The Value Relevance Of Retail Strategy, Kexin Xiang
The Value Relevance Of Retail Strategy, Kexin Xiang
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
All three essays of this dissertation are under the umbrella of retail management and study the phenomenon of retail management from the following perspectives: retailers’ multichannel strategy, retailers’ store operation management, and retailers’ securities lawsuits likelihood. Specifically, the first essay studies the effect of a channel integration strategy called buy-online-and-pick-up-in-store on retailers’ stock value. The second essay studies the relationship between a retailer’s top management team (TMT) confidence and the store overexpansion. The third essay studies how TMT confidence is associated with securities class action (SCA) litigation. Essays 1 and 2 focus on retailers’ channel decision whereas Essays 2 and …
Advancements Toward Sustainable Solar Fuel Production Utilizing Reductive Homogeneous Electro- And Photocatalysis, Hunter Pratt Shirley
Advancements Toward Sustainable Solar Fuel Production Utilizing Reductive Homogeneous Electro- And Photocatalysis, Hunter Pratt Shirley
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Molecular CO2 and H+ reductive catalysts, whether they be electro- or photocatalytic, have been shown to be possible routes of harnessing solar energy in a clean, renewable manner. There are few electrocatalysts operating at reasonable overpotentials to prove useful in artificial photosynthetic systems, and there are a number of environmental factors within these systems that have yet to be evaluated. Photo-driven catalysis is rare, difficult to control, and rarely provides high-value CO2 reduction products. I report herein an exceptionally low overpotential H+ reduction catalyst, a method of modulating electrocatalysts in-situ to improve performance, a first-of-its-kind mononuclear proton reduction photocatalyst, a …
Design And Synthesis Of Salvinorin-Based Compounds For The Opioid Receptors., Nicholas S. Akins
Design And Synthesis Of Salvinorin-Based Compounds For The Opioid Receptors., Nicholas S. Akins
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Opioid receptors (OR) are expressed throughout both the peripheral and central nervous system and play crucial roles in the modulation of antinociception, addiction, anxiety, and depression. Salvinorin A, the main isolate of the hallucinogenic plant Salvia divinorum, is one of the most potent naturally occurring kappa opioid receptor agonists. Salvinorin A possesses beneficial effects as a therapeutic in a variety of CNS disorders, but due to its strong hallucinating, anxiogenic effects, and short half-life(t1/2), it has never advanced to clinical trials. Instead, salvinorin A has been used as an important prototype for the development of related drug candidates. Our initial …

Acceptability, Anticipated Adherence, And Willingness To Begin Interoceptive Exposure: Examination Of The Influence Of A Values Rationale, Gina Quebedeaux Boullion
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Interoceptive exposure (IE) is a treatment entailing induction of feared physiological sensations that has emerged as the most efficacious component of cognitive behavioral treatments for panic disorder. However, small-to-moderate effect sizes, wide variability in response rates, and dropout rates indicate that panic disorder treatments may benefit from modifications to improve upon retention, response rates, and symptom reduction. Patient motivation and lack of engagement have been identified as factors to intervene upon. One specific direction that has gained increasing empirical interest is the inclusion of values identification; however, research has not yet examined the influence of values on motivation to engage …

