The major purpose of this study was to determine the effects of a season of basketball on the leg strength and explosive power on a select group of players at South Dakota State College. Participants in this study were members of the freshman and varsity squads at South Dakota State College during the 1961-1962 college year. Tests to measure strength and explosive power were administered at the beginning, twice during, and at the end of the 1961-1962 season. In the electrical engineering problem such as determination of capacitance between conductors, the maximum gradient in insulation, the acceleration force on an electron moving in an electronic apparatus, a complete knowledge of the electrostatic field is always necessary for further analysis. The electrostatic field, characterized by a vector quantity called field strength at any point, is caused and determined by electric charge distribution. This study investigated the changes in adult physical fitness resulting from a self-administered battery of selected isometric contraction, isotonic contraction, and breath-holding exercises. The subjects were adult men from the Brookings Junior Chamber of Commerce and South Dakota State College faculty. Twenty-six subjects were administered the initial test, and 14 completed the program. Of the 12 drop-outs, seven were excuses for various reasons. The subjects trained for a period of 10 weeks, six days each week, and a selected battery of isometric contraction, isotonic contraction, and breath-holding exercises. A study was initiated at South Dakota State College by Professor Emil R Hargett to determine the feasibility of the use of precast and pre-stressed concrete panels for highway and airport pavements. Professor Hargett proposed that the production of precast and pre-stressed panel sections in a centrally located casting yard for post=tensioning at the job site. It was further proposed that the panel sections to be post-tensioned in “pull up” spans of about 100 feet; but extending as a continuous post-tensioned pavement. The majority of the past work done on the microflora of the chicken intestine has been concerned with growth response of the chicken to changes in the flora. A large number of experiments have been conducted during the past several years to study the response of beef cattle to different amounts of protein in the ration. The recent interest in high-concentrate rations and the common usage of a number of feed additives warrants a re-evaluation of the nutrient requirements of fattening cattle, especially protein, for these systems of feeding. The basic purpose of this study was to determine the effect of wearing or of not wearing glasses on the balance of bespectacled athletes. This study was accomplished by selecting three previously validated tests of balance and by administering them to 27 bespectacled varsity and freshman athletes. These tests were administered during one testing period. The subjects took each test with glasses, immediately after the removal of glasses, and again without glasses after an eye adjustment period. Bulk handling of milk is a recent development in milk transportation. It is important to know the current cost data of transporting bulk milk. Cost structure is the important supply factor in determining hauling rates. Distance and volume are two important factors, but more detailed data are required to better determine the actual costs. Four experiments were established in1961 with three varieties of oats and eight fertilizer treatments. The four experiments involved two planting dates and two locations. The influence of varying rates of applied nitrogen and phosphorus on the yield of oats; nitrogen content of the grain; and amino acid content of the protein were studied. The effect of fertilizer treatments on the yield of oats was different for each seeding date and each location. This research project was conducted to study the effects of nitrate, added to the rations as sodium nitrate, on feedlot performance and vitamin A status of fattening cattle. Two levels of protein were used to determine if protein level influenced the effects of nitrate or the need for supplemental vitamin A. In addition, the experiment was designed to determine the value of vitamin A and protein supplement when fed with a high concentrate ration consisting of ground shelled corn and alfalfa hay. This investigation was undertaken for the purpose of obtaining more information about the breakdown processes of perfluorocarbon gases under electrical stress. Corona characteristics were obtained for the CF4 and C3F8 gases over a considerable period of time in the presence of additives. The substances used for additives were those for which there was existing evidence that they could function as corona inhibitors. Thus, additives showing an ability to act as inhibitors of free radical reactions were chose, since the decomposition reactions could produce free radical fragments. The purpose of this study was to “provide a record of the theatrical activities” in Brookings, South Dakota from 1879 through 1898. To achieve this end, the writer attempted to present a historical frame of reference which would serve as a “backdrop” for the theatrical scenes and community scenarios. The town of Brookings was founded in 1879 by William Skinner and leading citizens of Fountain, Dakota. B rooking’s First Opera House was constructed in 1884. Two major types of flow exist for any short culvert: 1) flow with outlet control and 2) flow with inlet control. Under outlet control, the elevation of the tailwater in the outlet channel and the slope, roughness, and length of culvert are of primary importance. Inlet control involves the cross-sectional area of the culvert, the inlet geometry, and the amount of headwater at the entrance.
