The Effects Of Instructor Self-Disclosure On Students’ Cognitive Learning: A Live Lecture Experiment, Stephen Michael Kromka Jan 2020

The Effects Of Instructor Self-Disclosure On Students’ Cognitive Learning: A Live Lecture Experiment, Stephen Michael Kromka

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)

The purpose of this dissertation was to examine the causal influences of relevant (and irrelevant) instructor self-disclosure on student affect and cognitive learning. Relevant self-disclosure involves the instructor directly relating personal disclosures to important lesson content, whereas irrelevant self-disclosure involves the instructor’s personal disclosures straying from the lesson topic. Given previous correlational self-disclosure research, the researcher predicted that relevant (compared to irrelevant) instructor self-disclosure would lead to increased reports of affect toward the instructor. The researcher also predicted that instructor self-disclosure relevance (compared to irrelevance) would enhance lesson coherence, and in turn, foster students’ cognitive learning. The researcher conducted a …

Cycle Double Covers And Integer Flows, Zhang Zhang Jan 2020

Cycle Double Covers And Integer Flows, Zhang Zhang

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)

My research focuses on two famous problems in graph theory, namely the cycle double cover conjecture and the integer flows conjectures. This kind of problem is undoubtedly one of the major catalysts in the tremendous development of graph theory. It was observed by Tutte that the Four color problem can be formulated in terms of integer flows, as well as cycle covers. Since then, the topics of integer flows and cycle covers have always been in the main line of graph theory research. This dissertation provides several partial results on these two classes of problems.

In addition, alternative semiconductor materials to semiconductors that …

Role Centrality And Shared Activities With Grandchildren: Effects On Grandparent Wellbeing, Madeline Marie Marello Jan 2020

Role Centrality And Shared Activities With Grandchildren: Effects On Grandparent Wellbeing, Madeline Marie Marello

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)

Research shows that physical and mental health are closely linked (Ohrnberger, Fichera, & Sutton, 2017). Further, social role theory states that holding and enacting valued roles, such as grandparenting, can buffer the negative effects of health on depression (Reitzes & Mutran, 2004). Using data from 247 grandparents (Mean age = 66.5; range 42 to 90 years; 46.2% grandfathers), we examined whether grandparent role centrality and engagement with grandchildren altered the effects of physical health on depression. We then explored model differences between 164 custodial and 83 traditional grandparents. We found that for all grandparents the model was of sufficient fit: …