Application Of Passive Air Samplers For Atmospheric Research, And Determination Of Metals In Tree Rings And Marine Sapropel By Icp-Ms, Byunggwon Jeon
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
This research focuses on studies of atmospheric mercury (Hg) using passive air samplers (PAS) and studies of trace elements in tree cores and sediment using inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). Mercury is a toxic element that is dispersed globally through the atmosphere. Accurately measuring airborne Hg concentrations aids understanding of the pollutant’s sources, distribution, cycling, and trends. Mercury PAS are designed to capture gaseous elemental mercury (GEM) at a known rate. Compared to active air sampling the low-cost of PAS allows for greater spatial coverage. We used a commercially available Hg PAS (MerPAS®) and observed differences in GEM between …
The Black Petromodernism Of Zora Neale Hurston: Energy, Race, And Mobility, Stuart Mullet
The Black Petromodernism Of Zora Neale Hurston: Energy, Race, And Mobility, Stuart Mullet
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
This thesis situates Zora Neale Hurston and the folk communities in her oeuvre within the context of modernity’s dependencies on fossil fuels. Such a disciplinary context provides an energy footing for our understandings of African American migrations in the twentieth century—which radically transformed the nation on multiple levels—and it illuminates the communal values that undergird Black approaches to petromodern forms of mobility. Furthermore, by engaging the Black spaces of the South, my argument begins filling a gap in the energy humanities. Few scholars in this field engage deeply those populations and regions that disproportionately experience the underbelly of petromodernity and …
The Role Of Year-Round Fan Engagement: A New Approach To Sport Fan Behavior, Han Soo Kim
The Role Of Year-Round Fan Engagement: A New Approach To Sport Fan Behavior, Han Soo Kim
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Fan engagement, the substantial psychological connectedness to a specific club, team, or sport itself, is in a state of rapid transformation due to the growth of digital media. For sport organizations, managing fan engagement throughout the year is important to maximizing team revenues and sponsors’ interests. While fans consume sports differently depending on the season, the focus has been primarily on fan behavior during the in-season in the sport management literature. Thus, the purposes of this study were to (1) provide a conceptual framework of year-round fan engagement by applying the season distinction approach, (2) establish the scale of off-season …
Executive Functioning And Purpose In Life Among Emerging Adults In College, Alexis Kaylyn Liberto
Executive Functioning And Purpose In Life Among Emerging Adults In College, Alexis Kaylyn Liberto
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Background: Executive functioning (EF) is a complex neurocognitive concept that grew from the field of neuropsychology and has been explored through various avenues. The most accepted theoretical organization of EF includes a three-factor model that is comprised of inhibition, updating, and shifting. The three-factor conceptualization can be measured through various objective EF neuropsychological assessments and self-reported levels of EF abilities. Goal-planning and organizing cognitive processes are another important facet of EF, as they involve self-regulation abilities. Individuals able to “regulate” themselves behaviorally and move towards goals tend to be more successful and move towards their purpose in life. A facet …

Nonreciprocity Applications In Acoustics And Microfluidic Systems, Masoud Naghdi
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Breaking reciprocity in linear acoustic systems and designing a novel actuator for the nonreciprocal valveless pumps are studied in this dissertation. The first part was started by deriving the acoustic governing equations in a moving wave propagation medium. It was shown thatthe Coriolis acceleration term appears ina cross-product term with the wave vector. It means the main reason for breaking reciprocity in the circular fluid flow is the Coriolis acceleration term. Finally, the governing equations were solved numerically by COMSOL Multiphysics software. Moreover, Green`s second identity was used as a complimentary method to prove breaking reciprocityin such a system with …

