One of the major factors influencing the nutritional value of grass is stage of maturity. The relationship of lignification to maturity and plant digestibility has been studied extensively. One of the purpose of this study was to determine the effect of stage of maturity on hemicellulose content of western wheatgrass and further the content of its component sugars. According to a survey made by M.G Poole and associates, port Angeles School District #21 serves a population of about 19,100 people. The core of this district is Port Angeles, a city of 15,000 people, which has one senior high school and two junior high schools. This area is primarily industrial in nature, heavily dependent on timber resources. The second strongest area of employment is in the tourist industry. In 1962 survey by M.G. Poole and associates, the writer found that 79.06 percent of the people in the school district own their own homes and that 70 percent of the …

Consumer acceptance of beef and Federal beef grades are dependent to a large extent upon color. There may or may not be a scientific basis for this. It has not been definitely shown that color =, in itself, has any effect on the palatability of meat, yet color is used as an indicator of beef quality. Meat pigment is composed largely of the chromo proteins myoglobin and hemoglobin. Factors other than the amount of pigment presents in beef muscle may influence its color. There is an increasing trend towards the concentration of poultry populations. With the increased popularity of confinement housing and the purchasing of the feed, less land is needed to raise and keep poultry. A serious problem arising from this change is that manure disposal is becoming increasingly difficult for owners of large poultry flocks. Lagoons have been used as a means of poultry waste disposal. This method of manure treatment is not new. Native pastures are not as profitable as improved pastures which are adapted to this area. The purpose of this study is to compare net returns that can be realized by farmers in eastern South Dakota when improved rather than un-improved pastures as well as native grass. The problem is one of determing the profitability, form the whole farm standpoint, of using various improved pastures for grazing yearling beef steers compared with the profitability of using unimproved pasture. These turbulent fluctuations are encountered in the wakes of objects in flight such as aircraft, airfoils, missiles and moving automobiles. To begin with, manty people use the word turbulence in a very general manner, to describe either a very simple unsteady motion or a very complicated vortex motion. Turbulence may be classified as either isotropic or non-isotropic. One of the best experimental techniques for studying turbulent flow involves the use of the hot-wire anemometer. Three species of Diabrotica, the western corn rootworm, D. Virgifera, Lec; the northern corn rootworm, D. longicornis, (say); and the southern corn rootworm, D. undecimpuenctata howardi, Barber; are generally abundant during the summer months in corn fields in various areas throughout the Midwest. Field observations indicate that these insects apparently have preferred feeding sites on host plants. In corn fields they frequently congregate and feed on the silks and tassels. As the corn reached maturity, the Diabrotica beetles feed extensively on the more succulent parts of the remaining silks. Some feeding also occurs on weeds and other plants within the …

The procedure followed consisted of viewing South Dakota State University football game films dating from 1958 to 1963. Evaluation checklists were used to determine which plays would be included in the training film.
