Microwave Calcination Techniques For Electrode And Electrolyte Powders In Fuel Cells, Logan Scott Proud

This work investigates microwave-assisted calcination as a rapid, energy-efficient alternative to conventional resistive heating for the synthesis of complex oxide powders used in solid oxide electrochemical cells. Ce₀.₉Gd₀.₁O₁.₉₅ (GDC10) and La₀.₆Sr₀.₄Co₀.₂Fe₀.₈O₃–δ (LSCF6428) were synthesized via solid-state and co-precipitation routes to evaluate the influence of precursor chemistry and dielectric behavior on microwave coupling, reaction kinetics, and powder characteristics. Calcination was performed in single-mode and multimode microwave systems using a silicon carbide/alumina susceptor–insulation package to ensure controlled high-temperature processing. In the United States, woody plants capture about 13% of annual carbon emissions, highlighting the importance of forests and other ecosystems in national climate strategies.With over 640 million acres of public land, management strategies that incorporate carbon sequestration could significantly influence national carbon storage. Because public lands are taxpayer-funded, public acceptance is critical in carbon-focused policies. Donation solicitation literature validates the successful usage of various solicitation tactics that lead to achieving set donation goals for their associated cause. Yet, while the financial success of “checkout charity” is well-documented, a significant gap remains regarding the impact of high-frequency solicitations on long-term consumer-brand relationship. This research addresses this gap. Over the span of three surveys, this study finds that donation request frequency overall erodes donation likelihood through donor fatigue when donation frequency changes (occasional vs. always). The first essay estimates bias in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for elderly individuals in the United States using Engel curve methodology and household-level data from the Panel Study of Income Dynamics (1999–2023). The analysis focuses on how well the CPI reflects changes in the cost of living for older Americans, with particular attention to differences by gender and marital status. Results show that from 1999–2011, the CPI overstated the increase in the cost of living for both elderly and non-elderly households. In contrast, from 1999–2023, the CPI understated cost increases, with the bias generally larger for non-elderly households. Within …

Success in higher education is influenced by a range of social and economic factors that do not affect all students equally. This thesis examined how Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), socioeconomic status (SES), first-generation college status, minority status, and geographic isolation independently and multiplicatively relate to academic outcomes. Using data from 775 first-year students at a large public university in rural Appalachia, this study assessed whether these factors independently and/or multiplicatively predicted first-year GPA and odds of dropping out. While emotion recognition deficits have been found in several anxiety and related disorders (e.g., social anxiety, obsessive-compulsive), consistent results have not been established. To clarify the relationship between emotion recognition abilities and anxiety, the current study tested if transdiagnostic factors related to anxiety are predictors of emotion recognition abilities. Data was analyzed from participants (N = 188) recruited via CloudResearch; they completed measures of three transdiagnostic factors related to anxiety (e.g., anxiety sensitivity, intolerance of uncertainty, and rumination), followed by an emotion recognition task. Introduction: Awake paralysis (AWP) occurs when long-acting neuromuscular blockers outlast short-acting sedatives during intubation, leaving patients chemically paralyzed but conscious. This highlights the critical need for timely post-intubation sedation.

Background: A 2024 review in the Neurological Critical Care Unit (NCCU) revealed that 72% of patients who received rocuronium were not given a post-intubation sedative.