An In-Depth Approach For Functional Oligosaccharide Analysis, Hao Liu
An In-Depth Approach For Functional Oligosaccharide Analysis, Hao Liu
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Heparin and heparan sulfate (Hp/HS) are linear complex glycosaminoglycans (GAGs), which are involved in diverse biological processes. Although Hp/HS GAGs influence numerous physiological and pathophysiological processes, their high degree of size polydispersity and sequence microheterogeneity make structure-function characterization challenging. In addition, it is hard to understand the structures that underlie any of the various functions with MS, because of the lability of the sulfate group during tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS) analysis. The work presented here describes an in-depth approach for functional oligosaccharide characterization including chemical derivatization of Hp to inhibit COVID-19 infection, multi-dimensional liquid chromatography (LC) fractionation method, chemical derivatization …
Midwifery And Medicine In Britain: A Comparative View Of Midwifery And Childbearing In Scotland And England, 1650-1780, Summer Smith
Midwifery And Medicine In Britain: A Comparative View Of Midwifery And Childbearing In Scotland And England, 1650-1780, Summer Smith
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
In this dissertation I contend the female midwives and childbearing women did not passively accept the alteration of the experience of birth and the ideology surrounding it in eighteenth-century Britain. While the imposition of the man-midwife and the reframing of birth as a disease to be cured in some ways forced childbearing to shift to a medicalized event, many practices persisted from the seventeenth through the nineteenth centuries, illustrating a vein of consistency in a seemingly tumultuous period. Furthermore, the changes that did take root were not solely the purview of the male medical community, but were influenced by women …
Designing For Democracy: How Democratizing States Design International Organizations, Marissa Wyant
Designing For Democracy: How Democratizing States Design International Organizations, Marissa Wyant
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Building on work by Paul Poast and Johannes Urpelainen that suggests that democratizing states are more likely to form new international governmental organizations rather than join existing ones, I ask the question: how do these states design the organizations they form, and how do those design choices compare to the choices made by consolidated democracies and by nondemocracies? I focus on three design choices made by states regarding membership constraints, voting procedures, and dispute resolution processes. By comparing and analyzing founding charters, I find that democratizing states were more likely to constrain access to membership into these organizations to regional …

Development And Characterization Of Albuterol Sulfate Loaded Transdermal Patches With Hme Coupled Fdm 3d Printing, Bhavana Chivukula
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Albuterol sulfate is a short-acting selective Beta 2 Adrenergic agonist. It is used to treat and prevent bronchospasm associated with asthma, bronchitis, and other breathing disorders. It is known to show extensive first pass metabolism and it requires frequent dosing which makes it difficult for patients to comply. To avoid these problems, transdermal route of delivery of Salbutamol was explored. Traditional methods of preparation of transdermal drug delivery systems involve the use of solvents and have multiple processing steps. To avoid the usage of solvents and decrease the processing steps, HME Coupled FDM 3D printing can be used. Different polymers …
On The Variance In Selberg’S Central Limit Theorem Dissertation, Meghann Moriah Lugar
On The Variance In Selberg’S Central Limit Theorem Dissertation, Meghann Moriah Lugar
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Number theorists have made great progress in understanding the distribution of the prime numbers by studying properties of the Riemann zeta-function. A celebrated and classical result of Selberg is that the real and imaginary parts of the logarithm of Riemann zeta-function are normally distributed on the critical line. Selberg proved this using the method of moments. It is known that any model of the logarithm of the Riemann zeta-function near the critical line requires input from the primes and the zeros of the zeta function. We refine Selberg's calculation for the variance of the real part of the logarithm of …

Exploring Current Community College Transfer Students’ Perceptions Of The University Of Mississippi Brand And Potential Connections To College Choice, Sarah Christopher Sapp
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Institutions of higher learning today rely on tuition dollars to function. During a time when the pool of high school graduates is shrinking, colleges and universities must look to alternative target markets to meet enrollment goals, including those transferring from community college. Community college transfers have unique attributes that contribute to their brand perception of colleges and universities and their overall college choice process. This dissertation suggests a need to study the college decision-making process for community college students and their perception of brand identity, specifically at the University of Mississippi. As the Flagship university in Mississippi, UM has a …
Can Nostalgia Defend Against Stereotype Threat?, Justin Leroy Thibault-Anderson
Can Nostalgia Defend Against Stereotype Threat?, Justin Leroy Thibault-Anderson
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Stereotype threat causes individuals to perform worse on tasks when they are made aware of a task-relevant negative stereotype for a group to which they belong. Prior research has demonstrated that this effect has been alleviated by using a number of methods including changing test context or bolstering the stereotyped group. One method of bolstering the threatened group is through a self-affirmation of preferred character traits. Nostalgia is a sentimental longing for the past, which has been shown to provide many benefits to an individual, both personally and socially. Research has shown that when told to recall a nostalgic memory, …
Autonomy And Higher Education: Insight Into The Autonomy System In The Commonwealth Of Virginia, George Lamar Rutherford, Ii
Autonomy And Higher Education: Insight Into The Autonomy System In The Commonwealth Of Virginia, George Lamar Rutherford, Ii
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Institutions of Higher Education (IHEs) have wrangled with state governmental agencies for decades about the role the government should assume in overseeing campus operations. IHEs continue to argue that government intrusion impedes efficient IHE operation. Government agencies counter that IHEs are provided tax dollars to complete the job of educating the states’ citizens and that IHEs must abide by the rules and regulations set by the state. However, over the last two decades, state funding for IHEs is at an all-time low; yet governments still dictate how IHEs operate. With decreased state funding, IHEs sought to replace those funds by …

