The Effect Of Fertilizer Applications On The Quality And The Quantity Of The Oil In Flaxseed, Clarence O. Stockland
The Effect Of Fertilizer Applications On The Quality And The Quantity Of The Oil In Flaxseed, Clarence O. Stockland
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
A considerable number of economic seeds are characterized by the presence of oil instead of starch as reserved material. The flax plant produces an oil-bearing seed which yields either by pressure or by extraction an oil which is used chiefly in the manufacture of paints and varnishes, and in the manufacture of linoleum, oil cloth, printer's ink, and patent leather. The oil obtained from flexseed is known as linseed oil and is one of a class of fatty oils known as drying oil. When exposed to the air the oil absorbs oxygen, forming a compound known ad linoxyn which constitutes …

The Influence Of Feed And Sunshine On The Vitamin D Content Of Cow’S Milk, Ben L. Robinson
The Influence Of Feed And Sunshine On The Vitamin D Content Of Cow’S Milk, Ben L. Robinson
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
For the past several years there has been a growing tendency among dairymen, particularity those located near the large cities, to keep their cows in the barn much of the time. Under such a system of management the cows receive but little direct sunshine. In some localities it is also possible to find many cows which are fed the year around on dry feed receiving very little, if any, green food, either as soiling crops or as pasture. From many standpoints such practices are, of course, necessary and desirable, but from the standpoint of the nutritional value of the milk …
The Latex System In The Root Of Taraxacum Officinale, Eleanor Kelton Evenson
The Latex System In The Root Of Taraxacum Officinale, Eleanor Kelton Evenson
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
In 1930 Mr. Emil Madsen of this laboratory began some experimental work upon the roots of dandelions, for the purpose of determining the means by which a dandelion root, which has been cut off below the surface of the ground, regenerates new shoots. He found that such roots form adventitious buds in exposed pericycle and secondary phloem. Several such buds may be formed in a single root. They grow and appear above the ground as leafy shoot.
The Effects Of Temperature And Pressure Variation On The Process Of Cooking Foods, Benjamin M. Aldrich
The Effects Of Temperature And Pressure Variation On The Process Of Cooking Foods, Benjamin M. Aldrich
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
It is generally known that water has a definite boiling temperature for each pressure to which its surface is subjected and that wet steam generated in a closed vessel maintains a definite temperature-pressure relation. Under each condition of temperature and pressure the steam contains a fixed amount of available energy stored as heat and called, "Heat Content" the value of which is usually based upon an arbitrary zero fixed a 32 degrees F., the freezing temperature of water under one atmosphere of pressure.
Reliability And Adequacy Of South Dakota Farm Price Data, John Muehlbeier
Reliability And Adequacy Of South Dakota Farm Price Data, John Muehlbeier
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The reliability and adequacy of South Dakota farm price data cannot be stated with any great degree of precision. The statistical measures of reliability in this analysis are based upon the conditions of simple sampling of which the conclusions cannot be stated in absolute terms but must be expressed in probability. The sampling as done by the Division of Crop and Livestock Estimates is known as weighted stratified sampling, a departure from simple sampling, but considered to result in greater representativeness. Recognizing the limitations of the measures in this study, certain conclusions can still be drawn concerning the reliability of …

Electronic Theses and Dissertations
During the past few years South Dakota and neighboring states have been confronted with serious outbreaks of locusts. Whole crops of small grain and corn have been destroyed by the voracious insect hordes which at times left only bare ground where once had stood waving fields of grain. Chief among the aggressors have been the two species, Melanoplus differentialis (Thomas), the Differential Locust, and Melanoplus bivittatus (Say), the Two-Striped Locust. The contents of this paper include studies of these two species.
