Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)

The double pulsar, PSR J0737-3039A/B, is a unique binary system in which both neutron stars have been detected as radio pulsars. We analyze the evolution of the radio emission from the second born, 2.8 s pulsar (pulsar B) based on five years of Green Bank Telescope data since 2003 December. We find that the pulse profile and the flux density of pulsar B change significantly over time, culminating in its radio emission disappearance towards our line of sight since 2008 March. Over this time, the flux density decreases dramatically and the pulse profile evolves from a single to a double …

Column Flotation Of Subbituminous Coal Using The Blend Of Trimethyl Pentanediol Derivatives And Pico-Nano Bubbles, Jinxiang Chen Aug 2013

Column Flotation Of Subbituminous Coal Using The Blend Of Trimethyl Pentanediol Derivatives And Pico-Nano Bubbles, Jinxiang Chen

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)

Subbituminous coal, a low rank of coal, is difficult-to-float using the conventional flotation process by a single frother such as MIBC and a single collector such as kerosene or fuel oil. The froth flotation of the fine coal separation process is based on the differences of wettability between coal and mineral particles. The formation of oxygenated functional groups on coal surface can reduce its hydrophobicity. This result makes the coal more difficult to float by oily collector alone. Previous work shows that the surfactant can be used to activate the oxygenated surface, by selecting the group of such as fatty …

Droplet Impact Sub-Cavity Histories And Pdpa Spray Experiments For Spray Cooling Modeling, Nicholas Lee Hillen

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)

Spray cooling is a topic of current interest for its ability to uniformly remove high levels of waste heat from densely packed microelectronics. It has demonstrated the ability to achieve very high heat fluxes, up to 500 W/cm2 with water as the coolant, making it an attractive active thermal management tool.;Full Computational Fluid Dynamic (CFD) simulations of spray cooling are infeasible due to the complexity of the spray (drops fluxes of 106 drops/cm2-sec) and heater surface physics requiring impractical resources. Thus a Monte-Carlo (MC) spray cooling simulation model based on empirical data is under development to serve as a cost …
