During the 1959 state legislative season a bill sponsored by the Department of Game, Fish and Parks to place the mourning dove on the game bird list was passed by the House and defeated by the Senate. In a special dove issue of Outdoor California, January 1959, W.K. Kiel (9) stated there are currently 30 states which allow dove hunting. No state bordering South Dakota has an open dove season. The purpose of this thesis is to design an efficient sample of families in Brookings which can be used in analyzing the consumption pattern of the families in this city. The particular design which will be recommended is one which may be applied to other cities such as Madison, Watertown, and Aberdeen. The design will provide for a probability sample with a predetermined probability of selection of the individual family. The financial loss incurred by the condemnation of beef livers abscessed with Sphaerophorus necrophorus, has been described in many reports previous to this. Having conferred with several meat packers and by reference to certain journal articles it became apparent that there was no readily available method of diagnosing, by serological methods, beef liver abscesses resulting from infection with S. necrophorus. The serological method employed is the complement-fixation reaction. The purpose of this study was to determine the changes in body fat as computed from the skinfold measurement of college track and field athletes of South Dakota State College during a season of competition and training. The effect of track conditioning on gain or loss of weight as also examined. A total of 23 track and field athletes participated in the study, and were tested five times between January and May of 1959. It is the purpose of this study to compare the morphologic, chemical, and physical properties of five Sinai profiles—two from Day County and one from each of the following counties: Brookings, Kingsbury, and Minnehaha; to compare climatic conditions of these areas; to compare Sinai soil associates of these areas; and to make a recommendation as to the classification of these soils. Introduction: Man’s agricultural activities in South Dakota have greatly altered environmental conditions for nearly all forms of wildlife. Draining and ditching in eastern South Dakota have decreased the acreage of wetlands available to waterfowl and furbearers. Results of conversation practices carried out under the Agricultural Conservation Program as reported by the U. S. Department of Agriculture (1) show that between 1936 and 1937 South Dakota farmers had drained 760,198 acres. Drainage of wetland areas changed once valuable wildlife habitat into drylands which are of little value to waterfowl and furbearers.
