaction and performance are a major determinant of the corporate culture of a property. Discussion of whether or not this statement is true within the kitchens of The Ritz Carlton Hotel in New Orleans is the basis for this study. By using the corporate mandated tools (the annual employee satisfaction survey and the employee performance appraisals) the determination of this question was confirmed. However, there were some great concerns about the validity of the two tools. The tools showed a definite relationship between the employee satisfaction survey and the performance appraisal, as well as a negative employee perception of …

Biomass Integrated Gasification Combined Cycles (Bigcc), Mun Roy Yap Dec 2004

Biomass Integrated Gasification Combined Cycles (Bigcc), Mun Roy Yap

LSU New Orleans Theses and Dissertations

Conversion of biomass to energy does not contribute to the net increase of carbon dioxide in the environment, therefore the use of biomass waste as a clean and renewable fuel source is an attractive alternative to the use of fossil fuels. Biomass can be converted to energy via direct combustion or via thermo-chemical conversion to liquid or gas fuels. This study focuses on employing gasification technology to convert biomass waste to producer gas, which is then cleaned and fed as gaseous fuel into the gas turbine. Since the producer gases are usually low caloric values, the power plants performance under …

Byzantine Music Intervals: An Experimental Signal Processing Approach, Kyriakos Michael Tsiappoutas Aug 2004

Byzantine Music Intervals: An Experimental Signal Processing Approach, Kyriakos Michael Tsiappoutas

LSU New Orleans Theses and Dissertations

We used a Byzantine Music piece performed by a well recognized chanter in order to derive experimentally the mean frequencies of the first five tones (D – A) of the diatonic scale of Byzantine Music. Then we compared the experimentally derived frequencies with frequencies proposed by two theoretical scales, both representative of traditional Byzantine Music chanting. We found that if a scale is performed by a traditional chanter is very close in frequency to the frequencies proposed theoretically. We then determined an allowed frequency deviation from the mean frequencies for each tone. The concept of allowed deviation is not provided …

Informational Externalities Of Going Public Decisions, Carmen Cotei Aug 2004

Informational Externalities Of Going Public Decisions, Carmen Cotei

LSU New Orleans Theses and Dissertations

In this dissertation I examine the informational externalities of going public decisions for industrial and banking sector. The results show that industrial rivals have positive valuation effects only in response to venture backed IPOs and no significant reaction in response to non-venture backed IPOs. I also find evidence that the effect on rival firms is stronger if they operate in low concentrated industries (i.e. high competition) and have low growth opportunities. The relative size of IPO firm seems to play an important role in the direction and magnitude of industry rivals' valuation effects. Negative information revealed in the form of …

Other conventions of Creative Non-fiction are used such as dialogue, characterization and plot. Autotopography (photographs) are used to create a motif of ancestral ghosts. They haunt the lives of these characters as they act and react to plots that began long before they were born. …

The Process And Challenges Of Creating An Evening Of Greek Theatre, Shane Stewart May 2004

The Process And Challenges Of Creating An Evening Of Greek Theatre, Shane Stewart

LSU New Orleans Theses and Dissertations

A series of scenes taken from Greek theatre were collaborated and chosen to form what became known as An Evening of Greek Theatre. Along with the normal challenges of creating a production, such as memorization, blocking, costuming, and others, came challenges that were unique to this particular one. The training we are most familiar with is in the confines of realism, and this particular production had little to do with realism. The stylization created an amalgamation of techniques, which became a functional process used to create An Evening of Greek Theatre. Along with these problems were other ones, such as …
