This study was designed to determine the leadership style of Kentucky school principals as perceived by Kentucky public school teachers. The study then measured the job satisfaction of the Kentucky public school teachers and examined the significant relationship between leadership style and teacher job satisfaction. The design and the findings of the study are as follows.;From the population of 40,000 teachers as identified by the teacher certification unit of Kentucky's State Department of Education, a random sample of 500 (250 elementary and 250 secondary) was chosen. Protecting smaller family-type cemeteries is a difficult task in a rapidly growing area. This paper investigates that ways in which Loudoun County, Virginia addressed cemetery protection concerns. Cemetery locational data was captured from a variety of sources and integrated into the countys geographic information system (GIS). The locational information was gathered through digitization and with a Global Positioning System (GPS). Once the cemetery locational information was in the GIS, it was then integrated into an existing land development process.

The problem of this research was to analyze science- and technology-related health assistance provided to Third World nations between 1985 and 1995 by four donor agencies: Ford and Rockefeller Foundations, USAID, and World Bank. The research examined health assistance in terms of (1) the number and value of projects by region, sub-region, and country; (2) the amount of assistance provided by individual donor agencies; (3) the types of projects initiated; and (4) the impact that these projects had on 8 health-related and 1 economic-related indicator in selected countries. May Ayim and Alev Tekinay are two contemporary German writers whose works can play a significant role in transforming German feminism so that it becomes a movement concerned with ending all forms of social domination. Ayim is Afro-German, and her essays and poetry, written primarily in the 1990s, reflect the experiences of a dark-skinned woman who was raised in an almost all-white society. The iron-sulfur protein, a subunit of the bc1 complex, is encoded in the nucleus and subsequently imported into the mitochondria where it is assembled with the rest of the subunits into a functional cytochrome bc1 complex. The assembly of deletion mutants of the iron-sulfur protein into the bc1 complex has been investigated by immunoprecipitation by specific antisera against either the iron-sulfur protein or the intact bc1 complex. Electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) and electron-nuclear double resonance (ENDOR) studies have been performed on two chalcopyrite crystals grown by the horizontal-gradient-freeze technique. An impurity defect has been characterized in silver gallium selenide (AgGaSe2) and has been identified as a Ni+ ion substituting for a Ag+ ion. This nickel defect exists in as-grown crystals in the paramagnetic state. A complete ENDOR angular dependence study provided spin-Hamiltonian parameters for the 61Ni isotope as well as the neighboring selenium ions (77Se) and gallium ions (69Ga and 71Ga). The biharmonic equation is used to model the deflections arising in two dimensional rectangular orthotropic symmetric laminate plates. The plate can be subjected to external perpendicular forces and one is interested in the resulting deflections. Various boundary conditions can be applied to the problem. The edges can be simply supported, clamped, or free. In this work, an automatic procedure is defined which produces the difference equations for each edge boundary case. The procedure is illustrated, using MATLAB, with numerical results for problems with and without exact analytical solutions.

School skills training and schoolwide management programs are often applied in schools by introducing a package that has been developed in another school and worked well there. When transplanted, however, these programs often fail to achieve satisfactory results. This study focuses on the application of a transplanted, state-mandated, schoolwide program as carried out in a small rural elementary school (population 250). This study examined the reactions of mental health professionals to acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS)-related bereavement. Ninety-six mental health professionals from across the United States (e.g., counselors, social workers, and psychologists) completed questionnaires concerning the loss of a client to AIDS. Measures included the Texas Revised Inventory of Grief, Impact of Event Scale-Revised, Brief Symptom Inventory, and Satisfaction with Life Scale. There were no significant relations between client deaths (number and recency) and indices of grief, trauma, psychological distress, or satisfaction with life. Symptoms of distress did not increase with number of deaths or in relation to recency of a …

Glass fiber reinforced plastics (GFRPs) are beginning to be used as structural materials in construction. However, their mechanical properties can degrade after prolonged exposure to the environment. Understanding this degradation was the focus of this research. Epoxy neat resin and glass/epoxy composite samples were soaked in four different solutions (distilled water, saturated salt solution, 5 M NaOH, and 1 M HCl solution) for 5 months. The samples were also subjected to a combination of temperature and sustained load at room temperature and at 60°C. Very few studies have examined the concept of fear in older adults. Moreover, there is no self-report measure of fear that has been shown to be psychometrically sound for use with older individuals. The primary purposes of the present study were: (a) to develop a measure of self-reported fear that includes fears relevant to older adulthood, (b) to develop a measure for assessing daily interference associated with fears, and (c) to examine the psychometric properties of this new instrument. A detailed liquid-helium-temperature photoluminescence study has been performed on a series of ZnSe epilayers grown by molecular beam epitaxy. The samples were grown at West Virginia University and include undoped and nitrogen-doped epilayers (with different levels of doping). The PL has been studied as a function of excitation wavelength, power, temperature and time. Electron Paramagnetic Resonance (EPR) and Photoluminescence Excitation (PLE) were also performed. An ionization energy of 50 meV for the “deep” donor in a lightly doped ZnSe:N sample is determined using power dependence data. Nitric oxide (NO) has been implicated as a mediator of the normal renal and systemic hemodynamic changes of pregnancy. In study 1, we measured NO 3 + NO2 (=NOx) in plasma (PNOx) and 24 hour urinary excretion of NOx (UNOxV) and cGMP (UcGMPV) as well as tissue NOS activity in virgin (V), mid (MP) and late pregnant (LP) rats. The results from this study suggest that the soluble isoforms, NOS1 and/or NOS2, are the isoforms responsible for increased NO production during pregnancy. Research has found a relationship between treatment success and parental compliance with treatment programs. The current study explored how therapist characteristics impact on parental compliance with a behavioral parent-training program (Parent-Child Interaction Therapy). Also, differences in maternal satisfaction with the treatment program and therapist were explored. The participants were 45 mothers with children between the ages of 24 months and 83 months. Each mother was taught effective parenting strategies using one of three therapist communication styles: (a) positive therapist, (b) neutral therapist, and (c) negative therapist.
