Effect Of Breathing, Posture, And Air Velocity On Breathing Zone Gas Concentrations For Human Subjects In A Wind Tunnel, Ahmed R. El-Sotouhy

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)

Industrial hygienists generally place air-sampling probes on the mid to upper torso of workers when attempting to determine inhaled concentrations. There is no convincing evidence that concentrations measured on the chest are equal to inhaled concentrations. To determine how well surrogate locations matched concentrations at the mouth (Cmouth), low concentrations of ethanol in nitrogen were released between the hands of standing and seated human subjects while they moved children's blocks back and forth over the source.;In all cases, each of four subjects stood or sat with their backs to the airflow in a wind tunnel because previous studies had established …

Understanding The Motivations Of Ghanaian Bureaucrats, Christine Naa Norley Lokko Jan 2008

Understanding The Motivations Of Ghanaian Bureaucrats, Christine Naa Norley Lokko

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)

This study examines the factors that affect the work performance of Ghanaian bureaucrats. Three decades ago Robert Price (1975) examined the impact that kinship ties had on the motivation of Ghanaian bureaucrats. He found that Ghanaian bureaucrats behaved in particularistic fashions as opposed to acting in a universalistic manner, suggesting kinship was a major determinant of bureaucratic routine. This study followed the work of Price by replicating his mix of interviews and surveys, with the addition of questions that incorporate recent work on bureaucracy that suggest motivation involves a mix of solidary, functional, and pecuniary preferences (Brehm and Gates, 1997; …

Study Of The Variations In Continuous Diesel Particulate Matter Size Measurements And Effect Of Fuel Properties On Dpm Size, Kevin Anthony Chappell Flaim

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)

Heavy-duty diesel engines (HDDE), because of their widespread use and reputation of expelling excessive soot, have frequently been held responsible for superfluous amounts of overall environmental particulate matter (PM). PM is a considerable contributor to air pollution, and a subject of primary concern to health and regulatory agencies worldwide. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has provided PM emissions regulations and standards of measurement techniques since the 1980's. PM standards set forth by the EPA for HDDEs are based only on total mass, instead of size and/or concentration. The European Union is considering regulating particle size, and it may influence …
