Burnout among healthcare professionals is increasing and directly impacts patient outcomes. The National Academy of Medicine called for clinician well-being to be a priority in the United States. A systematic review evaluated the effectiveness of expressive arts interventions used to address psychosocial stress. Areas for future research are identified.

This session reports the progress of the nursing profession to answer the Institute of Medicine’s (IOM, 2011) call for change in nursing practice related to teamwork/interprofessional education (IPE). Review of the 4-week RIDE rotation: a series of online modules on interprofessional/recovery concepts for graduate students (mental health nursing, pharmacy, nutrition, exercise physiology) with 3-day clinical immersion. Seventy-six students (4 cohorts) participated. Presentation of results from quantitative team attitude/team development assessments, and from qualitative focus groups.

Nursing students in a baccalaureate program completed reflective assignments on their perception of older adults over three semesters during the first year to learn if their perceptions changed over time. Students demonstrated stereotypical responses in the first semester with a dramatic shift in focus by the third semester.

In this study about 25% of oncology patients seen in an outpatient psychiatric oncology clinic endorsed sexual problems on the Distress Thermometer checklist. They were more likely to be younger Black or Hispanic males in a committed relationship and with higher levels of depression, anxiety and distress.

While maternal depressive symptoms during pregnancy have been linked to preterm birth, little has been reported on potential buffering factors, particularly for Black women. We examined the association between depressive symptoms and preterm birth in pregnant Black women, with father of the baby support as a potential buffering factor.

Domestic violence exists in India, Nursing here is a woman dominated profession and some married nurses are victims. Family Counselling was used as a therapy and its effectiveness studied on the perceived ability of the Nurse to perform to better nursing outcomes. The study concludes that Family counselling was effective.

The objective of this study was to identify symptom clusters and compare cluster results in a cohort of 474 patients with acute coronary syndrome using two variable-centered and three person-centered analytic approaches. Three to four clusters were identified across statistical techniques and the clusters had more similarities than differences.

One pre-licensure cohort of baccalaureate nursing students were asked to participate in a 3-year study that explored their genomic knowledge, perception/attitude and comfort level. Utilizing the same survey instrument, Genetics/Genomics Literacy Assessment, comparison of pre-class vs. post-class intervention [second year] and retention of knowledge through third and fourth years.

To determine the impact Visual Thinking Strategies on defining family, baccalaureate nursing students completed an assignment creating a visual representation of family. Over half of students reported that VTS augmented their learning about differing perceptions of family. The majority found that VTS augmented their observational and communication skills.

This quasi-experimental research with one-group self-control aimed to examine effects of the program promoting sodium intake reduction on knowledge of sodium intake and urinary sodium in 173 nursing students. After the program, the participants' knowledge was significantly higher while urinary sodium was lower than before the program and baseline.

This obesity intervention program explored the effectiveness of an Internet-delivered, intensive behavioral program for adults living in rural or medically underserved communities in the American Southwest. Using adult learning theory to design an intensive behavioral intervention has demonstrated effectiveness for adult rural community dwellers who are overweight or obese.

Five key contextualization dimensions were identified: Personal factors; The healthcare system; Accessing healthcare; The encounter and healthcare experiences. Results of a survey of 42 nursing programs in selected Western states in the United States identified challenges for nursing education. Survey results indicated a gap related to considering disruptive innovation as a strategy for solving challenges. Researchers propose that incivility may have its root in nursing school. Effects of incivility may impede the professional development of student nurses. Unaddressed acts of incivility may carry over into the workplace. It is imperative therefore, that nurse educators have the skills necessary to thread incivility training throughout curriculum.
