Performance Evaluations Of Latex-Modified And Silica Fume Modified Concrete Overlays For Bridge Decks, Sathish Kumar Raju Konduru Jan 2009

Performance Evaluations Of Latex-Modified And Silica Fume Modified Concrete Overlays For Bridge Decks, Sathish Kumar Raju Konduru

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)

Most of the concrete bridge decks in the cold regions undergo severe reinforcement corrosion due to the transport of chloride ions within the concrete by application of deicing salts on bridge decks in the winter. As a result, protective concrete overlays of about 2-inch thickness are applied on bridge decks. Concrete overlays provide: (1) protection against heavy traffic and the further infiltration of the chloride ions; (2) skid resistance surface; and (3) uniform appearance to extend the service life of bridge decks. Despite these advantages, concrete overlays undergo premature delaminations, edge curling, and corner lifting due to expansion/shrinkage of concrete, …

Choice Between Schedules Of Reinforcement With And Without Response-Pacing Requirements, Leigh Schrimpf Jan 2009

Choice Between Schedules Of Reinforcement With And Without Response-Pacing Requirements, Leigh Schrimpf

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)

Differential-reinforcement-of-low-rate (DRL) and differential-reinforcement-of-high-rate (DRH) schedules specify a certain pace of responding eligible for reinforcement. The present study assessed the value of a paced schedule of reinforcement using a concurrent-chains schedule. Pigeon's pecks on the left and right initial-link keys led to one of two terminal-link VI 60-s schedules, programmed on the center key. Completion of a terminal-link schedule always led to access to grain. The value of a terminal-link schedule was measured by the initial-link choice proportions. In the baseline, pecks on either initial-link key produced access to one of two unpaced terminal-link schedules every 60 s, on average. …

Numerical Solutions Of Boundary Inverse Problems For Some Elliptic Partial Differential Equations, Suxing Zeng Jan 2009

Numerical Solutions Of Boundary Inverse Problems For Some Elliptic Partial Differential Equations, Suxing Zeng

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)

In this dissertation, we study boundary inverse problems for some elliptic partial differential equations. These are problems arising from quantitative analysis of various non-destructive testing techniques in applications. In such a problem, we are interested in using boundary measurements of the solution to recover either an unknown coefficient function in the boundary condition, or a portion of the boundary, or an unknown interior interface. We first introduce formulations of the boundary value problems into integral equations, then design numerical algorithms for solving each of these inverse problems. Numerical implementation and examples are presented to illustrate the feasibility and effectiveness of …

Heavenly Genes: Eugenics And The New Woman In Fin De Siecle England., Jane V. Rago Jan 2009

Heavenly Genes: Eugenics And The New Woman In Fin De Siecle England., Jane V. Rago

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)

In 1886 the Contagious Diseases Acts were repealed after a long sixteen year fight, led by social reformers and what would later come to be known as the first wave of feminism. Western feminism was born and bred in large part out of the debates sparked by the Contagious Diseases Acts, debates that opened up into the appeal for women to be granted full citizenship through the right to vote, to own property after marriage, and the right to education and employment outside the home. The crux of this argument was grounded in a critique of mid-Victorian ideology of separate …

Parent-Child Interaction Therapy: The Effects Of Parental Attention Components On Children's Verbalizations And Attending-To-Task Behaviors., Ashley B. Tempel Jan 2009

Parent-Child Interaction Therapy: The Effects Of Parental Attention Components On Children's Verbalizations And Attending-To-Task Behaviors., Ashley B. Tempel

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)

Various evidence-based behavioral parent training programs are theoretically designed to target parenting skills that enhance parent-child interactions. Many similarities exist across the empirically-supported interventions, however programs also include unique components (e.g., use of reflections in Parent-Child Interaction Therapy). Empirical examination of individual components is necessary to inform components that promote or deter intervention effectiveness and efficiency. An empirically established association among language delays, behavior difficulties, and poor longitudinal outcomes further supports a need for identification of facilitative components. Currently, examinations of individual components have largely targeted the effects of praise and time-out. Despite clinical assertions that additional components serve important …
