Limited health literacy is associated with poorer health outcomes, and increased healthcare costs. This study examined the knowledge and experience of first semester Family Nurse Practitioner students. Results showed FNP students have some health literacy knowledge and experience but significant gaps exist in both health literacy knowledge and experience.

The purpose of this qualitative research was to investigate treatment negotiations between Western pediatric medical/nursing teams and patients/families of diverse cultural and religious perspectives. This was done in relation to feelings of inequality or Power Distance. The outcome was to promote cultural care and respect during refusal/limitation/delay in treatment decisions.

This study aimed to explore the feasibility of Tai Chi, developed for older adults with high risk for dementia. Tai Chi has been safely applied for 12 weeks without adverse effects and revealed the potential benefits to improve physical and cognitive functioning and the quality of life in this population.

Language concordance can positively impact health outcomes for Spanish speaking patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. We describe the development of a course in medical Spanish predicated on the discourse model of the motivational interview. This was a retrospective qualitative study that explored the role of spirituality in relation to emotional symptoms of patients awaiting cardiac transplant. Fourteen interviews were analyzed. Themes were identified and will be discussed, including spirituality as an important coping mechanism for emotional symptoms.

We found that there were no significant differences in physical performance between the older and late middle-aged patients with mental illness. The results indicate that the reduced ability to perform physical performance may be emerged in the late middle-aged period in this population.
