Using Preschool Peers To Teach And Facilitate The Generalization Of Decreases In Aggressive Play., Grace R. Kalfus
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)
The present study examined the effectiveness of a preschool peer mediator to facilitate generalization of social behavior change. Previous research has shown peers to be effective mediators in treatment programs, however, their efficacy as generalization facilitators is less clear. Preschool children observed to play aggressively with toys and speak in an aggressive manner were selected as subjects. The children were divided into two groups of two. The peer tutor did not engage in these aggressive behaviors. Peer tutor training consisted of discussion, role play, modeling, praise, and physical affection. A peer tutoring procedure in which the peer tutor delivered instructions, …

Utilization Of Resources Through Information Systems Planning In Higher Education., Glenn Devon Crowe
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)
Today, higher education administration's task is one of unprecedented complexity. The multiple burdens provide sufficient reason for real interest in utilization of effective information systems. Consequently, new functions affecting the production, retention, and delivery of information have emerged. This study is not about the computer as such, but how to use it, what administrative information it can provide, and academically, how to let it serve higher education's purposes more sensitively and beneficially. The immediate and long-term information needs of a selected university were identified under the philosophy that good administrative use of the computer can help preserve educational resources in …

"O Mother, Mother: What Have You Done"?: Shakespeare's Mothers In Relation To Catastrophe., Betty Jeannine Norvell
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)
As the title, "O Mother, Mother! What Have You Done"?: Shakespeare's Mothers in Relation to Catastrophe," suggests, this study explores the connection of Shakespeare's mother figures with plot catastrophe. As background procedure, Renaissance thought is studied in terms of its roots in the works of Plato and other Classical Greek writers, and of Augustine and Aquinas and other Medieval writers, particularly in terms of the significance of the concept of chaos and catastrophe, and its antithesis, order. Then Renaissance documents are analyzed to determine Renaissance attitudes toward women, and, in particular, mothers, and their relationship to the social and moral …
Power Determination For Mobile Mining Equipment., Gene Thomas Lineberry
Power Determination For Mobile Mining Equipment., Gene Thomas Lineberry
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)
A piece of mobile mining equipment must possess sufficient power to overcome normal resistances and also resistances whose prediction and quantification is much more difficult, such as those accompanying cyclic maneuvers and emergencies. These abnormal, highly variable resistances require a quantity of reserve power. The sum of reserve power, required power, auxiliary power, and ambient corrections represents the total power requirement. Reserve power is traditionally defined as "the additional power available to a vehicle for climbing grades and for acceleration." In this study, reserve power was redefined as "the power available to a vehicle in addition to that necessary to …

Motor Skill Acquisition As A Function Of The Post-Knowledge Of Results Delay Interval And Task Complexity., Jimmy Patrick Timmons
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)
Schmidt (1975) and Weinberg, Guy, and Tupper (1964) have expressed the expectation that post-KR delays in simple to complex motor tasks must increase as task complexity increases if the rate of acquisition is to be maintained. This study was an attempt to investigate that prediction. Nine treatment conditions were established by the interaction of three levels of post-KR delay with three levels of task complexity. Volunteer subjects (N = 10 for each treatment condition) were male undergraduate and graduate students at West Virginia University during the summer of 1979. Twenty trials were received by each subject; the first ten were …

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)
Two analytical models of the Japanese foreign policymaking serve as the point of departure for this study: the tripartite power elite model and the "tripod system" model. According to the power elite model, which is the most popular model for Japan, there are three groups in Japan--the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), bureaucracy, and big business--that dominate the Japanese policy-making process as a cohesive triumvirate elite group. The second analytic model, the "tripod system" model, advanced by Chihiro Hosoya of Hitotsubashi University, also conceptualizes the same three groups as the dominant participants in the Japanese foreign policymaking process. However, unlike the …

Clinical Treatments Of Depression., Deborah Kay Orth
Clinical Treatments Of Depression., Deborah Kay Orth
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)
Depression seems to be a major problem for college students who are coping with academic and social pressures, as well as defining goals for life and career, often without adequate support systems. Therapy is frequently sought by moderately depressed college students. This treatment teaches the individual a style of thinking or a way of approaching their difficulties, but in one study, the 42 percent who did seek therapy rated the effectiveness as only 3.5 on a 5-point scale (Bosse, 1975). Students perhaps also need a means of coping that they can rely on in addition to the insight and behavior …
