Leptospirosis is not a single disease but a group of diseases caused by a variety of leptospiral serotypes. Investigations during the past seventy years have shown that leptospirosis occurs in humans and animals in all areas of the world. Serological diagnostic procedures have been the principle means of identifying leptospirosis in humans and domestic animals. The agglutination test is a valuable diagnostic procedure for the identification of infections, such as leptospirosis, when it is not practical to isolate the causative organism from suspected cases. The induction of true-breeding diploid mutants in certain varieties of Sorghum Vulgare Pers. by application of 0.5 per cent colchicine in lanolin to the coleoptile of the seedlings has been previously reported. Both cytological and genetical evidences obtained by various investigators have indicated the occurrence of gene mutations previous to or concurrent with the reduction division. The repeated occurrence of mutants with identical phenotypes involving whole complexes of characters raises the problem of whether identical major chromatin rearrangements or identical mutagenic effects are responsible. Before quantum mechanics was developed, the theory of chemical bonding was generally discussed only qualitatively. Since then, however, several theories based on quantitative studies have been advanced. Even the use of quantum mechanics makes it possible to get exact results for only the simplest problems. Nevertheless quantitative results can be obtained for the n-boby problem by using approximation methods. The use of group theory in chemical bonding, first proposed by Bethe, simplified the problem a great deal. The speed of an athlete has always been of great importance to the athletic coach and suggested methods of improving speed have resulted in many studies in research. In 1957, Meisel found that even though an 18 session progressive resistance program did increase leg strength, it significantly reduced the free running speed. The purpose of this study is to explain and demonstrate how linear programming can be applied to faculty evaluation and how this approach cane be interpreted mathematically. A survey of guidance library facilities in South Dakota high schools was conducted. The basic purpose of the survey was to learn what occupational library facilities are found in South Dakota high schools. Due to limited funds and lack of personnel in very small high schools, survey results were limited to high schools with enrollments between 100 and 500, leading to a total of 99 such high schools. Since the first kinetic study of a Diels-Alder reaction in 1933, numerous kinetic investigations of the reaction have been reported. In the 1950s, a particular interest has been shown in the kinetic studies of the Diels-Alder reaction employing anthracene and its derivatives. Independently, it has been repeatedly demonstrated that auto-oxidation and dimerization will occur under a variety of conditions in the photochemical reactions of these compounds. Unfortunately, the majority of kinetic studies involving anthracene and its derivatives have not taken into account these possible side reactions. Many growth regulators for obtaining various effects with plants have proven to be quite useful in industry, for weed control, and in investigations into the biochemical and physiological studies of plants. Went (1928) established the oat coleoptile curvature as a bio-assay test for growth regulators. Field studies of 140 F2 lines derived from colchicine treated plants of the maize single cross SD5 x SD7 were made to establish the possibility of duplicating the production of true-breeding homozygous variants as reported for sorghum. These 140 lines were compared with 60 nontreated F2 lines out of the same cross. The results obtained did not indicate differences between the treated and untreated material, either as entire classes or as individual lines, for these six phenotypic measurements: plant height, ear height, stalk diameter, ear length, ear diameter, and ear weight. Nor were differences in variability within individual treated progenies, …

This thesis presents a project in the design and study of a voltage regulator for generators on an AC network computer. The entire unit consists of two main parts: the part with sensing and amplifying circuits and the part with power drive devices. In the sensing and amplifying circuits, tubes such as 5651, 12AX7, and 12AU7 are used. Thermoelectricity is the direct conversion of heat energy to electrical energy, or vice versa. Conventional electrical generating systems convert heat energy by one or more intermediate processes to mechanical energy, which in turn is used to drive a generator. Each intermediate process has an associated energy loss or inefficiency which accumulates until the over-all conversion efficiency may range from less than 1 per cent to about 40 per cent depending on the system used and the amount of energy produced (9)*. Although this represents less than five percent of the source of South Dakota cash farm income, it still is a sizeable industry. The several varieties of wild turkey (Meleagris gallopavo) formerly ranged over much of what is now eastern, central and southwestern United States. A large portion of the species habitat was destroyed by logging and by clearing forest land for agricultural use.