Dynamic Characterization Of Bio-Inspired Functionally Graded Polymer Infused Metallic Foams For Blast And Impact Hazard Mitigation, Damian Stoddard
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Current vehicular crashworthy systems and body armor designs are effective in protecting personnel and equipment from disaster due to their energy absorbing characteristics. However, little is understood about how to replicate naturally occurring designs through man-made techniques, and the role of functional grading to further improve the performance of such protective systems. This research investigates an advanced material system analogous to a bio-inspired functionally graded material that will serve as a protective system for the mitigation of dynamic events such as low-velocity impact and/or blast loading.
Experimental Investigation Of Granular Dam-Break Flows And Their Rheological Properties, Luc Remi Rébillout
Experimental Investigation Of Granular Dam-Break Flows And Their Rheological Properties, Luc Remi Rébillout
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Large scale events such as landslides, debris-flows, and industrial accidents like tailings dams failures are hard to predict, highly dangerous, and destructive. This research work aims to study similar granular flows with controlled laboratory experiments and numerical simulations. Monodisperse and well-graded granular materials were instantaneously released in a rectangular channel with varying degrees of initial saturation. Non-intrusive laboratory measurement techniques were developed to collect data from experiments at a high spatial and temporal resolution, including flow interfaces and velocity fields. The measured data were used to estimate constitutive model parameters. Experimental results show that the selection of the constitutive relationship …
Image Analysis Of Colloidal Systems For Pair And Triplet Correlations., Brianna Price
Image Analysis Of Colloidal Systems For Pair And Triplet Correlations., Brianna Price
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Interactions among colloidal particles drive stability of suspensions or the assembly of particles into larger superstructures such as agglomerates or crystals. Typically, colloidal interactions are modeled using pairwise interaction potential energies which consider the interactions between pairs of particles. However, additional particles can modulate pair potentials, leading models to predict incorrect behavior. To analyze the effects of three-body interactions on the structuring of colloidal systems, pair and triplet correlation functions are calculated from published experimental data. These correlation functions are then translated into empirical pair and triplet potentials of mean force, which are then used to model systems more accurately …
Reframing Hegemonic And Fragmented Identities Through Subjective In-Betweenness: A Postcolonial Political Theology Of Care And Praxis In Ethiopia’S Era Of Identity Politics, Rode Shewaye Molla
Reframing Hegemonic And Fragmented Identities Through Subjective In-Betweenness: A Postcolonial Political Theology Of Care And Praxis In Ethiopia’S Era Of Identity Politics, Rode Shewaye Molla
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Modern Ethiopian imperial religious and political evangelization generated and imposed externally-defined hegemonic fictive identities on all Ethiopians. This fictive identity (based on Amhara) contributes to current identity politics that cause ethnic violence, political instability, war, identity fragmentation, and, most of all, the elimination of in-between spaces where boundaries of identity can be crossed for peaceful co-existence. This dissertation integrates the study of Ethiopian religion and politics to advocate the restoration of in-between spaces and in-between subjectivities of Ethiopians. In-between spaces include political, social, religious, and geographical spaces that enable Ethiopians to live as a diversified community with solidarity, equity, care, …
