A rather dramatic change has occurred in the consumption of butter in the United States. Butter consumption per person for the years since World War II has been only about half of what it was during the years between World War I and World War II, but since that time consumption has remained at the lower level. The question arises as to whether there has been a basic change in consumer responses to butter prices. The main purpose of this study is to analyze the magnetic forces developed in a transformer using aluminum strip conductor when subjected to a fault at its output terminals. This would be the most severe fault situation possible. Very closely related to this problem is the considered of current distribution and losses in this type of conductor. Whenever current-carrying conductors are located in magnetic fields, forces will be developed which tend to cause movement of the conductors. These forces usually are negligible under normal rated conditions but become most severe under extreme “Short-circuit” conditions. At the present time, this author …
Oligosaccharides In Citrus Molasses: Their Isolation, Characterization And Determination Of The Monosaccharide Constituents, Jyh-Fa Kuo

In this work, an intensive study of oligosaccharides (other than sucrose) present in citrus molasses, emphasizing isolation, characterization and determination of constituent monosaccharides has been carried out. Oligosaccharides I-V were isolated by paper chromatography from the 15 percent and 30 percent ethyl alcohol eluates of citrus molasses separated by a charcoal column. The yields were approximately 0.30, 0.20, 0.30, 0.14, and 0.40 percent respectively. The homogeneity of each of the isolated oligosaccharides was confirmed with three solvent systems; n-butyl alcohol:pyridine:water, acetone:n-butyl alcohol:water and n-butyl alcohol:acetic acid:water.

There is a present need to use our facilities for higher education with efficiency. More selective and efficient criteria are needed on which to base admissions to college. For several years, the American Council on Education Psychological Examination (A.C.E.) and High School Rank have been used as admission criteria at South Dakota State College. Though these two admission indices have been sued for a number of years, no precise standards have been set, based on the larger schools. The knowledge of genetic parameters of any population is essential so selection of livestock can bring about maximum improvement and consequently increase the profits of the producers, the processor, and supply a product that appeals to the consumer. This study is concerned with the determination of: 1) the heritability estimates of production traits, carcass characteristics, live animal measurements, and subjective scores of the live animal; 2) the genetic, environmental and phenotypic correlations of production and carcass traits with measurements and scores; and 3) the value of measurements and scores of the live animal for estimating carcass merit. Toxaphene as a piscicide for localized field application has not been widely used because minimum lethal concentrations have not been in the field. There is, however, considerable information gained from laboratory bio-assay studies (Surber, 1498; Duedoreff, et al. 1953; Hooper and Grzenda, 1955, et al. 1959). Concentrations indicated by such studies are not necessarily correct for field use. Prevost (1960) pointed out that results from controlled laboratory experiments do not always yield dosages exhibiting similar results in the field where a number of variables, both known and unknown, exist over which the field worker has little or no control. It is quite evident that much is yet to be learned concerning the helminth parasites of wild mammals. Not only can new host and new distribution records be obtained from nearly every area where studies are conducted, but new species are also often found. No extensive investigation of helminth parasites of wild mammals in the region has ever been undertaken as far as is known by this author. Diploid mutant shoots having the characteristics of inbreds have arisen from colchicine-tumors induced on highly inbred varieties of Sorgum vulgare Pers. To produce C-tumors, colchicine-in-lanolin was applied to the coleoptiles just emerging from the seed coat during germination. If the occurrence of somatic reduction were preceded by mutation and followed by restoration to the diploid number, a resulting homozygous, diploid mutant cell in an advantageous position, competitively and/or spatially, could assume leadership in the apex of the growing point of the shoot. Criticisms of the mass media are manifold. One that concerns this investigator is the criticism leveled against the quantity and quality of their content. These criticisms fall into the following general areas: (1) overemphasis on entertaining rather than on informing, (2) sensationalism rather than effective popularization, (3) insufficient interpretation and reluctance to exercise the opinion function, (4) lack of both quantity and quality in media content in smaller communities, and (5) bad taste and lack of social purpose in advertising, a criticism frequently extended to charges of cynical manipulation of consumer thought. The aim of this thesis is to investigate the nature of the electromagnetic wave transmitted from a loop antenna enclosed by a spherical insulating cavity which is immersed in a conducting medium. The nature of the electromagnetic wave in a conducting medium generated by a loop antenna has been studied. Based on the formulas derived, a low frequency wave suffers less attenuation than a high frequency wave. This effect is very noticeable when the conductivity of the medium is high, such as with sea water. AT low frequencies the power radiation is small compared with the power supplied to the …

More specifically, it reports on the static load-carrying capabilities of this type joint.
