This thesis, submitted to Xavier University in partial fulfillment of requirements for a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education in 1933, examines the causes, history, and proposed remedies of economic depressions, with particular attention to the Great Depression of the early 1930s. Millet surveys the history of financial panics and depressions from the eighteenth century through 1929, distinguishing among the terms "crisis," "panic," and "depression" as used in economic literature, and reviewing recurring patterns across historical episodes in the United States, England, and other countries.
Proposed causes of depressions are examined next, including excessive optimism, speculation, overproduction, and war debts, …

This thesis, submitted to Xavier University in 1933, surveys the chemical classification of proteins and their role in human nutrition, with the stated aim of preparing home economics students to understand protein's function in the diet. Jones organizes proteins into three major classes: simple proteins, including albumins, globulins, glutelins, protamins, and histones; conjugated proteins, including nucleo-proteins, glyco-proteins, phospho-proteins, and hemoglobins; and derived proteins, including albumoses, peptones, and peptids, describing the chemical composition, solubility properties, and sources of each.

This thesis, submitted to Xavier University in partial fulfillment of requirements for a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1933, presents a biographical and historical study of Isaiah Thornton Montgomery (1847–1924), the founder of Mound Bayou, Mississippi, the most prominent all-Black town in the United States. Drawing on memoirs, newspaper accounts, and the Journal of Negro History, the study traces Montgomery's origins as the son of Benjamin T. Montgomery, an educated slave on the Davis plantation in Mississippi, through his founding of Mound Bayou in 1887 on a 30,000-acre land grant secured from the Louisville, New Orleans, and Texas Railway. This thesis, submitted to Xavier University in partial fulfillment of requirements for a Bachelor of Arts in Education degree in 1932, examines the relative importance of heredity and environment in shaping human development across the life course. Drawing on educational psychology literature by Starch, Thorndike, Averial, James, Horne, and Dom Thomas Verner Moore, the thesis surveys competing theoretical positions on whether inherited traits or external conditions constitute the greater force in determining individual character, intelligence, and social behavior. This thesis, submitted to the faculty of Xavier University in partial fulfillment of requirements for a bachelor's degree in 1933, documents the working and economic conditions of Black citizens in New Orleans, Louisiana during the Great Depression. The study presents occupational wage data across trades including bricklaying, carpentry, plumbing, and electrical work, as well as domestic service, professional fields, and the insurance industry. Unemployment relief statistics for the Black population of Louisiana are documented, including data on the number of workers receiving relief and average relief payments as of February 1933. During the spring and summer of 1931 there occurred in south-central South Dakota and northeastern Nebraska the most serious grasshopper outbreak recorded in the United States since the days of the Rocky Mountain locust. The almost complete destruction of all cultivated crops over an area of thousands of square miles in extent, ranks this outbreak as one of the most serious insect plagues which has ever confronted the farmers of the West.
