This study was made to determine the effect of the body’s diurnal temperature variation upon accuracy in performing specific motor skills. The study involved the establishment of a basic temperature curve after which the subject was tested through a series of accuracy tests devised by the author. The subject for this study, for reasons of convenience, was the author. Use of such a small sample, however, is a limitation of the study. The subject was in good health and reasonably sound physical condition.

The problem of selenium poisoning has been extensively reviewed. Although a considerable amount of work has been done on this problem, the mechanism of the toxic action of selenium is not understood. This work has undertaken as part of an effort to determine the nature of the protective effect of certain substances against selenium poisoning, in that this might aid in understanding its toxic action. The conflicting findings concerning the effectiveness of methionine against selenium poisoning were obtained with a variety of diets and under a variety of other experimental conditions. The occurrence of a great number of poultry diseases which affect the respiratory systems of both chickens and turkeys has brought about extensive studies on control measures to curb losses due to these infections. The losses due to these infections are tremendous throughout the poultry producing areas of the world. Infectious laryngotracheitis, Newcastle disease, fowl pox, infectious bronchitis, chronic respiratory disease, infectious sinusitis, fowl cholera and aspergillosis cause similar symptoms and gross lesions (19). Diagnosis and preventive treatment are of extreme importance. Fowl cholera and aspergillosis can be detected by cultural techniques. The other six diseases show differential diagnosis with …

The induction of diploid true-breeding mutants by colchicine treatment of a true-breeding variety of sorghum vulgare Pers. Has been reported by Franzke and Ross (9); Ross, Franzke and Schuh (22); and others (7,10). It has been suggested that such mutant plants might result from point mutations made homozygous by a somatic reduction of the chromosomes followed by a doubling of the chromosome number in a cell which organized a growing point after the original one had been inactivated during c-tumor formation. The number of students receiving their Masters Degree in Education has greatly increased since the first one was granted in 1930. A sampling of some of the years revealed that one student received his Masters Degree in 1948, two in 1949 and five in 1951. In 1955 the number of graduates had risen to nine. The writer in this problem is attempting to establish the relationship of scholastic achievement to regularity of attendance and participation in extra-curricular activities. The Brookings, South Dakota High School senior class of 1955 was selected for this study. Because extra-curricular participation is important, more study should be spent on this phase of education to improve the quality of extra-curricular activities and to encourage more pupil participation. Also, this problem may help establish the importance of regular daily attendance in our public schools and show that those who were in regular attendance attained greater achievement in their school work.

Because quality directly affects both price and consumption, one of the basic problems facing the butter industry in South Dakota is quality improvement. Under the price support program, certain minimum quality standards have to be complied with before surplus butter can be sold to the government. One-fourth of the butter produced in South Dakota does not meet this minimum quality requirement, assuming that conditions have not changed since 1951-52. Marketing and processing cream plays an important part in quality. The small producer is at a disadvantage in that he usually does not have the facilities to handle his cream properly. …
